I'm really curious to see how ANY SANE INDIVIDUAL can defend the rhetoric espoused at this rally? How could anyone vote for someone who considers Puerto Ricans 'piles of garbage'? This among so much other disgusting balderdash, it's difficult to even know where to begin.

Trump's pile of garbage on the racist side is fathomless. It goes back to being sued along with daddy for discrimination in rentals, calling for the death penalty for (subsequently exonerated) teenagers, 'No Mexican judge can try my case', lies about New Jersey Muslims on 9-11, "rapists and drug dealers and, I assume, some very fine people", shithole countries, skinheads in Charlottesville being 'very fine people', making 'Sheriff Joe' a hero, the 'Why don't they go back where they came from?'comment on the Squad, Haitians in Ohio blah-blah-blah, and I'm sure I've missed some. And the election is still a coin toss. And the conservos think we're in a post-racist society....
 
I believe that Trump's "Nazi-like", (notice I not say Nazi or Hitler) rally has been discussed on other threads.
Maybe not enough depth, but the criticism of Trump's style and rhetoric is so huge it's hard to contain it in one thread.

Is Trump cratering?
Sure seems like it. The question is, can he do enough damage to himself in the next week to BIGLY lose the election?

There are those who differ -vehemently.
Several people who know more about it than I do are quite sanguine about Kami’s chances. I can’t quite see the ground they stand on, but these last few days have a certain je ne sais quoi about them. A faint reek of putrid desperation coming from the fascists.
I already voted, and would like to tune it all out.

You know the odd thing I was just thinking about was... why the joke at all? I get the joke (Steven Wright style single sentence observation), but it just seems like it was nothing but a bigoted joke that had no other purpose than being bigoted. As in, you laugh because you think Hispanics are trash. It isn't self-deprecating humor, and that joke wouldn't work in a self-deprecating way either. It was bigoted insult.

If your entire schitck is bigotry that targets Latinos, Jews (notice the big 's' anti-Semitism!), and Blacks... and you are signed up to speak at a Trump rally in MSf'ingG., not some local yokel rally in the middle of Alabama, but MSG! One has got to think this was all quite intentional and the MAGA movement is all-in on bigotry and anti-Semitism.

Also, will it be widely reported that he is saying nutty things and claiming exhaustion?? Some of his stories and comments from the fall rallies are not only obscene but delusional. Why are they not more commonly known?

Leading scientists to respond, shut up and legislate. By all accounts Guam is still out there, safely floating in the Pacific. I read they put in anchors to prevent hurricanes from blowing it around. It is unfortunate that not all politicians can be like Merkel when it comes to scientific literacy. Snowballs, space laser, capsizing islands, pandemic response, it is a good reminder than many lawyers aren't scientists because they no good at maths and sciencing.

He was allegedly joking too. Though as his comments didn't needlessly denigrate the native population of the island, it likely wouldn't be recognised as a joke by the MAGA crowd.


ETA: Should have known Derec would be all over this. And would need a two minute video edited for the hard of thinking to illustrate the point, despite the actual quote being a mere nineteen words.

I am so sick of the Republican hand wringing over this - and their faux outrage. They didn't know he would say this? He has literally said the exact same jokes before!! You knew damn well what he would say. You didn't care before. Your outrage is because you realized others disapproved and now you're scrambling to "feel their pain." Fucking Republican shit bags.

At least this guy's career is destroyed. I just hope Vance and Trump are next.
