Well... it's Trump... again. #47, here we go.

The market is desperate to believe anything. Bessent says this tariff thing is unsustainable and the market goes up. Rumors Trump might lower tariff to half, markets go up. They aren't even waiting for viable actions at this point.

First world problems, but I might not be buying a video game system because of the President of the United State's reckless tariff policies. My ability to purchase things has rarely been negatively impacted directly by the actions of a President. We've had recessions and slow economies, but that was either slow burn policy or outside circumstances. Trump is directly impacting my ability to buy stuff. That is fucked up.
Some people are buying high end imported items now before the tariffs hit and they become unaffordable. I've done some of that myself.

Trump is truly the Art of the Deal kind of guy with Ukraine/Russia peace proposal.
article said:
What Russia gets under Trump's proposal
  1. "De jure" U.S. recognition of Russian control in Crimea.
  2. "De-facto recognition" of the Russia's occupation of nearly all of Luhansk oblast and the occupied portions of Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia.
  3. A promise that Ukraine will not become a member of NATO. The text notes that Ukraine could become part of the European Union.
  4. The lifting of sanctions imposed since 2014.
  5. Enhanced economic cooperation with the U.S., particularly in the energy and industrial sectors.
I can only imagine the arm twisting required to get these concessions from Russia.
article said:
What Ukraine gets under Trump's proposal
  1. "A robust security guarantee" involving an ad hoc group of European countries and potentially also like-minded non-European countries. The document is vague in terms of how this peacekeeping operation would function and does not mention any U.S. participation.
  2. The return of the small part of Kharkiv oblast Russia has occupied.
  3. Unimpeded passage of the Dnieper River, which runs along the front line in parts of southern Ukraine.
  4. Compensation and assistance for rebuilding, though the document does not say where the funding will come from.
This is why Trump is Donald Trump. Russia gets almost everything they want and Ukraine gets thrown some shade. I can't imagine why Putin or Zelensky would walk away from this deal.

Trump Admin continues its master class of shitty governing.
article said:
The Trump administration has restored the student visa registrations of thousands of foreign students studying in the United States who had minor — and often dismissed — legal infractions.

...

Judges also expressed frustration with the seemingly arbitrary moves and the unwillingness of government lawyers to say whether the students could continue to attend classes or needed to leave the country immediately.

The terminations from the federal database earlier this month sparked more than 100 lawsuits, with judges in more than 50 of the cases — spanning at least 23 states — ordering the administration to temporarily undo the actions. Dozens more judges seemed prepared to follow suit before Friday’s reversal.

DOJ said that Immigration and Customs Enforcement is working on a new policy regarding foreign students studying in the United States on so-called F-1 visas. Until that policy is issued, no students will have their online student-visa records, known as SEVIS records, terminated “solely based on” criminal history checks that had flagged misdemeanor charges and dismissed cases.
So now it looks like instead of doing a shitty job in a shitty fashion, the Admin might actually try to apply a standard. Could even run it well.

That's not really a first world problem, so much as it is an indication that the fuck up is so severe that even those protected by their comfortable first world lives are seeing some of the effects.

You not buying that video game system is irrelevant to the global economy; But as a symptom of millions of Americans not buying stuff, it represents something much more frightening.

We have nothing to fear, save fear itself. Oh, and Trump. He's fucking terrifying.

Trump just had a judge arrested for interfering in his deportation plans.

Which is why some people are buying now, if they can afford to buy, before what they want to buy is unavailable, or priced out of their range. We a have a marketplace that is in a state of panic.

I bought car consumables and got all my vehicles up to date with brakes, wipers, etc. I may buy some hiking boots since mine are getting up in age. My kid bought a house before appliances and lumber added $30k to construction costs.

And no, it's not a joke

Does the large-font title on this whitehouse.gov document:
Fact Sheet: President Donald J. Trump Makes America’s Showers Great Again
seem so hyperbolic that one wonders if some minion is trolling -- poking fun at this "hilarious" White House?

I do realize that that is NOT happening -- this is the White House where nobody dares tell the Führer when he's wearing no clothes. Still, I wonder if Comedy Central is laying off its joke writers: They're hardly needed; this Admin is an unrelenting farce all by itself.
No conservatives just are really so stupid they think this is an important issue.
Or it's dog whistling saying they want to do something involving "showers".

Never let a good crisis go to waste. Buy today for tomorrow shelves may be bare.

I was going to toss my old NPS Danner Quarry boots. Not because they're so worn but because they are no longer worn by me. Well, it just goes to show you, it's always something. You're either walking around with rags wrapped around your feet or you're stuck wearing last years fashion.

*This post may or may not be laced with sarcasm. I'll let you know in six months.
**With respect to Roseanne Roseannadanna.

I'm an old man. It no longer makes any difference to me how fashionable things are or aren't. I don't care what people think any more. If the item is still usable, whatever it is.

Trump Has Now Deported Multiple U.S. Citizen Children With Cancer

Two families — among them three U.S. citizens aged two, four, and seven — were abruptly deported under "troubling circumstances," says the ACLU of Louisiana

Trump evil.

Sorry, Sarah. He doesn't need your vote any longer. He's going to be emperor in chief forever.

The Orange Sack-o-Shit and his lapdog Karoline Leavitt (what a lying weasel she is) are calling it a "hostile and political act" on reports that Amazon is planning to display next to items what the tariff component is on the total cost.

I would value seeing how much the the tariff adds to the cost of an item when I shop on Amazon.
But Sack-o-Shit no like. He really doesn't look one step ahead. Of course resellers were likely to provide that information.

The Piece-o-Shit is the kind of person who expects to be able to punch someone in the face but never get punched back.

This is how he behaved when he announced the tariffs in the first place.

Finally some poll data on things I've been wondering about.

86% of Americans oppose Trump's desire to take over Canada
76% of Americans oppose Trump's desire to take over Greenland
80% of Americans oppose Trump's trying for a 3rd term
66% of Americans oppose Trump's desire to send violent criminal US citizens to foreign prisons

That last one I'm disappointed that 1/3 of Americans think it would be OK to send US citizens to foreign prisons. Evil fucks

So 10% of Americans think taking over Canada isn't okay, but Greenland is.

I'm curious what percentage of that 33% would be okay with just sending US citizens to foreign prisons.
