Trump VS COVID-19 Threat

That's not a citation. No where does it show Acosta saying "See? Fences don't work.". Not even close.

He implied fences don't work.

It's the equivalent of going to a store after hours and the door is locked and you say, "No one's trying to get in. Why do they even lock the door?"

You do know what quotation marks mean, don;t you?

He said that. 6:10 in the video clip. Seoul now has 38 million people. And it had nothing to do with what the reporter asked. I honestly can't imagine what it's like for these reporters to try and have an adult conference with someone and the replies they get are incoherent gibberish with no relevance to what was asked or discussed,

No idea at all.

I've never seen anyone argue like that.

At all.

Ever.

No one at all.

Honestly.
You've been posting here since '04 and you haven't seen someone argue like that? ;)

Nope, never. I can only imagine what it would be like if someone just posted random bullshit that had no relevance to the topic at hand.

But remember, Jim Acosta was the idiot who went to the border fence and saw there were no people around it trying to climb it and said, "See? Fences don't work."

Umm...I'm gonna have to revise my earlier statement.

No, no he doesn't

Rep. Katie Porter on coronavirus testing, the stimulus, and the bailout - Vox
The California Congress member has emerged as an influential voice on Capitol Hill amid the coronavirus crisis — she is leading the (thus far failed) charge to push for remote voting, and in a five-minute viral exchange she got the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to concede that the authority already exists for Covid-19 testing to be free. And she’s not stopping now, especially in the wake of the $2.2 trillion stimulus package Congress passed last week — which, by the way, she’s not thrilled with. Specifically, the $500 billion corporate bailout that has very few strings attached.

“Maybe we should still be debating that, but they tried to package it all in together,” she said in an interview on Friday, the day the bill passed. “I’m sure it produces a great press conference. I’m not sure it produces the best results for the American people to have these behemoth bills.”
This most recent aid bill has good points, like grant assistance for small businesses, and bad points, like $500 billion corporate-bailout fund without much oversight.

"I’m incredibly frustrated with House leadership, on both sides of the aisle, for not being able to use these two months to come up with technology to allow us to have remote hearings." she says. Neither Nancy Pelosi nor Mitch McConnell supports remote voting, despite their great age.

How to safely end social distancing and ease the Covid-19 pandemic - Vox

The first thing is testing on a very massive scale.
Once there’s widespread testing, there needs to be a huge team of public health workers in place to trace the contacts of those who test positive. Everyone who tests positive or who has come into contact with someone who tests positive then needs to be put into quarantine or isolation, to not spread the virus any further. This is how authorities routinely beat outbreaks — even of incredibly infectious diseases like measles.
Social distancing could be gradually stepped down, like opening schools, but still having teleworking and still banning mass gatherings.
In any case, we’ll probably have to take a step-wise approach off social distancing and see how we can best balance it with returning to some small slice of normal life. In time, we’ll learn how to achieve that balance. For now — and because there are just so many things about this virus that are still not known — we need to stay put.

...
But it will take a lot to get there. The authors argue these decisions need to be made on a region-by-region basis: Phase two should only begin after 14 days of sustained case reductions in an area, and only after testing capacity is dramatically increased. Even in phase two, they stress, if cases go up again, we’ll need to go back to severe social distancing. Before there’s a vaccine, we’ll have to remain vigilant.

Expect this to be the new talking point from Trumpblowers:

McConnell: Impeachment 'diverted' attention from coronavirus concerns
When asked about Cotton's early warnings, McConnell said: "It came up while we were tied down on the impeachment trial. And I think it diverted the attention of the government, because everything every day was all about impeachment."

Mitch McConnell is a medical marvel. He's a giant cunt with a massive set of balls on him. The sad thing is people are going to believe this bullshit narrative.

Well, I have heard that it is hard for neanderthals to walk and chew gum at the same time....so just because Chuck Schumer could talk impeachment and "oh shit, this coronovirus thing looks bad" in late January, doesn't mean Moscow Mitch can...

How much golf he played has nothing to do with this. The problem is his denials of the problem that are shown on that list. What you're missing is most leaders fucked this up badly. It appears we have a total of 4 countries that have handled this well: Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea and Israel. China messed up at first and used an awfully heavy-handed approach, but they have done a decent job. Everyone else gets an F. (Although in the worst-off parts of the world ignoring it is probably the best course of action. There are two reasons for shutdowns--to reduce the number of people who die from a lack of treatment and to buy time for a treatment/vaccine to be developed. The shitholes of the world don't have much of a medical system in the first place, nor can most people avail themselves of what exists. Delaying catching it isn't going to do anything to improve their prospects and their societies can't function in a shutdown anyway.)

