Trump's Appointments

I'd be happy if they would just quit digging the hole deeper.
You’ll be happier then, when Trump defaults on the entire 37t$.
Goods will be scarce, food might be scarce, but you’ll be … happier?

I'm planning for the worst. Last time Trump was in office I was laid off from my longtime job, was out of work when the pandemic hit, my savings balance went way down, and my credit card debt went way up. What work I could find was not enough.

I started working at my current place a few months after Biden took over, and spent the last 3 years getting out of debt/building up my savings. I fully expect the economy to return to being a dumpster fire under Trump, and this time I am better prepared. One of the many things that concerns me is Elon using his new position to rig things in favor of Tesla and inflicting hardships on other EV manufacturers and self-driving companies. I work for a subsidiary of GM, and if he does enough damage, we'd be on the chopping block. So I'm going to hold off on getting my bathroom remodeled, and will keep building up my savings. It could be a bumpy ride.

Should I buy Tesla stock as a hedge against the destruction of Companies I actually like?

I know as much about buying stock as I do about Bitcoin and quantum physics. Just enough to know I shouldn't be involved.

I know about that much, plus some of oft-repeated truisms “buy and hold proven Companies” and crap like that.
I’ve broken the rules and gotten lucky, barely besting the performance of the managed account. But right now … I’m thinking about safe havens because I really really REALLY don’t want to work again.

Hegseth apparently is a drunk, can't handle money, and can't keep his pants zipped. He had to step down from 2 nonprofit advocacy groups Veterans for Freedom and Concerned Veterans for America in the face of serious allegations of financial mismanagement, sexual impropriety, and personal misconduct.

As I said before - these things all go under secondary skills on resumes for Trumps choices.

Excerpts from the Hartmann Report on recent appointments. (Two Infidels have already commented on Bhattacharya in this thread.)
[Dr. Jan] Bhattacharya’s stance against lockdowns and vaccine mandates, coupled with his promotion of herd immunity, raises questions about how far the NIH will be degraded under his leadership. This appointment, alongside other controversial nominations such as Bob Kennedy, a known vaccine skeptic, to lead the Department of Health and Human Services, suggests a shift away from science-based public health policies in our agencies that were specifically created to promote science-based public health.
...
Trump’s nomination of John Phelan, an art collector and Republican megadonor [amd private investment fund manager] who has never served in the military, as Secretary of the Navy, represents another radical departure from traditional appointments.
...
Trump’s selection of Russell Vought to lead the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) signals a significant shift toward embedding Christian nationalist ideologies within federal governance.... [Vought claims] that the United States was founded as a Christian nation and should be governed accordingly.

Why would Phelan even want to be Sec'y of the Navy? The Navy has an annual budget of over a quarter of a trillion dollars. Opportunities for graft must be huge.
