Republicans 2020

Wrong again as usual.....................I'm no one's lackey, but widely read and I don't like what I see on the left side of politics. If I had to choose anyone from the left side it would only be Bloomberg.

Thank you, I needed that laugh today.

This ought to blow your top. Careful you don't get a heart attack, if you dare read this.......................................

Absolute bullshit.

I am certain that pResident tRump will go down in history as one of the worst Presidents ever, if not the absolute worst.

Worse than Jimmy Carter? I very much doubt it!

Jimmy Carter I don't consider a very great President. But he was not nearly as horrible as Donald Trump is.

I don't know much about Jimmy Carter's presidency. That was before I was paying attention to US politics. But from what I've read and heard, I got the impression that he was just sort of there; and uneventful president with little for good or ill to remember him for. Is that correct?

I don't remember much, but do remember something about him selling his family farm so there would be no conflict of interest with the presidency. He had to deal with high inflation and gas shortages. He wanted to get us off dependence on middle eastern oil, and put solar panels on the White House (reagan took them down) He probably would have gotten a second term, but then the Iranians overthrew their western imposed dictator, and took Americans hostage. There was an attempted military mission to rescue them, but it failed. That pretty much became the last word on how he was in office.

What was wrong with Carter?
What about Grant?

Jimmy from what I have read, refused to play politics - what will you give me if I give you that? He only did things that were what he thought was right for the country and refused to negotiate give and take with the left. Consequently, he accomplished little. IMO

Carter was well meaning but generally ineffective. He also was dedicated to trying to end war, to the point where there were two teams of diplomats who wouldn't even be in the same room with each other so he carried messages between the room. That was brilliant.

He has a far worse reputation than he deserves, and there are far worse presidents than Carter.

“Morning Joe” hosts Joe Scarborough and Mike Brezinski kicked off Friday morning with bad news for Donald Trump about recent polling in the battleground Rust Belt states showing his re-election prospects crumbling even if he does survive impeachment ouster.
“You go through new Morning Consult Trump approval ratings, and it really shows how unpopular he is,” host Scarborough began. “And in some of these states they show how impeachment is really either keeping him from gaining momentum with all the money he’s wasting and it’s not moving anything.”

“Ohio, he’s minus five,” he explained. “Pennsylvania, minus seven, underwater. Iowa underwater, minus 13. Minnesota, underwater, minus 13. And the biggest two for last: Wisconsin, minus 14 and Michigan minus 14.”

----

It is looking grim for der Trumpster 11 months before election day. The electoral votes for these states is a total of 80 votes. Trump leads in Texas by only 3% and Florida by 1%

I saw that on "Morning Joe" too. Let's hope it lasts. I'm somewhat optimistic about Georgia. Stacey A is working hard to get more voters registered. After the last debate, she was able to get a large number of volunteers to help notify the 300K voters that Kemp is planning on kicking off he rolls for lack of participation in recent elections. If we could just get more younger voters as well as apathetic people who never vote, to realize that the vote is the only thing we all have that enables us to directly participate in government.

Morning Consult

Georgia -3% approval rating. Trump barley won a majority in 2016 there. 50.4%
However Green Party and Libertarian votes helped sink Clinton.

Insert maniacal Side Show Bob style laugh here.

Mark Sanford Drops Trump Primary Challenge: ‘You’ve Got to Be a Realist’ - The New York Times - "Mr. Sanford, a former congressman and governor of South Carolina, ended his presidential campaign just two months after it began."

Joe Walsh and Bill Weld are still in the race.

There's another Republican that I missed earlier: Roque "Rocky" de la Fuente. He entered the race on May 16. Roque De La Fuente presidential campaign, 2020 - Ballotpedia

Republicans Suppress Their Own Voters - WSJ

GA, NC, MN have made Trump the only one in their 2020 primary contests

SC, AZ, KS, NV, AK have canceled their primary contests

Seems like Trump's ideal of an election - where he's the only candidate in the race.

CNN Politics on Twitter: "Joe Walsh calls the GOP a "cult": "(Trump's) a threat to this country. He can't be stopped within the Republican party. ... They bow down in front of their king" https://t.co/ff5IuwAZzg https://t.co/5EkjDcSokm" / Twitter

"I am ending my candidacy for president of the United States," he told CNN's John Berman. "I got into this because I thought it was really important that there was a Republican — a Republican — out there every day calling out this president for how unfit he is."

Walsh also said that he views Trump as “a threat” to the country, but that he can’t be stopped “within the Republican Party.”

“It’s Trump’s party,” he added. “It’s not a party, it’s a cult.”

He pledged to support the Democratic candidate nominated to run against Trump.

"I would rather have, John Berman, a socialist in the White House than a dictator, than a king, than Donald Trump," he told CNN host Berman.
He seems decent, and it's good that he hasn't been cowed into submission by Donald Trump and his base.

The only Trump challenger left in the race is Bill Weld. I was pleasantly surprised to find that he was still active in the race.

Weld warns of Republican Party split, Democratic takeover of Senate | TheHill - warning that the Republican Party may split and lose the Senate if it keeps doing what it's now doing.
“Donald Trump would be in charge of the know-nothing party, which was half of the Whig Party that split a century ago, and you know, they were founded on anti-immigrant prejudice, violent rallies and conspiracy theories,” he told Fox Business Network anchor Neil Cavuto on “Cavuto: Coast to Coast.”

“So history does have a way of repeating itself, and the wonderful thing about the Whig Party splitting up is the other half elected Abraham Lincoln,” he added.

Weld, a former Massachusetts governor, also said if the GOP persists in their efforts, “The emperor has a wonderful suit of new clothes, I think the Republicans will lose the Senate and we’ll have a Democratic Senate and House next year.”

At Iowa, the Republican caucuses were much less eventful than the Democratic ones, and they have these results:

Another one bites the dust. Joe Walsh dropped out on Feb 7, just after the Iowa caucuses.

As expected, President Trump won in New Hampshire. He got 85.6% of the vote and all 22 delegates, Bill Weld 9.1% and no delegates, and all the rest less than 1% each and no delegates.

The Nevada Republican caucuses were canceled.

That would be a disaster for a re-elected Trump, but a catastrophe for the US.
