Sinead O’Connor has announced she is changing her name after converting to Islam.

The Irish singer, who was ordained as a priest in 1999, is now known as Shuhada Davitt.

She described finding Islam as a “natural conclusion of any intelligent theologian’s journey” in a post on Twitter.

Isn't "intelligent theologian" an oxymoron?

Not much to see here really. Just another brainwashed believer changing fantasy gods.

What a complete idiot.

I suppose, given that she's Irish, becoming a muslim is marginally better than the RCC. But they're both shit-awful for women, so she's truly deranged.
Agreed on the oxymoronic nature of "intelligent theologian".

Musically, she dropped off my radar decades ago. I vaguely remember her tearing up a picture of the pope on SNL. Like a lot of talented arts people, she has mental health problems. It must be very hard for her constantly battling the shit that goes on in her head. I remember her two singles "Nothing Compares 2 U" and "Mandinka" which was really good. Good luck to her but I suspect things will change again.

Give the woman a break.

She is mentally ill, and was (and may still be) institutionalized. She was abused and traumatized, and through all of that she became a musician and recorded some excellent albums. She was (and may still be) a great performer. She's done a LOT more in adversity than most of her critics will do with all of their advantages.

Well, I guess nothing compares to her.

You know, after seeing her meltdown online and knowing all of her history with sexual, physical and emotional abuse (starting with her mother ffs) and all of her subsequent psychological problems, it’s good to see her at least (seemingly) at peace.

With all of that in her history, it’s no real surprise she’d find some other cult to call her home.

She's still owed an apology by a lot of people for a lot of criticism she endured, not least Joe Pesci for saying he'd beat her with a baseball bat. All for tearing up a photo of a guy who knowingly played three card monte with pedophiles.

Sinead was one of the first major public figures to really speak out against the Catholic church's abuse of children. The western world owes her an apology for how most treated her after that incident with the Pope's picture.

The world does not owe any kind of apology to her over this nonsense.

Islam as a “natural conclusion of any intelligent theologian’s journey”

First, as others pointed out, her statement is a contradiction. In theology, one must begin with the conclusion, then seek arguments and evidence that support the conclusion that you already have. In almost any other academic field, doing that will have serious negative consequences for your career. Anyone who shapes arguments to fit the conclusion has declared open hostility to the truth.

It's possible for intelligent people to be hostile to the truth, but any conclusions arrived at by assuming the conclusion are not "natural conclusions."

Jeesh. I'm glad there are at least some polite folks here, but why is this even anyone else's business?

Because she announced it for all to know about it. And with an arrogant statement. "All scripture study leads to Islam. Which makes all other scriptures redundant."

As the forum's voice of reason perhaps you can somehow find something in scripture that you can interpret to fit the situation.

It is not a stereotype. An Irish man let alone a woman becoming Muslim I expect is a rarity. Irish Catholic is not a stereotype, although in Ireland it may be changing.

Seeing LIRC's response for the first time, yet again, he reveals severe reading comprehension problems.

Cherry-picking the Irish comment to make it look bad is a standard tactic of the desperate liar. The comment was, of course, plainly meant to point out that that the RCC has had such a devastating effect on Ireland that even the odious islam is better. It's pretty clear that a lot of her mental issues come directly from catholic child abuse. She has a complete right to choose which insane cult she chooses to join. As for Irish stereotyping: just bullshit....I lived in Greystomes Co Wicklow from 2001 to 2012, and my 3 daughters are still there...Ireland is a wonderful country full of wonderful people, many of whom are scarred by the RCC. Also, being a Scot, us and the Irish are blood-brothers in Celt-hood.

So, LIRC, yet again, you opened your mouth and removed all doubt.

I've heard many an atheist say the exact same thing about atheism in nearly those same terms, that Scriptural study leads to it inevitably. I do not agree, yet I have never called nor even considered anyone brain damaged trash for daring to think this. There is such a thing as basic civility, and tolerance of the views of others.
