Norway Preparing for Exodus

If a Norwegian were to emigrate to the US (a very hypothetical case), that would raise the mean IQ of both countries.

Clue:

Lugubert's location is "Sweden".

See? :sadyes:

OSLO, NORWAY -- Norwegian officials have reportedly begun preparing for a population exodus after an overture from the American President for more people from Norway...
Reads like one of those tepid attempts at humour The Onion is known for, but Google can't find this piece anywhere.

I'm just flattered they tried to find a source.

It does seem to be a common quirk with some people that they assume that anything above a certain standard must have been taken from someone else - as though really good writing could not possibly be original.

Where they imagine it comes from I don't know.

It seems to be related to the "If it's in writing, it's more likely to be true" fallacy. As though writing something down were a magical and wondrous activity, not permitted to mere mortals.

Give me a break.

All Trump has to say is "european socialists"

And his supporters will begin foaming at the mouth.

Good point.

Maybe the Dems should remind the Trumpsters that their Dear Leader wants to import socialists :p

"above a certain standard"? In this case it's "of a certain standard", namely tepid attempts at humour The Onion is known for. Yes, "tepid attempts at humour" is a clumsy contraction of what I meant to say, but thinking whoever reads that kludge will get the drift of what I meant I was too lazy to express myself properly.

Sorry, Jimmy. Had I known you were the author I would not have posted. Blastula got it right.

Well, I suppose your tepid attempt to express yourself really makes the whole thread go full circle.

Don't you think a clumsy kludge is rather worse than tepid humour?

Maybe it's related to Platonism?

Good word combinations have an existence independent of sentient minds, and live in an alternate dimension of perfect ideas, where they wait to be "discovered" by sentient minds in our dimension. I'm still not clear how those ideas in the perfect realm know which sentient minds to flitter to. Maybe there is a "good idea faerie" that escorts ideas from the reality in which perfect ideas exist to the correct sentient mind in our reality?

Norway, Sweden, same thing.

Yes, but Norway is traditionally seen as the "most Aryan" by white nationalists alt right free speech advocates identitarians. I'm sure your average Republican would have a very difficult time figuring out if he/she/it loves or hates Norway and Norwegians.
