What Would Happen if Trump Refused to Leave Office?

You don't think a woman can be president?

Not this year unless both Dirty Don and Mannequin Mike manage to croak at the same time from Trumpvirus or something. Nice as that might be, I don't believe it's going to happen. Maybe next year, if Sleepy Joe picks one for his running mate.
You think a woman can be President today?
How stupid.

'I Have to See.' President Trump Refuses to Say If He Will Accept the 2020 Election Results

I'll just leave this right here - not that it will shake Jason's faith in the upstanding character of the orange clown.
Maybe Jason can explain why someone who was planning to accept the election results would say this... after forming and fielding a Secret Police unit to test the waters and see if his Republican enablers would go along with the schtick. (they did)

Fragilego Mussolini, his minions, and his base have been hammering the idea that the election is going to be fraudulent. The polls are "fake," voting by mail is evil, the Democrats have millions of illegal immigrants voting, etc. etc. etc.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that not only will he NOT accept the results, but the wider the margin of victory is for Biden, the louder Trump will whine. The only thing that remains to be seen is how hard he will fight legally to stay in the White House.

  • President refuses to say whether he will accept election result

Joe Biden leads Donald Trump by 15% among registered voters nationally and holds a 20-point lead when it comes to who Americans trust to handle the coronavirus pandemic, according to a major poll out on Sunday.

In the same ABC News/Washington Post poll, Biden led by two points in March and 10 points in May. Now, among respondents who said they will certainly vote in November, Biden leads by 11%.

Fox News also released a poll on Sunday. It put Biden ahead on coronavirus, race relations and the economy and eight points up nationally.

The same Fox News poll showed that when asked if Biden and Trump had the mental soundness to serve as president, 47% of respondents said Biden did and 43% said Trump did.

More were certain Trump did not (51%) than Biden (39%).

Y'mean you're not swallowing Jason's line that he will calmly walk away when he loses? Quelle surprise!

The only thing that remains to be seen is how hard he will fight legally to stay in the White House.

Legally? Since when does the Trump Crime Family do anything legally?

WASHINGTON — On the second Friday in June, a group of political operatives, former government and military officials, and academics quietly convened online for what became a disturbing exercise in the fragility of American democracy.
The group, which included Democrats and Republicans, gathered to game out possible results of the November election, grappling with questions that seem less far-fetched by the day: What if President Trump refuses to concede a loss, as he publicly hinted recently he might do? How far could he go to preserve his power? And what if Democrats refuse to give in?
“All of our scenarios ended in both street-level violence and political impasse,” said Rosa Brooks, a Georgetown law professor and former Defense Department official who co-organized the group known as the Transition Integrity Project. She described what they found in bleak terms: “The law is essentially ... it’s almost helpless against a president who’s willing to ignore it.”
...
The very existence of a group like this one, which was formed late last year, underscores the extent of the fear in Washington’s political circles — and beyond — that Trump will take the same hammer he has used to fracture the norms of executive governance over the past three years and upend the nation’s delicate tradition of orderly political transitions of power by refusing to concede if he loses.
...

-----------------

Add in anger at voter disenfranchisement, discouragement, caging, dirty tricks, and voting irregularities, and we may have a reaction from people thinking Trump is trying to steal and election. Hang on tight, this could be an interesting election.

You people seriously discuss this nonsense? Trump has no true allies to have even remote chance of pulling it off. Secret Service would put him into a Van and drive him to Pelosi basement for a talk the moment he express such a desire. And it's doubtful he himself wants to do it, he merely says what he thinks his base wants him to say.

Trump’s assault on election integrity forces question: What would happen if he refused to accept a loss? - The Washington Post
President Trump’s relentless efforts to sow doubts about the legitimacy of this year’s election are forcing both parties to reckon with the possibility that he may dispute the result in November if he loses — leading to an unprecedented test of American democracy.

With less than four months before the election, Trump’s escalating attacks on the security of mail-in ballots and his refusal again this week to reassure the country that he would abide by the voters’ will have added urgency to long-simmering concerns among scholars and his critics about the lengths he could go to hold on to power.

“What the president is doing is willfully and wantonly undermining confidence in the most basic democratic process we have,” said William A. Galston, chair of the Brookings Institution’s Governance Studies Program. “Words almost fail me — it’s so deeply irresponsible. He’s arousing his core supporters for a truly damaging crisis in the days and weeks after the November election.”

... Trump has previously said he offers up inflammatory ideas to provoke the media and his critics.
So he claims that he is trolling. What a disgrace of a president. He deserves the 25th Amendment.
But his unwillingness to commit to a smooth transition of power has forced academics and political leaders — including, privately, some GOP lawmakers — to contemplate possible scenarios.

...
He could also spend weeks refusing to concede amid a legal war over which votes are valid and should be included in the tally, according to legal and constitutional experts who are tracking Trump’s statements.

Or he could simply refuse to leave on Jan. 20 — a possibility Biden has discussed publicly.

“This president is going to try to steal this election,” the presumptive Democratic nominee told Trevor Noah of “The Daily Show” last month.

Biden said he is convinced that if Trump loses but won’t leave, military leaders “will escort him from the White House with great dispatch.”
They should ship him off to The Hague for trial for crimes against humanity.

Uh, no , they didn't. We're well past that.

Good point bringing up Pelosi. He fears her more than anyone else in the country. Schumer he just hates, but he is genuinely afraid of Pelosi.

He has not lost elections yet, so no, we are not past that.

He has, however, expressed the desire. And no one has done a damn thing about it, except to bitch to the press, which is to say, nothing.

It's not going to stay 40% to 51% for a solid 99 days. It'll tighten up -- at least, all recent elections have. The last month will be a crazed get-out-the-vote elephant stampede on Trump's side -- one part Klan rally, one part revival meeting, one part Mar-a-Lago sauna orgy. Trump's ads are already agleam with paranoia; can't imagine how nutty the final mudslide of DJT-approved rants will be. Biden might want to keep a statistical roll of covid death totals running at the bottom of his ads.

Klan revival orgy? Count me in!
:hysterical:

We are starting to see how Trump will attempt to remain in office... Federal police force deployed to places that "have violence".. Trump's SS. I don;t expect to see any in my open carry state full of libertarians that have been "prepping" their entire lives for this... with piles of assault rifles, etc..

If it comes to that... how ya'll like the second amendment NOW!?

The threat against the Second Amendment was always a paranoid fantasy anyway...

You see now how the powers that be in American politics actually benefit from the population being armed to the teeth. It's always been much easier to shoot your neighbor than your Senator.
