Rep. Katie Hill Sex Scandal

It's totally tainted by it's association with the Nazis.
I don't see any evidence that Katie Hill intended it as a Nazi symbol. Especially since, as I pointed out, it's not a Nazi symbol at all.

Oh and by the way, modern Luftwaffe uses the curved cross but WWII Luftwaffe used the straight (Balkenkreuz) version.

For it to be used in any context other than the traditional uses is basically a Nazi symbol.
I say if it's innocuous enough to be used as a roundel on contemporary German military planes, it's innocuous enough to be tattooed above a former congresswoman's bush.

For the Germans to use it in it's traditional role doesn't make it Nazi. I'm saying that for others the association is going to be Nazi and thus very few people would use it in any other context.

Derek, you're using facts. That's a bad habit around here. It doesn't matter that it is not a Nazi symbol. All that matters is that someone thinks it is so everyone else must stop using it or be accused of Nazi association.

You are criticizing Loren. a moderate libertarian.:hitsthefan:

So it's suburban areas that are the big battleground. Katie Hill's district was CA-25, a dense suburban one. She won by 9% in a district that does not lean toward either party. So it's up in the air.

The candidates include:
  • D: Christy Smith, CA Assemblywoman endorsed by Katie Hill herself and numerous other politicians
  • D: Cenk Uygur, commentator for The Young Turks
  • R: Steve Knight (was unseated by KH in 2018)
  • R: George Papadopoulos, former Trump advisor

Bernie Sanders retracts endorsement of Cenk Uygur amid reaction to various offensive comments / Twitter
Uygur, who is running for a Congressional spot in California, no longer has Sanders' support in the race. Those frustrated with Uygur's history of sexist and misogynistic comments, along with other controversial remarks, called for Sanders to withdraw his endorsement, which he did on Friday.
Why Cenk Uygur Would Be a WRECKING BALL in Congress | Full Interview - YouTube

CY's biggest issue: corporate campaign contributions, which he calls bribery. He plans to go on the floor of the House and call out members' corruption, like what campaign contributions that they have received.

Nothing on other things that a Congressmember might do, like holding town halls in his district or what committees he might get into. He could offer his experience as a talk-show host as experience in questioning witnesses in hearings. Which makes me think: how did AOC get so good at that?

There is plenty of reasons to dislike Cenk and TYT in general, but the supposedly "sexist and misogynistic" comments are things like ranking women by hotness, which is neither. Besides, it's not like women don't rank men's hotness, but that's acceptable because reasons...
This political correctness thing is getting way out of hand. I respected Bernie in 2016 because he largely stayed out of the identity politics and political correctness morass, but this year he is in it up to his neck.
This is almost as stupid as attacking Katie Hill for an Iron Cross tattoo.

how did AOC get so good at that?
Get a room you two! :)

Yeah, ranking women on hotness is sexist and misogynistic.

Name me female politicians who rank men on hotness. That's also sexist and misandrist and no more acceptable than the ranking of women.

It is neither.

He wasn't a politician when he did that. This is like attacking Al Franken for joking around while a comedian.

Sure, not exactly senatorial behavior, but he wasn't a senator then.

And if a female politician or a political candidate WAS ranking guys on hotness, I would not think it sexist or misandrist.

Right but Al Franken is not a woman ranking men on hotness.

It is clearly sexist.
Explain why.

Well, first of all, hetersexual men ranking women's hotness is sexist because they wouldn't also rank men's hotness. It's misogynist because being attracted to and celebrating women's beauty is only done by people who hate women.

Now, women ranking men by hotness, or anyone ranking men's hotness, isn't sexist, because no woman has any formal or informal power, and sexism = prejudice + power. Men ranking men's hotness isn't sexist either, because men, who hold all the power, can't be victims of themselves.

And yes, you've got the conclusion right: it also means all nonbisexual men are sexists and misogynists, because there are actions heterosexual men would take (sleeping with women) that they wouldn't consider doing with men. Gay men also are misogynists, because by fucking other men, they are entrenching men's power structure and denying to women something they would give to men. Women of any sexual orientation are not guilty of anything, because no woman has any formal or informal power.

Obviously, nobody from the Esquire Magazine editorial board need run for Democratic nomination ever again.

“Hotness” and “beauty” are not the same. “Hotness” implies erotic intentions.
And "erotic intentions" are obviously evil? Modern-day PC, identity politics Left is as bad as the religious Right. Except it's Baby Marx that sexy women make cry, not Baby Jesus ...

laughing dog, you know this to be a distinction without a difference.
Wow, you really cannot tell the difference between "hotness" and "beauty"?
If a male politician were instead ranking women on 'beauty' rather than 'hotness', do you think the people who objected to hotness rankings would not also object to beauty rankings? Come on.
I don't know - and neither do you.

WTF are you babbling about?

WTF are you babbling about?
I was responding to your babbling about how viewing certain women as "hot" or "sexy" is unacceptable because it's more than just platonic beauty.
You still have not explained why it's supposed to be "sexist" though.
