I think President gave a pretty good speech. He stuttered just a couple of times but but showed no signs of mental decline and even had a couple of zingers ready for Republicans when they tried to zinger him.. It makes me much more comfortable with November.

He showed some frustration over how lines came out, but all in all, he's aware of what goes a bit wonky when. It's certainly a sign that he's not quite as mentally sharp as he was.

The thing is, Trump isn't even aware of when he's shitting his pants let alone making a mistake, and I'll take "a bit frayed" over "complete dementia" any day.

Completely disagree. There has never been a time when "it" didn't "go a bit wonky" with his speech.
His instant, spontaneous reaction to heckling was evidence that he has yet to miss a beat, mentally.

Yeah there's that - it's not like there is any 1:1 comparison possible between a lifetime public servant and a lifetime criminal mob boss anyhow.

Yes, it went pretty well as these speeches go (which isn't setting a high standard, especially relative to the last decade of them).

Kudos to the Speaker for keeping the more insane/juvenile elements of his party somewhat in line for most of it. It's embarassing to see, how much they struggle to sit still and close their mouths for an hour! Like a class of seventh graders, only with less tact.

I think Trump sometimes does know when he makes a mistake in speaking, But since he is such a narcissistic psychopath he won’t just say “excuse me”, correct himself and move on with his speech.

And it’s hard to decide which is worse—not knowing that you made an obvious mistake —or refusing to correct yourself when you make an obvious mistake because your ego is too fragile..

It is entirely possible he doesn’t care because it doesn’t matter to him what comes out of his piehole. It’s pretty obvioys it doesn’t matter to him what goes in his piehole.

Should we talk about Katie Britt's rebuttal? Like a porno, I haven't watched it in its entirety but is it as consistently bad as I thought?

Katie Britt? Hands down, the star of the evening. I watched her and saw a new Republican dynasty begin, right in that little modern American kitchen. The little gasps and hints of a sob in her voice? Absolutely heart-wrenching. The whispered delivery? It was like she was talking to my soul. For those of you who missed her speech, let me quote from her summation:

"To the moms of America: We see you. We hear you. We stand with you as you bring each embryo to term. Wes and I look out our window and wonder: Who can take a sunrise -- sprinkle it with dew? Cover it with chocolate and a miracle or two...The Candy Man can, 'cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good. Joe Biden can't make your world taste good, can he? So, to all of my countrymen, we are the world. We are the children. We are the ones who make a brighter day, so let's start giving. God Bless America. And I can't deny the fact that you like me. Right now -- YOU LIKE ME!"

A truly historic moment in American oratory. This advances the Republican cause like a huge shot of adrenalin and gusto and fentanyl. Wham.

Yes - We've been in the bizarro world since 2016. Any comparisons about age, mental sharpness, blah, blah are completely irrelevant considering the choice between a Trump and pretty much anyone else.

Unhinged:

If a photo speaks a thousand words, I apologize for being verbose. My view is that he misses every beat, mentally.

I think you would be better served here with the thousand words. At least if they be rational.

I don’t think a photo portraying a fraction of a second of a man’s life will be compelling to the posters at this forum. Perhaps elsewhere, with folks more likeminded to you, but not here.

But, you’ll just say it’s a cult and move on, I’m sure.

And let's face it, there are WAY more photos of Trump looking angry, afraid, unhinged, or just plain stupid because... Trump is always those things and often visibly so.

Deplorable did the same little unhinged drive-by in another thread. 🥱

"Misses every beat, mentally"? You must be referring to that weird performance by Li'l Katie, who at no point seemed to be a genuine human being talking to actual fellow human beings. I think AI has arrived at the "perfect" imitation of a human, minus the humanity.
