Which movie did you watch today and how would you rate it?

The Suicide Squad

IMO, this is the best superhero flick made in the last 6-7 years. It's funny, unpredictable, and has a lot of heart. There's a lot of splatter gore, but it's all in good fun. It also doesn't take itself seriously, which really adds to its watchability. I'd seen it before, but it had been a long time. It still holds up really well.

I do this for you people. I take the risk of watching shitty movies so that you don't have to and I never get a word of thanks.

This is a low budget, poorly acted, poorly written, poorly filmed abomination that looks like someone's dad gave them some money for a community college introductory film school project.

Had this exact same movie been made in 1991, it would've been on MST3K's shortlist.

You're welcome.

Attack of the Giant Leeches, 1959. Did the fast forward up to each leech scene, the effects were all I wanted to see. They did fake dynamite a leech pond and there was a wet t-shirt scene that got by the sensors.

Rate: The effects were what I expected, good for a laugh, thing from my youth.

I saw that a few years back. Sorta fun and campy. I just now read about the hot actress (Yvette Vickers) in the movie. She was Playboy Playmate of the Month in July 1959. Fast forward to 2011 when she was found dead in her house by her neighbor. Forensic scientists estimated she may have been dead as long as a year before she was discovered. Must be a little weird to be on top of the world one minute only to end up a forgotten nobody later on.

Obsession
I made it to bodily fluids on the living room rug.
This is not entertainment.
Definitely NSFCL
I've still got a few hours left on my rental. Maybe I'll try and finish it.
My wife put this one on her want to watch list. Am I in trouble?

As I reflect upon my eight years of marriage in the nineties, I would say, do your duty without complaint.

It's the best horror movie of the year and it's an excellent movie regardless of genre.

Mother Mary

A famous singer/pop idol returns to her original wardrobe designer for a new dress. They have a rocky history and things supernatural may or may not ensue.

Man, Anne Hathaway can weep. I actually asked Google if someone can suffer dehydration from crying too much in a day. The answer was no, but I was still worried about Ms. Hathaway's electrolyte levels.

Anyway, it starts off promising but just kind of fizzles out. Both of the main characters are rich and famous and the only things at stake are their relationship and Hathaway's fame. The thing about the relationship is that neither need each other; they'll be fine either way. As for Hathaway's character's fame, it's hard to feel that much sympathy for someone whose life is still going to be worry-free when it comes to things financial regardless of the movie's eventual outcome.

This movie is truly an example of Rich People Problems.

The flick serves as a metaphor for all kinds of things, but they're not done well and they're too on the nose.

See it or not.

The Imitation Game - A wonderfully fictional portrayal about Alan Turing. 3.5 of 4 for drama, 0.5 of 4 for accuracy. The Goes Wrong Show's episode The Pilot, Not The Pilot was almost as accurate.

The following are the accurate portrayals in the film:
  • Alan Turing existed and was a brilliant mathematician, he was also gay
  • There was a "WWII" and "Germany" were the bad guys
  • Alan Turing was involved with trying to break enigma
That is about it. There should be a law that requires close to completely fictional historic fictional dramas to have a documentary included as a parallel release or maybe a subtitled/secondary track that follows the film and notes when stuff is exaggerated, made up, or completely bullshit.

The History Channel sometimes trys to cash in on recent movies by running relevant documentaries. I wouldn't be surprised if they were running a doc on Turing now.

For all those "Hanoi Jane" people STFU!!
Meh, her behaviour in Vietnam had bugger-all long term impact on anything, regardless of whether any of the rumours or allegations had the slightest relationship with reality.

She is, however, likely the single individual most responsible for climate change.

The only mitigating circumstances are her abject ignorance and best intentions, but to me that's not a sufficient excuse.
