The Wall

Hialeah has next to no Mexican citizens, actually; it's population is almost entirely Cuban. I take it we mean "Mexican" in the racist-American sense of "slightly dark skin and speaks Spanish".

And if you live in a town that's almost entirely Hispanic and never bothered to learn the language, I'd say you're the one who is refusing to sensibly assimilate. ¿Para qué sirve?

Those Mexican wetbacks have taken over El Paso too. You never hear English down there.

I wish Canadians would start flooding the fascist red states in the midwest. That would be an improvement.

It would be a great thing for many Americans if leaning Spanish was mandatory in school.

The idea that being uni-lingual is better than to be bilingual is a historically bad idea.

Wouldn't hurt if some were taught some English at the same time.

I figured that The Wall, being the biggest, most beautiful structure ever constructed by humans in the history of the world, deserved its own thread here. If for no other reason than to give members the chance to give their own estimations of what is going to ultimately happen with The Wall, the #TrumpShutdown, the National Emergency etc..

I'll offer that I believe one of the talking heads on MSNBC nailed it last night: Trump is going to back himself into a "victory". Instead of demanding 2000 miles of a concrete wall, he is already down to "steel slats" (Jaws of Life, anyone?). Eventually he will be demanding 654 miles of some physical barrier. He will get that, and declare victory.
HOW will he get that?
IT ALREADY EXISTS, and existed before he took office. Will that factoid matter in the least to his base? No.

I personally doubt that he'll further risk immediate impeachment by trying to invoke Emergency Powers, but ... maybe he's that stupid.

Anyhow, that's my read and the read of the talking head on MSNBC.
Your ideas?

It will depend on whether Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh go along with it.

How about this as a bargaining point -- to be made sincerely and immediately made public after it's put forth: 5 billion for a wall in exchange for the prior release of the last ten years of your tax returns.

No.

% billion for "Wall" in exchange for his and Pence's resignation

More terrorist have been caught at the Canadian border than the Mexican border.

And the majority of illegals in this country are here because their visa's expired and they didn't leave. Also, the vast, vast majority of illegal drugs arrive via legal entry points.

But why don't the dems float the idea that if Trumpo wants his wall they can advance an increase in taxes to pay for it. Or start a GoFundMe campaign, rabid right wingers will mortgage their houses to pay for their beloved wall. Right?

Someone did start a GoFund me account for Trump's vanity wall. It raised 20 million of the 5+ billion. It was also a scam.

It's not racist and I resent the implication. .

Trump's vanity wall is based on purely racist motives. Before it was Trump's wall, it was Steve King's wall. There is ZERO evidence this stupid wall concept will work, while hundreds of experts say it will not.

You can resent whatever you like, but those are the facts

It really is a vanity wall, another would-be monument to stupidity. No wall in history ever worked.

The truth about the wall is that most of Trump's supporters think that when you erect a barrier the job is done and everyone on our side is safe and lives happily ever after. That's their reality. They think that once you put it up you can dust off your hands and walk away from drugs and illegals. They really believe that. The border no longer needs our attention because it's safe now. They think people are like cattle, projecting their own stupidity certainly.

I didn't think this was the case until I talked with a few. They are sincere in this belief. They think it will save the U.S. lots of money by solving the problem of illegals and drugs once and for all.

This is beside the fact that they are racist, xenophobic imbeciles for the most part.

My first week stationed at the sub tendrr in Scotland, in Indoc, the subject of illicit drugs was the topic of one of the presentations. The Master At Arms mentioned that if you wanted drugs, you coukd go to the enlisted club and get them.
Guy next to me asked, why are we allowing drug dealers into the base club?

Because they are sailors, was the answer.

Guy immediately asked, then why are we recruiting drug dealers? Sure semed straightforward to him.

If that guy is still alive, he probably believes one wall solves the entire problem.

I don't know if he is, though. That same presenter mentioned that if you wanted it tyhat badly, you could go to the line locker, cut yourself an inch of hemp rope, put that in your pipe and smoke it.
This idiot put TWO inches of nylon rope in a pipe, got it on fire, and scarred his lungs...

Some Trumpsuckers are now believing that Mexico damn well was going to heel to Trump and pay for the wall, but some drug cartel threatened to kill their families if they did so they changed their minds. The Mexican president's family? I don't know. They don't, either, because the pulled this nonsense out of their asses to justify Trump's lies about it.

After going through the enlistment process in the ealy 70s I was convinced that if a person with track marks went in a recruiter's office and said he was a former addict he'd be recommened as a medic. That's just how it was then. If you stocked shelves in a grocery store you were a cook.

Is it time for a pool? How will this resolve? Is the Republican party committing suicide?
Polling strongly indicates that this is indeed a #trumpshutdown in the minds of most Americans (blame trump/repugs 53% vs Dems 29% in this case). Do the 'pugs expect it to get better for them as this drags on?
Does one (or more) of the following scenarios play out?

* Government stays closed/partially closed until 2020
* Dems offer Cheato some wall money in exchange for ending the #trumpshutdown
* Turtle takes up a clean CR, passes it in the Senate and Trump signs it
* Turtle takes up a clean CR, passes it in the Senate w/o veto-proof margin and Trump vetoes it, then
* Senate passes it with veto-proof margin
* Senate fails to override the veto and the shutdown goes on

You forgot "* Mexicans pay for the Wall"

But what is Fox telling Trump most Americans think? If Fox is blaming Dems, Trump will believe all of America blames the Dems, and he's winning. He just has to wait this out.

Dems offer Cheato some wall money in exchange for ending the #trumpshutdown
Nope.
Trump cannot end w/out money, and the Dems cannot offer money. Not at this point. Then the question for either of them becomes 'Why now, what changed? Why you no do this before the Govt. Payday?'

Same for the vaunted National Emergency. "If you were going to illegally raid the military coffers to pay for your vanity monument, why didn't you do it back in December, and spare us all from this stupid shutdown bullshit?"

So, Keith - where's your money? What's going to happen. (You may consult Mrs. &Co prior to answering if you wish :D )

Democrats refusing to play along IS national emergency :)

My money is on Congress passing a budget, overriding the promised veto.

Dems sing a victory, we didn't cave.
Trump sings it AS a victory, I did not cave, but Dems and GOP both failed me.
GOP shoulders the blame for the cave, but at the next election sells it as necessary because both sides were being stupid.

Democrats refusing to play cave to Trump's petulant demands IS national emergency :)

FIFY

Dems offered Shit-for-brains 25 Billion $ for his stupid wall, if he'd fix DACA. Trump said okay, then refused.
Senate passed a CR unanimously, leaving the border security question open for debate. Trump said he'd sign it. But when the House passed it and sent it back to the Senate, Turtle wouldn't allow a vote on it, knowing that it would pass and Trump would once again break his word.

Tell me again what the Dems are doing that is National Emergency? Not giving Trump autocratic powers? Certainly a capital crime in YOUR home country, but in the US, Congress is a co-equal branch of government, and McConnell's Senate is refusing to do its assigned job. In this country, barbos, Congress is supposed to make the laws, whether or not the president likes them. He can veto all he wants, but if there is a sufficient majority to override a veto, then it's just tough titty for the president. The president doesn't get to hold the entire government hostage for vanity shit that the people don't want (like this stupid wall).

That's an interesting scenario... and should it come to pass, Trump will be loudly excoriating every congressional republican who votes to deny him his monument. He'll probably try to get the Party to primary them all with David Duke look-alikes.
If he is really so delusional that he thinks the 2020 races are going see "racist tsunami" and he acts accordingly, I'm surely going to run out of popcorn. :D
