Well... it's Trump... again. #47, here we go.

Many of our allies and friends are celebrating May 8th as Victory Day, but we did more than any other Country, by far, in producing a victorious result on World War II. I am hereby renaming May 8th as Victory Day for World War II and November 11th as Victory Day for World War I. We won both Wars, nobody was close to us in terms of strength, bravery, or military brilliance, but we never celebrate anything—That's because we don't have leaders anymore, that know how to do so! We are going to start celebrating our victories again!

Memorial Day isn't a day to celebrate. It honors the fallen. It is somber. Veterans Day was meant to honor the US Veterans of war.

The cost of defeating the Nazis was incredibly high. We barely fought in WWI. The French lost a generation in that war of nonsense.

Trump just never seems to say anything that is appropriate... but even for him, this is appalling and disgraceful.

Trump has no interest in being truthful. He just makes stuff up.

The "foreign prisons" aren't prisons, they are concentration camps. A prison is part of the justice system, and inherently tied to the rest of that system. You have a right to representation in a court of law before being sent to a prison, and you have a defined sentence after which you will be released from that prison. If you are serving an "unofficial" life sentence in an encampment whose location was chosen specifically to evade the legal system, and neither had nor have legal representation nor any hope of legal recourse, you are in an illegal concentration camp. Not a legal prison facility.

How far will this get?
Will congress cut the funding?
Don't make Big bird cry!

A good point. For me, one of the biggest issues is that we are sending people who didn't commit a crime to a torture prison in another country. And 30% of America supports it.

We did before, too. When the Japanese internment camp system was first put it in place, it had the support of more than 90% of the American public. We like to come up with new names for the concentration camp system, but its popularity only wanes temporarily from time to time, at a basic level the public is in love with the idea as long as it is packaged for them as a novel and justified form of punishment. When it comes down to it, we are a people terrified of crime and cultural pollution, and our driving desire is to see them "cleaned up" and "put away" somewhere out of sight, with as few questions asked as possible. At least until some asshole journalist or the example of a foreign dictator forces us to look at what we've done.

We don't even speak of the Italians.

Honestly, I don't think there is any comparison to the concentration camps in WWII America as what we are doing now. At least there was fear back in the 40s.

What Trump is doing is fueled by nothing but inexcusable hate driven anger and rage, at best. And some people seem to actually enjoy this is happening.

Europe lost a generation. The British, Germans, Russians, Italians, and all of the territories that were then part of the Austro-Hungarian and Ottoman Empires suffered horribly, from 1914 to 1918.

The Americans fought a couple of battles on the Western Front in 1918, having waited until it was clear who would win, before joining in on the victorious side in order to claim a place at the table when the spoils were being divided.

Trump had a very bad day in court yesterday.

First, one court determined Trump has absolutely no right at all to impose tariffs on any other country by his own whims.

Another court determined his use of the Alien Enemies act under these circumstances, basically because we are not at war, is a violation of law.

I'm sure he will respond with either a tantrum or :lalala:

Missed opportunity. Should have called it the Völkischer Beobachter.
