Who will win the Democratic nomination for president?

Who will win the 2020 Democratic nomination?

  • Total voters
    20
  • Poll closed .
I think both Klobuchar and Pete are on their way out shortly, with Warren not far behind them. It will come down to Biden and Bernie, with Yang still on the stage but with no path forward, there just to push his policies, which Biden/Bernie will eventually somewhat incorporate into their own.

Bloomberg will also remain in the picture but after a few months will drop out and put his money behind Biden. Which will likely make Biden the winner, though Bernie may make it very close (or even take it; one can hope).

It will be interesting to see what stance Warren takes after she is out. Will she back Bernie and the progressive base she has been pandering to or will she turn around and back Biden in hope of an appointment to his administration? The latter may not be a bad thing, as she may be a progressive voice in his ear.

Klobuchar and Warren are two very different candidates. So why those two? I think that the "equipment" the editorial board most had in mind when endorsing those two is their genitals.

I don't think it's their genitals. They have been pushing for Klobuchar for a while now and Warren is not-Bernie. If something were to happen to Biden, and if Bernie surges even more than he now is, expect the establishment Democrats to suddenly proclaim their love for Warren.

Opinion | Amy Klobuchar and Elizabeth Warren Are Democrats' Top Choices for President

There will be those dissatisfied that this page is not throwing its weight behind a single candidate, favoring centrists or progressives. But it’s a fight the party itself has been itching to have since Mrs. Clinton’s defeat in 2016, and one that should be played out in the public arena and in the privacy of the voting booth. That’s the very purpose of primaries, to test-market strategies and ideas that can galvanize and inspire the country.

Ms. Klobuchar and Ms. Warren right now are the Democrats best equipped to lead that debate.

Klobuchar represents Minnesota... in the Midwest... where Clinton lost the election. Toss that together with her experience both in and outside of DC, and she does check a lot of boxes for a good candidate. This is obvious. That someone needs to make this about gender seems really dumb.

Hillary narrowly (46.44% - 44.92%) won Minnesota actually.

I did not say she doesn't.

When a newspaper endorses two candidates who happen to be the two women still running, it's certainly not dumb to think that gender played a role in the dual endorsement.

Or Bloomberg. :)

I think both Klobuchar and Pete are on their way out shortly, with Warren not far behind them.
Unless Klobuchar breaks into top 3 in Iowa, she will drop out. Iowa is a neighboring state and her best chance of all the early states to get a breakout result. I think top 3 is Mayor Pete's threshold for dropping out too. If he makes it in top 3, he will linger at least until New Hampshire. And if he still has money, he might even survive a 4th place finish until NH.

For Warren I think 4th place is definitely enough for her to try to use New Hampshire (a neighboring state to Massachusetts) as do or die.

It will come down to Biden and Bernie, with Yang still on the stage but with no path forward, there just to push his policies, which Biden/Bernie will eventually somewhat incorporate into their own.
I think this is the likeliest scenario after Iowa and NH.

Bloomberg will also remain in the picture but after a few months will drop out and put his money behind Biden. Which will likely make Biden the winner, though Bernie may make it very close (or even take it; one can hope).
Bloomberg is in the wings should Biden stumble. In that case, he is likely to take almost all of Biden's early states delegates in a hypothetical 2nd round of convention voting. But if Biden doesn't stumble, you are right.

Will she back Bernie and the progressive base she has been pandering to or will she turn around and back Biden in hope of an appointment to his administration? Well she already betrayed Bernie once, so I am guessing the latter.

Brains larger than egos, and a nice depth of experience.
You don't think those two don't have large egos?
What special equipment do any of the other remaining candidates have that these two do not ? is a better question, although not one that needs to be asked because sever all know that the default qualifications, the ones that must be bested are a set of testivles and penis
I do not think those are "default qualifications" but neither should ovaries and a vagina be one. I think there is a huge contingent on the feminist left that wants to have a female president yesterday.

plus low melanin content/vast majority of ancestry originating in Europe. We’ve had exactly one successful candidate who overcame one of these to win POTUS.
Both Warren and Klobuchar have so little melanin, they are practically translucent. :)

Both Warren and Klobuchar are well regarded, experienced Senators who have reputations for being smart, working very hard and for working well with others to accomplish goals.
Warren is a sort of Bernie light plus identity politics.
Klobuchar is a well regarded senator, but I do not see what recommends her over say Michael Bennet. Neither are doing too well in polls, but one is being elevated on strength of her gender I think. She also wants federal government to go after porn, and as an avid porn connoisseur that is a deal breaker for me.

Pete may someday be a good candidate but I don’t think he’s there yet.
True. He could run in 2028 while still in his 40s and hopefully a beefier resume.

Bernie and Biden are too old.
So is Warren, realistically.

The others lack relevant experience (so does Pete, IMO).
You could say that of Yang. He would be a good running mate though.
But Bloomberg ran a city will significantly more people than the entire State of Minnesota. Furthermore, he has executive experience.
Who else is left? Steyer? I don't think he is getting any traction anyway.

No, you don't.

WTF Warren betrayed Bernie. When do you think that happened?

Hardly a betrayal of BERNIE.

She endorsed the candidate who was more likely to win and more likely to accomplish anything at all.

That's not how Bernie supporters took it.

Bernie bros take anything other than full throated endorsement of Bernie for Lifetime appointment as POTUS (and let's face it: a life time appointment for Bernie might mean he doesn't make it to inauguration) as betrayal.

Bernie and his supporters deserve each other. But imo, the country deserves far better.

Quit trying to speak for all supporters of Bernie. You have a very warped view, but then, par for the course, I guess.

THIS Bernie supporter happens to think that you DON'T have to like him. I'd vote for Biden, just like I voted for Hillary, but I sure as hell wouldn't drop her name into the box for a primary, same as I wouldn't primary for Biden. But that's why we HAVE primaries: to engage a discussion on who merits candidacy.

I think you are shortsighted, sure; anyone who would support someone who is only a candidate because he rode in on another president's coat-tails, who was only there because they were the most conservative name they could find with a D attached to it for the purpose of attracting the Boomer vote, isn't exactly playing with a full deck in my mind. But that isn't a betrayal. It's just sad.

Personally, I vote (and get kind of excited) for candidates who start with a strong set of well reasoned principles and then work their way out from there. There's something to be said about someone who lives their whole life without letting the world beat the edges of principle and idealism away. There's something wholesome about a person who has resisted having their ethics leeched away from them like denuded soil under an erosive sky, as the soil under a tree on an otherwise barren desert plain.

I don't like everything the man stands for, but at least he stands for it. It's more than anyone could ever say for Clinton, who derived her views from tired focus groups,.and far more than anyone could say for Biden, who might as easily have stepped from a time machine circa 1970.

I.dont feel angry. I don't feel betrayed. I just feel disappointed that you can't see that Biden is less a Chicken Tender and more a Chicken McNugget.

I don't think he was speaking for all Bernie supporters. He specifically said "Bernie Bros", which has already been clearly established as a subset.
