The Race For 2024

After the 2020 election I was told how safe, secure, and resistant to tampering or stealing our elections were, and anyone who said otherwise was a right-wing kook.
Spoken like a true simpleton.

It's very difficult to falsify election results in the US; Difficult to the point of being essentially impossible. The counts presented are within a few votes of being an exact and accurate count of the votes cast, in every case. And falsifying or changing those counts without getting caught is just not going to happen.

However, it is fairly easy to move the boundaries of districts in order to get the results you want in a FPTP system - a technique known as "Gerrymandering", which does not involve mis-counting of votes.

And it is also fairly easy to prevent people from voting at all - particularly when voting is entirely optional. Simply reducing the number of voting places where your opponents live, so that lines are long and people don't bother to vote, can have a big impact, as can eliminating 'early voting' and access to postal votes in such places.

An accurate count (no matter how impossible it would be to miscount) of a biased sample is not an accurate representation of the wider system.

After 2020, when it was demonstrated how safe, secure, and resistant to tampering your elections are, those who sought to subvert them had to find a way to do so within the constraints of a tamper-resistant poll, and have done so.

But don't mind the complex truth; Your simple sound-bite is better than any real argument at swaying the opinions of simpletons.

It's far easier to lie to people so that they are happy while their democracy is subverted, than it is to get them to try to grasp a nuanced and complex reality.

So, congratulations for choosing the easy path over the honest one. I hope it brings you happiness.

Nah, you just call up the Secretary of State wherever you lost and tell them to find 11,780 or however many votes you lost by.

So who cares if you get caught? If you’re already president and stacked the courts, chances are that one of them will close the case. And if not, SCROTUS will find a way to make whatever you did legal.

Yabut the the other guys do it too, so why bother? Easier to just “get” the count you want in the first place.

Yup, and when you’re president you can do all you want of that shit, and call it an official act. “Convict me if you can!”

Never fear, they’re still working on it.

Who doesn’t want a life of ease?
🙄

Democrats release contentious autopsy of 2024 presidential race but disavow its contents

The Democratic National Committee released a long-awaited autopsy of the party’s failed 2024 presidential campaign on Thursday, but party leaders took the awkward position of asserting that the report itself “does not meet our standards.”

The report was released “for full transparency,” according to DNC Chair Ken Martin, who has faced months of anger over his earlier decision to withhold it. But the document opens with the DNC disavowing its contents and stating it “cannot independently verify the claims presented.”

The draft report says that while it might be tempting for Democrats to point to narrow margins of defeat for Kamala Harris and downballot candidates and argue they need to tweak rather than overhaul their approach, this “denialist” thinking “prevents the Party from seeking real accountability” and making necessary changes.

The draft report, which was prepared by Democratic strategist Paul Rivera, argues that the White House, under President Joe Biden, did not do enough to set Harris up for political success.

Good ole DNC. Wishy washy as ever.

Trump is an enigma. Trying to analyze elections with him is near impossible. Inflation and the perceived economic conditions carried a lot of weight in the booth. But the Dems held decently in the Senate and House. Overall, I see it like the Cavs loss to the Knicks in Game One. Get the fuck over it, and win the next one!

… in the two weeks they had to ‘set her up’.
Not that Biden should have given way to her a year or so prior… 🙄
I hope a lesson was learned, but I doubt it.

It would be unforgivably naive to assume that there will be a “next one” without considerable, probably violent, turmoil.
Especially with Trump holding out $1,776,000,000.00 for anyone willing to commit violent crimes for him.

About that...

What I noticed about the 24 campaign after Biden dropped out is that Harris was seemingly ignored by a lot of the media and the right media only reported the bad things. On the other hand, every Trump lie was picked up and almost never questioned.

Bezos, commenting on Trump now compared to Trump 45 :
I still think that (Trump has mellowed and is calmer). I think he has, I'm comparing him to his first term, and I think he is more mature, more disciplined version of himself than he was in his first term. ... Trump has lots of good ideas and has been right about a lot of things. You have to give him credit where credit is due.

So even total morons can become billionaires.

It bugs me to hear Dems talk about campaigning better, instead of how they ARE better, legislaters, reps, people, empathitic, kind, honest, etc.
They don't need to be more like the Repuglicans. We don't need better compaigners, we need better people in office.
The Democrats just failed to convince people to not vote for a guy who bragged about sexually assaulting women and incited a riot at the US Capitol because he lost the election. It is really all their fault. ;)

Don't confuse unpleasant but necessary amount of king's butt-kissing with moronity.
Last time I checked Amazon had shitload of government contracts.

"Better" (people) is a very low bar in this case.

You would know low.

No. Biden should have decided not to run again a year earlier so we would have a proper primary season. She should not have been "given" the nomination without a contest.
Most likely a better candidate would have emerged. After all, everybody who saw her campaign performance in 2019 could not have been too excited to see the sequel.

If “always keep them guessing” was actually a strategy for success, Elon Musk might be president right now instead of Donald Trump.

In a new 18-minute long TikTok video, former conservative influencer and mother of one of Elon Musk’s children Ashley St. Clair shared private conversations she allegedly held with the billionaire about the 2024 US election — and the details are bonkers, even by Musk’s unhinged standards.

According to St. Clair, Musk once told her that he had “10,000 lasers in space, referring to his [Starlink] satellites.” These, per the influencer, were Musk’s “anomaly in the matrix,” seemingly meaning he viewed them as a kind of card up his sleeve to be unleashed at the right moment during the course of the US presidential election.

“He says this is not a piece they’ll see on the chess board,” St. Clair continued. “I straight up tell him, ‘I would ask more but I really don’t want to be deposed,’ to which he says ‘very wise.'”

She goes on to allege that Musk forwarded her private voting data that had determined Donald Trump’s victory hours before the official tallies were in.

“Shortly after that, y’know, he’s involved with America PAC, and all of this other stuff, and he’s sending me some internal data from America PAC, real-time delta vote metrics,” she continued, referring to the $171 million super PAC founded by Musk to support Trump’s bid for reelection.

“And then on election night itself, Elon, y’know left Mar-a-Lago early… and he told me over text ‘yeah I knew hours ago that Trump won, my team has the best real-time data anywhere,'” St. Clair alleged. “First of all, how the f**k do you have real-time data on elections? I could not understand that, I don’t know that I ever will.”

While we wouldn’t put it past Musk to brag about his massive network of Starlink satellites to impress his date, the claim that he had the ability to interfere with the election with some orbital satellite plot isn’t even close to being substantiated. (Both the University of Washington’s Center for an Informed Public and the nonprofit PolitiFact have debunked the late-2024 election meddling conspiracy theory St. Clair seems to be referring to here. In any case, we have no idea how “lasers” would be used to meddle with the polls.)

The reality is much more boring. Yes, Musk interfered with the election, but he did it the legal way: through that $171 million super PAC, which arguably would have been illegal prior to landmark ruling of Citizens United.
Musk's ex is spreading a conspiracy theory that Musk used his Starlink network to interfere in the 2024 election. As I understand it, she has emails and texts from him admitting it.

I'm not going to hold my breath.
