What TV are you watching and how would you rate it? [Revive from FRDB]

Oh, that one was a 9/10 for me, I absolutely loved it! Patti Lupone, Kathryn Hahn, and Joe Locke are just a joy to watch. Probably one too many Pagan in jokes for your average viewer though, I'm kind of surprised it got produced at all.

Grotesquery

An FX series about an alcoholic police captain trying to solve and catch a serial killer who cuts up and arranges the bodies in a quite grotesque manner, reminiscent of Catholic teaching.

Long on the police captain's problems and short on actual crime investigation.

I'm two and a half episodes in and I think I've had enough. Maybe it'll get better. Maybe the creepy Catholic priest is the real killer. But I'll never find out.

5/10

Se7en did it much better.

Kevin Can Go F**k Himself

I'd never heard of this series until yesterday. I gave it a shot and ended up binge watching the first six episodes. The only reason I didn't watch more is because I want it to last.

The main character partially lives in a sitcom world, which has all the same elements of something like Everybody Loves Raymond.

While in sitcom world, the show is shot the way most sitcoms are. The colors are bright, the characters are ridiculous, and there's a laugh track. Then, when the main character leaves the sitcom world, the lighting changes, the color changes----her world is gritty and real. What's especially interesting is that it shows how horribly abusive sitcom characters would be if put in a realistic light.

Prior to yesterday I'd never given this concept a single thought. The show is really engrossing, which makes it difficult to understand why it received so little support from Netflix. The only nitpick I have is that the pacing is a tad uneven, but it's a small criticism.

9/10

Everybody Loves Raymond.
Oh, I've noticed quite often how Raymond's wife actually responds to him with violence.

I wonder what would be thought of the show if the roles were reversed.
I don't want to give spoilers away, but I encourage you watch the show.

But in a traditional sitcom where physical violence were to be used against the wife? Yeah, that wouldn't go over very well at all.

Maniac

I'm not quite sure where it's going with it's story, but it's a weird, fun, yet somewhat disturbing watch. So far though, after four episodes, I'm really enjoying it.

Briefly, it's a sci-fi based show about fucked up people volunteering for futuristic pharmaceutical experiments that seem to also have a new age woo element. There are lots interesting twists and turns that make you wonder just what in the hell is going on.

Is that for me cuz I already watch it?
