I have nothing against Jews in general. I knew someone who converted when he married a Jew, I have known Jews. They can be quite friendly, accepting, and gregarious.

I grew up in integrated public housing in the 50s 60s with black neighbors and kids.


I was speaking in the context of NR's pushing a global Judaism, suggesting he convert to Judaism.

Orwell here touches on the key issues of contemporary philosophy: Christianity and Marxism. He is correct to see them as related, but he does not clearly understand their relationship. The fact is that both Christianity and Marxism are children of Judaism. On the specific question he raises about life after death, all that is necessary is to understand this from the Jewish position, namely, that eternal life is a property of the Jewish people as a whole, and the individual shares in eternal life to the extent that he identifies with the Jewish people as a whole.

I found Viennese and Cambodians to be open and social. Older Chinese who grew up in Chinese culture are more circumspect and socially closed. It can take a hie to build a relationship.

In Chin own there are stores where if you are not Chinese you can be ignored or get served last.

If you are an armchair liberal ride around on busses for a day in a city like Chicago, Seattle, or La and sit next to those not like you and strkie up a conversation, see what happens.

My views on people and culture come from experience starting when I was a kid. There was racism in my family, in particular two uncles. Fortunately my father was not. His blue collar view was anyone who went out and worked was ok. My sisters bay sat for the black familynext door.

A black guy in my building was in China during Tiananmen Square with his father in law a college teacher. He calls China the most racist country in the world.

On a recent NPR show on China an intervene with a black African who chose to go to China for school. He thought he would fare better socially than in America. He too saw China as racist.

Of course not all Chinese are racist and parochial, but all cultures have bias and prejudice.

In the 70s I knew a Jewish woman who married a Catholic. I knew her parents and they had no p[rblem. Some in her extedd family treated her as a non perosn.

Italiann cuture in re USA can have pressure to marry withn the group.

I knew a woman about 6 years ago who came here from Peru as a teen. She married a black guy. Her family had no problem. The guy's black family opposed the marriage. Once married his family had n nothing to do with them.

If you were around blacks long enough you would hear some of the same racial slurs you would hear from whites. Antisemitism. Homophobia.

Same with Latinos.

It seems that growing up poor, and greatly disadvantaged by double minority status, but turning turnips into tulips and getting a degree anyway, then spending twelve years working in the community college system, spending every free minute working with people from all walks of life albeit mostly poor ones, doing outreach to the prison system, cold calling folks during election season, etc has taught me absolutely nothing about society, apparently!

Because I also got an advanced degree during that time, which means I live in an "ivory tower" and know nothing compared to Steve. The only true knowledge comes from watching CNN, occasionally walking to the grocery store, almost remembering an anecdote you heard once, and sort of knowing a Black guy who lives in your building. No really, a retired middle class white guy on the internet told me so. People really believe this kind of bullshit!
