This is low, even by conservative or libertarian standards.

Ted Cruz’s Texas Senatorial campaign has sent hundreds of thousands of mailers seeking donations that are meant to look like official county summons, a high-ranking campaign official confirmed to Newsweek.

The brown envelopes read “SUMMONS ENCLOSED- OPEN IMMEDIATELY” in large black letters, and have a return address of “official county summons.”

Is this legal?

If it is, we should definitely pass a law against this sort of behavior.

Dang! You beat me to it! Such a fine, upstanding, honest man!

...
"This is not the first time Cruz has sent misleading mail to voters. In the 2016 presidential primaries, the Cruz campaign sent Iowa voters a letter that read “VOTING VIOLATION,” in red font. Below the warning was an explanation."

This is America. Of course it is legal. And if it isn't, well, I'm certain nothing will be done about it.

Yes, very shady. But I guess it's legal.

How many people do you think he tricked into giving him money thinking they were paying something they owed?

You're OK with that?

What am I saying. Of course you're OK with that. You're a rightist, and so you practice "objective morality" under which things are good or bad based on who does them not what is done. Since Ted Cruz is a conservative, this is not bad, but if a Democrat did the same thing, you would be screaming for blood right now.

Anyone want to bet that Ted Cruz will face zero consequences for breaking the law?

There's a not insignificant chance that he'll get fired in a couple of months.

So? If he doesn't get charged with a crime, he got away with the crime. Thus other politicians will know they can do the same thing and get away with it.

On a related note, Teddy is sucking so hard that Republican donors are diverting money from elsewhere in the country to him. He's doing so bad that he is having a negative effect on other races around the country.

He's an incumbent running in Texas. This should be a gimme for the Republicans.

Reminds me of impersonating cops, something that some people do to commit crimes.

It ought to be covered by laws against fraud, and Ted Cruz's campaigners deserve to be prosecuted for it.

Hello.

This is violation of the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act (DTPA).

I know, because I passed this law in 2015.
