Mueller investigation

Michael Cohen gets 3 years, says Trump's 'dirty deeds' led him to 'choose darkness'

Cohen appeared to get choked up as he pleaded with the judge for mercy. He told Pauley he was taking “full responsibility” for his actions — but laid much of the blame at the feet of the former boss he once said he'd take a bullet for.

“I have been living in a personal and mental incarceration ever since the day that I accepted the offer to work for a real estate mogul whose business acumen that I deeply admired," Cohen told the judge, saying his blind loyalty to Trump led him to choose “darkness over light.”

He noted that Trump had blasted him as being weak on Twitter.

“It was correct but for a much different reason than he was implying. It was because time and time again I felt it was my duty to cover up his dirty deeds," Cohen said. "My weakness can be characterized as a blind loyalty to Donald Trump, and I was weak for not having the strength to question and to refuse his demands."

And as Maddow pointed out last night this announcement, immediately after the sentencing was complete:

After the proceeding, the U.S. Attorney's office in New York revealed it had struck a non-prosecution agreement with National Enquirer publisher AMI earlier this year for its $150,000 payout to one of the alleged Trump mistresses, former Playboy model Karen McDougal.

"As a part of the agreement, AMI admitted that it made the $150,000 payment in concert with a candidate’s presidential campaign, and in order to ensure that the woman did not publicize damaging allegations about the candidate before the 2016 presidential election," prosecutors said. "AMI further admitted that its principal purpose in making the payment was to suppress the woman’s story so as to prevent it from influencing the election."

Everyone gets a deal. Seems there's nobody left but the Trump syndicate.

Fox News & Friends: This nothing burger proves Trump is 1000% innocent.

Fox has been focused on battling Dem's overactive political correctness. Not one mention of Cohen's name yesterday, despite the sentencing. Their strategy has been an appeal to emotion that the Dems are going to take your guns, get you fired for listing to Christmas music at work, and regulate speech to the point of removing the first amendment.
The goal being that no matter what the Republicans do, the Dems will do worse, therefore FAKE NEWS! WITCH HUNT!

To be fair, the fact that some lawyer went to prison isn't all that newsworthy just because there are some unconfirmed reports that he might have once run into the President at some function which a large group of people were also attending.

The lawyer did something illegal, but it wasn't Trump's day to watch him. And besides, how should Trump know that covering up hush money payments to a porn star in order to influence an election would be illegal?

Seriously. It's like this dinner party I had the other day when my guests started bitching about the food. My attitude was that if you going to have a problem with cannibalism, bring it up before the appetizer. Don't start whining about whatever weirdo dietary restrictions you have after I've started carving up the entree. Was I just supposed to know that you don't like eating people?

Rude as shit, some folks.

Yeeeeeeeeeah... Remember a while back, when Rudy was shouting about how Trump is the supreme executive of the law enforcement branch, and he gets to decide what is and isn't legal? Suddenly, he's just a legal layman who has to depend on the legal expertise of weak cowards who lie...

get you fired for listing to Christmas music at work

I would support this.
I try not to list at all. My balance is no longer sufficient to correct for it.

I have heard that metacentric height tends to decrease as one gets older.

I'm just so reassured that Trump says he didn't order Cohen to do something illegal. That means Trump is totally in the clear. I mean, Trump wouldn't lie about something like that.

Well, apparently he also told the National Enquirer to hush a different story, also about an affair. And Cohen was not the middle man--it was directly National Enquirer bestie and President Twitler McCrazyPants making the deal.

I don't think it is Trump. The President's schedule is a matter of public record and whether or not he would be subpoenaed and/or testify would likewise be a matter of public record. Going to these extremes would more likely mean it's someone whose life may be in danger for testifying, like a family member or someone who is or was so high up the food chain as to signify something Mueller does not want signified (i.e., whatever the person is supposed to be testifying to could only be known to them and Trump, and therefore if the name got out, Trump would immediately know what the topic was, or the like).

Something along those lines. Maybe Bannon? Or Pence. Maybe that's it? A prominent Senator or the like.

I know nothing about the ins and outs about how these things go down in court, but it does seem a bit extreme to have a hearing with the entire floor of the courthouse (if I recall correctly) being quasi evacuated. We aren't talking the courtroom itself, but the whole FLOOR. So it sounds like something relatively big was going on.

Personally I think it was Trump's hearing where he was pleaing to lesser charges to spill the beans on Jr/Ivanka/Eric, Manafort, his soon to be ex-wife, and the ring leader...

Tiffany Trump.

Pence, then would warrant such actions, but as VP, his schedule would likewise be public. Unless there is some sort of extraordinary circumstances clause.

Pence would imply GOP meltdown which would be devastating to the party. I’d need a lot more info to conclude that.

Could be an extradition hearing to get Don Jr out of Canada. We can ship him down with that Huawei lady you dipshits asked us to pick up for you before changing your minds.

It was reported later that it was a witness that didn't want to testify against Trump and may end up in jail for contempt. It didn't say who it was, though.
