Just saw A House of Dynamite, about the launching of a nuclear missile at the U.S. Highly recommended. The ending caught me completely off guard and was perfect.

It's funny. The older we get, the more we appreciate good storytelling and suspense in film. The kids OTOH, hated this movie because

I did see this year’s Superman and it is rollicking good fun, a comic book brought to the big screen. Saw the first two Supes movies with Christopher Reeve and a couple of Batman movies, but that is it for this genre.

Jeebus Christ, that movie. I have seen it before.

I like to think of it as a social commentary movie on class disparities in the depths of the Depression. There are other ways to think of it too.

It looks like a serious horror flick. But IMDB doesn't have a listing for it.
Has anyone seen it? Is it a spoof? There is nothing funny about the trailer.

I did see this year’s Superman and it is rollicking good fun, a comic book brought to the big screen. Saw the first two Supes movies with Christopher Reeve and a couple of Batman movies, but that is it for this genre.

I'm a crotchety old bastard now, so I'm gonna give a crotchety old bastard opinion.

The kids need too much shallow stimulation. BOOM! POW! etc. They don't appreciate good dialogue and writing (see the limited series Midnight Mass). They aren't willing to be patient enough for subtle character development and arcs. If it ain't a predictable comic book character or some other already known (and predictable) commodity, they're not interested.

A movie like Poor Things is derided as being for "pedos" and no sex scene ever has an appropriate place in movies. It's as if they have an accute 1980s conservative infection.

No patience, no appreciation for craft, as deep as dinner plates.

I'm now done with my sweeping generalities tirade.

Fantastic 4 (2025)
Disapointing. Recycled plot from last FF movie. Silver Surfer/Galactus.
Set on a parallel earth, In a futuristic 1960. So has a campy vibe. Not even fathful to the 1960s comic. More like a 1950s B movie idea of the future. Counter to the realism/believability that made the Marvel Studios.
Watchable, but I give it 5/10

I’m also a bit tired of the “warrior alien” trope. Advanced alien cultures are going to be more diverse and complex than the “everyone fights for honor” nonsense that’s affected the genre since at least the Klingons, and it’s boring and makes those aliens into one dimensional characters. Stop it.

I think he's missing the point. These kinds of alien cultures are derived from propaganda stereotypes of our WWII enemy, a cultural slur considered by Hollywood to be too useful and entertaining to discard on the mere basis that it is horribly racist.
