And some of those people still die.

Also, people with pre-existing conditions such as high blood pressure, i.e. a significant part of the population and other people with pre-existing conditions such as diabetes and other people with pre-existing conditions such as respiratory issues like asthma, COPD, regular sinus problems, and finally people with coincidentally acute illness like pneumonia or flu all have a bigger risk with having both the effects of coronavirus and the effects of these other things making for a very bad time. Some of these people with high blood pressure, asthma, or flu would not be dying if they did not also have covid-19. Therefore, it is irrational to exclude any of this but instead we need to understand the "excess" of deaths if we were not hit with the pandemic.

The CDC provides comprehensive statistics that go far beyond what we are discussing and reports out the data in a way that has been consistent across multiple Presidential administrations, both Republican and Democrat. Republicans are okay with screaming about how the numbers are calculated since Dear Leader took office, but when Obama was President they screamed about how ineffective he was against the swine flu and other illnesses where the CDC used the same counting methodology.

Most of those pre-existing conditions were things you live with, not things that would kill you in the near future. A guy says let it run its course and kill whoever, then someone asks him to choose who will die, and then his own extended family all come walking into the room. They ask him again, who do you choose for that percentage who will die? He starts to cry.

Our brains may have evolved over eons in environments of small tribes of a couple hundred, but it's not like we don't understand that all those people in the world that we don't know personally are actual humans and not the abstractions our brains tend to make them. There's no excuse.