Yeah, you may be right at least in principle. I have a nagging fear that China is so heavily invested in getting their arms around (owning) Africa, this thing is going to recur and recur for a decade or more. The suffering and loss of life in Africa will be staggering - but it will probably be that regardless of whether China keeps re-exporting it unless a vaccine happens along pretty quick. If a vaccine is found, produced and proven effective before November, we're probably even more fucked.

I don't think China is going to be reexporting this much, they seem to have done a pretty good job of stamping it out. Besides, once there is uncontained community spread what travelers might bring in is of no relevance (hence only the countries that shut their borders very early were actually doing anything useful), reexporting isn't even relevant.

There's little chance of a vaccine this year, the testing takes too long.

Few people in Africa have the resources to isolate for an extended period, I figure the whole place will get infected rapidly. The population is young, but they have a lot of HIV cases and I expect this will decimate them.

I have to ask: is this caution necessary? Vaccines could be available on an experimental basis to anyone with a strong risk of the disease. They would be available much quicker, though at much greater risk.

The @ACLU's @naureenshah:

"Not only do we know now more than ever that all of us are vulnerable to COVID-19, even those who appear young and healthy, we also know ICE and CBP are agencies that have horrific track records when it comes to dealing with medical conditions."

An @ICEgov spokesperson reiterated today that there has been "no change" in policy regarding the current detainee population.

The agency, however, makes "custody determinations every day on a case-by-case basis," the spokesperson added.
I agree. If they are not dangerous, then release them.

At this point it's not necessary, but even if there is a proven vaccine there is still a problem of producing it. It's slow process.

AOC - mitigating with social justice.
AOC mentioned a problem with the virus and sick leave: one may not be able to qualify unless one tests positive, and tests may be hard to get. Also, in some cases, tests are so scarce that they are being reserved for the most severe cases.

What can consumers do? Support striking workers - pay into strike funds. She notes that many of the "essential workers" are lower-middle-class and often nonwhite, either quickly laid off or else made to work under these conditions. About Rikers Island, we should explore "elderly clemency".

About NYCHA, the New York City Housing Authority, some capital funding in the recent bill for repairs to its buildings. Then treating rent like mortgages, including taking care of landlords. About Trump, she says that he's playing catch-up. She's not sure whether or not he has invoked the Defense Production Act to make ventilators and other such stuff - news stories about that are a confusing mess.

About Nancy Pelosi:
On Monday morning, in an interview with “Fox & Friends,” he referred to Speaker Nancy Pelosi as a “sick puppy” after she had appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union” and said the president’s early denials about the dangers of the coronavirus carried “deadly” consequences.

“As the president fiddles, people are dying,” Pelosi said.

In an interview Monday, she rolled her eyes at his attack. “Every knock from him is a boost for me, quite frankly, so I don’t care what he says,” she said.
About Yamiche Alcindor:
“Let me tell you something,” Trump said, after denying he made statements that he had, in fact, made. “Be nice. Don’t be threatening. Don’t be threatening. Be nice.”

Alcindor tweeted in response that she was “not the first human being, woman, black person or journalist to be told that while doing a job.”

For Hobby Lobby to maintain a profit while firing its entire workforce tells you everything you need to know about Hobby Lobby.

What makes you think it tells him anything?
Immunity to facts is a hallmark of conservotards.
Halfie hasn't even admitted that his is bullshit:

... by April we will be laughing going,
"Remember how everyone panicked over the coronavirus
because the media started fear mongering?"

My timing was a little off. It looks like April will be the worst of it and then May should be the downhill part of the curve and then by June 1 (possibly a roaring speech by Trump announcing the re-opening of the economy for Memorial Day weekend) the economy will be roaring ready for a nice 5 months of smooth sailing right into Trump's 2nd term.

Your "timing" has fuck all to do with your claim that the media was "fear mongering" over this pandemic. Do you still think this is a hoax spun up by the Democrats?

It looks like April will be the worst of it and then May should be the downhill part of the curve and then by June 1

Do you still think people will be laughing over it? And are you basing this prediction on any facts or is this just another one of your feelings? Maybe one of these days conservatives will realize that facts don't care about their feelings, but I'm not too optimistic.

possibly a roaring speech by Trump

How fucking deluded is this? Name one time Trump has completed a thought without derailing into something else. The man has the attention span of a goldfish; speeches aren't his forte. Incoherent bullshit is more his speed.

so, more than 'a little off.'
You insisted the worst would be behind us by now. And that 'worst' would be negligable.
Instead, the worst is still yet to come.

