Then don’t ever try to master the “illegal formation” rules.

It’s not that complicated:

1) No tacklers or blockers move until the ball hits something/someone.

2) If the ball goes into the end zone on the fly, the receiving team can run it out or take it on the 30.

3) If the ball lands short of the “landing zone” (between the goal line and the 20), it’s the same as a kick out of bounds. The play is dead and the ball is placed on the 40.

4) If the ball lands in the landing zone and rolls into the end zone, it can be returned or taken at the 20.

That’s basically it. It only seems weird because of where the players line up.
