Mueller investigation

Wasn't Flynn the guy who began repeating the "lock her up" chant against Hillary?

How's that working out?

He's not being locked up. Fucking Mueller!!! You had one job! I will never forgive him for taking this from me.

But he probably gave some real good shit on the Trump crime syndicate. :slowclap:

Flipping should be illegal!

Generals get their positions through politics.

Flynn is just your typical politician.

He doesn't care if he is spewing total nonsense when he says "Lock her up!"

He only knows it is red meat that gets some Americans very excited.

White collar crime is inherently more time-consuming to investigate, and these are a large number of crimes we're talking about here.

True, but at the time he was leading crowds in chants of "lock her up!" he knew he himself was guilty of serious crimes.

Another investigator stepped down. Could this mean the investigation is winding down? Is it just normal turnover?

Maddow reminds us that this criminal investigation started out as a counter-espionage investigation. That's not normally how "witch hunts" start.

Flynn would never have been leading a crowd chant, "Lock her up!" if he had not been emulating Der Trumpster's approach to politics for Der Trumpster. So he escapes jail time, but his flipping to save his own scurvy hide will help take Der Trumpster down. Flynn on the other hand now has a pretty dead career for his trouble. And a pile of legal bills. Life choices he probably now regrets bitterly. You can bet Flynn wishes he had never set eyes on Trump now. The curse of Trump.

Yes. A shameless scumbag.

Like a lot of generals.

Generals get too much respect. Many are complete scumbags.

Like Colin Powell and his pack of lies at the UN. That was not to persuade the UN which knew better but to persuade ignorant Americans.

Many who still believe it was all true and the reason the US attacked Iraq.

He's not being locked up.

He likely was not going to be locked up no matter what (i.e., presidential pardon). This way, Mueller effectively granted him something better than a pardon, as pardons take time to process and Trump wouldn't be so stupid as to pardon anyone until and unless Trump personally gets into trouble.

Flipping should be illegal!

It can be a very useful and effective tool to get the really bad guys.

You don't have to tell me that top Pentagon officers are political scumbags. My father was a career military officer and as a child I heard him complain about that endlessly at the dinner table.

However, most generals don't commit treason, act as a foreign agent/asset illegally, then lead crowds in chants of "lock her up!" about a politician he probably knew to be innocent of criminal wrongdoing. Flynn is on a whole other level. Colin Powell was just a sniveling boot-licker who would tell any lie and sleaze on anything if someone above him ordered him to do it (my father complained about him when it came to that long before the general population became aware of his name), but he didn't work for the Russians, then act like Hitler at a Nazi rally.

False. White supremacism has flourished under Trump. Authoritarianism has flourished under Trump. Excuses for treason have flourished under Trump. Lots of things grow rather than die under Trump's influence, and the things that blossom under Trump explains why he is so popular with conservolibertarian voters.

Well it's not like Trump ever touches anything that he can't suck some life out of. These things too, shall die. White supremacism, Authoritarianism, Excuses for treason ... all headed for the dustbin of American history.

When there is real power to be gained you get the most able and the biggest scumbags competing for it.

The most able do not always win.

There are decent generals, but you won't find such in the Pentagon. The ones you have to watch out for in the Pentagon aren't the ones sucking up to politicians, but the ones sucking up to contractors in hopes of landing a cushy job after retirement.

Mueller effectively granted him something better than a pardon

I think the thing Mueller granted Flynn in exchange for cooperation was going easy on Flynn Jr..

Flynn got his son involved in treasonous activities, thus encouraging his son to commit felonies.

Father of the year, eh?

But if he's willing to sell his nation up the river, we shouldn't be surprised to find out he was willing to seriously risk his son as well.

Did he honestly think he was going to get away with it?

https://www.salon.com/2018/12/05/it...flynns-collaboration-with-mueller-will-prove/

There were two big questions on Tuesday night following the release of the Flynn sentencing memo by Special Counsel Robert Mueller. The first, and most puzzling for many analysts looking at the memo, was why Flynn had lied to the FBI on January 24th of last year when he was questioned about his contacts with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak. The thinking went, gee, as the former Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, Flynn had to have known that the National Security Agency would have been listening in on any calls made by the Russian ambassador, and the FBI had to have seen those intercepts. Why would Flynn lie?

Well, YEAH. And why not? He has to counter the offer that Trump has been constantly dangling in front of his co-conspirators. If he can sweeten the deal by making it better than anything Cheato can offer, all the better.

No matter how much you repeat that nonsense, you're not going to get libertarians to vote for your man Trump. He's always been yours and he's always going to be yours.

I did a quick perusal of some conservative boards I read when I'm either constipated or in need of a sudden stomach-evacuation, and not a word about any of this on any of them. Being that this news broke on Friday, I'm wondering if they just decided they're not going to allow discussion of the matter. On the ever toxic Yahoo leavings though, the most bizarre, sad, and frightening excuses are being offered, but those are tempered with posts like "President Trump is greatest president for American freedom not like Hillary Clinton who makes greedy!"

Most of the time the Russian trolls do a pretty good job at impersonating American Trump supporters. The past two days though, it seems like they're letting the newbs get some practice in.

For those who have tuned into it, the reek of the trolls/bots is unmistakeable. A few years ago I would not have noticed, but now, even the most subtle variances in syntax, grammar etc. give me that familiar creeped-out feeling. It is good to have Pootinistas like barbos around to remind us of the scent. His English is quite good, but even so, there are those tells...