So, you were simply fucking wrong. Fractally wrong.
and then May should be the downhill part of the curve
just curious, how many deaths in the 'downhill part' of your curve, Halfie?
How many total US deaths can we expect?

I think Pelosi is standing in criticizing the president because poor Biden just isn't getting his message through.

He's been mostly absent through this debacle, and when he finally surfaces, he takes all those rumors of cognitive decline and add credence to them.

Now he has started the slow drip of more sexual accusers as well. This is exactly why is said he can't beat Trump. He's going to get annilated if there's a debate. This is all going to continue. The only way I can see Trump getting bested is that Trump beats himself by doing such a poor job fighting this pandemic. Which he unfortunately WILL do, because he's incapable of being halfway competent.

Even if you're correct about Trump's incompetent. Think how much more worse a Biden, or Zoroaster forbid, a Sanders presidency would be.
How so? Trump's major reason for incompetency is obvious. He is viewing the entire situation through the lens of re-election and how this will all affect HIM. His narcisism. Combine this with a profound lack of mental ability, incredible lack of any intellectual curiosity, and complete lack of empathy, and we have a deadly mix. Add to this the lack of expertise and experience present in his administration and that's a recipe for disaster. It's a fucking clown show.

Any of the recent contenders could do better. Yes, some wouldn't be ideal, but they would still be better. Perhaps most of them would at least bother to use the pandemic playbook given to them for just such a situation.

Frankly, I'm embarrassed for anyone trying to defend this at this point. Did you watch yesterday's clusterfuck? I watched it live as Trump accused hospitals and states of hoarding and selling supplies because the required amount of ventilators and PPE has gone up dramatically suddenly - in the middle of a pandemic. The quiet in the room is palpable as everyone sits there virtually stunned at how STUPID this man truly is. Yet here he is, leading this effort. Trump is the driver of a bus, blindfolded and smoking a cigarette bragging about how he's "the best driver, driving very strongly" while heading straight for a cliff. Meanwhile the passengers all see the impending doom and are sitting there wondering how to get his dumb ass out of the driver's seat.

So your best argument is he's still better than anyone else? Weak. So very, very weak. So weak it makes me wonder what is going on in your own mind - what motivates you to say such a dumb thing in an attempt to salvage this man? Why do you throw away every piece of common sense and completely ignore WHAT YOU KNOW TO BE TRUE? What makes someone do that? What is so important to you within this man that you would embarrass yourself and toss away any shred of dignity and intellectual credibility?

I take all knowledge to be my province.

My comment was, and is meant to point out, that as incompetent the Trump may seem be to the left leaning, it will be perhaps twice as bad with a creepy Joe, or as I said, Ra forbid, a Sanders presidency!

As for shortage medical equipment, I know this site is like waving a cross and garlic to a vampire here, I await any refute of the facts............................https://cms.frontpagemag.com/point/...obile-ventilators-democrats-daniel-greenfield
In 2006, citing the threat of avian flu, then-Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger announced the state would invest hundreds of millions of dollars in a powerful set of medical weapons to deploy in the case of large-scale emergencies and natural disasters such as earthquakes, fires and pandemics.

Well, it seems the right wing attack is now ‘the left would have done worse’. Of course we need to take the word of Trump supporters, who had up to now been defending Trump’s response.

And it seems hard to imagine a worse response than Trump’s.

You didn't answer the question, nor did you salvage your reply in any way. What would be worse about a Biden, Sanders, or Pelosi administration that would make their response worse? Complete supposition on your part? What can you point to that would lead to exceptionally extreme ineptitude in policy, ideology, administration culture, etc? You've got nothing, and the fact you didn't offer anything already reinforces that point.

Also, does this mean you are directly admitting that the Obama administration would handle this better than any of them? We certainly have real word results to point to. But I predict you do the ridiculous dodge dance just as you did in your earlier answer. Your arguments are pretty lazy for a MAGA supporter, they usually have more zeal; but it's like that with most MAGA guys on this topic. Hard to defend eh? When your president is now being set up by FOX news and AM radio saying that Trump is the best president ever IF he keeps our deaths below 200,000. Three weeks there were 15 cases soon to be zero by our illustrious leader. Talk about a shifting of the goal posts.

I take all knowledge to be my province.
