Why people are afraid of universal health care

Luigi Mangione
Worth watching the short video. Mangione verifying he did it for the reason most of us thought he did. "These parasites had it coming."
You are a necessary hero in my book.
And the fact is, it's not the cost of healthcare even... It's that even when something happens, companies like UHC fight tooth and nail to deny claims.

On the other hand, I saw a piece of really great advice on Reddit today:

When you have a declined coverage, ask ALL medical documentation for the doctor declining. Ask for proof of their qualifications in that branch of medicine, proof of their license in the state in which you live, evidence of ongoing education requirements being satisfied... Apparently most insurance companies cut corners and most states have laws protecting a right to at least some, of not all of that information about qualifications and regulations, and it's your right to ask.

Most companies will, rather than giving you evidence of their illegal activities, just approve the claim.

I don't understand. Ask insurance company for documentation on doctor that they decline to pay?

Another victim of insane health care system?
I am surprised the guy was walking without a bunch of bodyguards and in bulletproof something everything.
Being assassinated by pissed off "customer" has to be an occupational hazard for medical insurance people.
Insanity of our insurance system or not, life expectancy in the US is significantly higher than in Russia. Especially for the wealthy. Despite the epidemic of gun violence. Maybe because fewer people in the US die from falling from a window or from deliberate poisoning.
You compensate russian accidental falls statistics with fentanyl 1000 times over.
Fentanyl? The real killer is alcohol. And tobacco.
Yabut we’re used to tobacco and alcohol and everyone’s already addicted to them. How big a fuss do you want to make? Plus, do you really want drunken junkies running around smoking irresponsibly? We need to come down hard on fentanyl.

Lets ban alcohol and tobacco, fine with me. it's just compared to Fentanyl they kill slowly and later in life and less disgustingly.

I think every US citizen should watch this and answer this question:
Did I know that insurance + taxes etc. costs are cheaper in other countries? Especially in the "socialistic leaning countries"? And that the treatment etc. is better for your family?
The video is made by an American:

If any questions - I will answer with facts and links (about the system in Finland). The guy who made the video, missed still a lot.

I will say that I, as an American, have not experienced needing to beg my insurance company to cover my medical needs.*

But so much is dependent upon what kind of insurance you have —and who your medical providers are. We are fortunate to live in an area where we have access at an excellent health care system whose focus is on meeting the needs of the patient. We have found the care to be excellent, and well coordinated, so that if you have multiple needs or follow up care, it is very well and very efficiently coordinated to provide excellent care that is as convenient as possible.

Now, I had enough life and experience behind me that we ALWAYS pick the most comprehensive ( and most expensive) insurance plan offered by our employers, something that I watched co-workers refuse to do, even when they KNEW that they had a surgery coming up—and then they complained about the copays, which more than wiped out the savings from cheaper monthly costs. Which was absolutely predictable.

People do not always make good choices. But unfortunately many many people don’t have good options from which to choose.

I know I harp on this a lot but it is only to demonstrate that it is entirely possible to have excellent insurance coverage and excellent medical care even in and perhaps especially in flyover country.

*Except in the bad old days when insurance companies did everything in their power to deny ob-gyn care coverage and we paid the entire cost of prenatal care and labor and delivery and hospital for our first born—totalling more than 30% of our very meager income. In part this was due to the doctor insisting my due date was earlier than it was, making the pregnancy a pre-existing condition. Which it was not but too bad for us.

A sad story. Too close to what my wife has gone through for the last year.
Anyhow, when his next renewal time rolls around maybe he should feed the OTHER billionaire and buy some fentanyl on the street?
IMHO there are good people embedded in the healthcare sector top to bottom.
But there's little wrong with Luigi's lament. It's just ... what he chose to do about it is only going to make costs go up for people like Luigi, for CEOs' "security". It is unlikely to modify ANYTHING on the delivery end of the HC system. :(
On one hand it really sucks because it's so much worse and inaccessible than it could be. But on the other, it's so much better than it used to be.
The medtech has advanced significantly, from imaging and diagnosis through treatment and outcome, it makes the 1950s look relatively barbaric.
Anyhow, my advice is if you can track down a billionaire, don't kill them, just take their money :)
(They feel dead without it, anyhow)

Americans have low literacy rates. IOW we're easily fooled because we're not interested in facts and knowledge. Not sure why that's so prevalent but it explains things like religiosity and demonizing socialism. The result is that the average American likes giving away his personal wealth to those wealthier than himself. Go figure.

Let's get real: They don't actually have feelings other than entitlement. But they couldn't survive without all of their money.

Sadly, any reference to "socialism" causes an auto-reboot in MAGA conservatives' brains.

Minor quibble. "Their" money? Maybe you mean their stolen money.
It's not theft. It's gratuity, agreed upon by the 'Murkin public when they let Republicans lower top marginal tax rates by 2/3, allow unlimited untraceable spending on elections by billionaires and the PACs and Companies they control, foreign dark entities - anyone who has a buck they can get an American politico to accept... it's all free speech.
We stand by, just waiting for a Donald Trump to make it official; you got the money, you are the power and the law.
The frogs wanted a king.

Astonishing why there have not been many more cases than this over the last four violent, self-serving years. Supposedly Mangione's note:
I don't know what is specific about the last four years in these regards but to Mangione's letter, can anyone disagree with him? We all know this to be true, these actions by not just health insurers but others, to maximize profit without concern for the repercussions of their actions.
That others have not repeated such violence is due to his careful planning. It takes time to do what he did. Most would just act out of anger and harm some poor innocent in the wrong place at the wrong time. He was meticulous through his act and escape, and this from NYC, not some smaller city with limited resources. That he had so much of the evidence with him when caught and he sat in a McDonald's shows at this point he simply did not care, he welcomed being caught.

The critical mistake people make is to project their own character traits upon these terrible and powerful individuals. They do not care. They are no better than one who would torture others in a prison cell. They see us only as a commodity like any other to be exploited as efficiently and thoroughly as possible. And our elected officials allow them to do so with impunity. For they do not care either. When a classroom full of kindergartners can be shot up and no legislation comes of it, they are screaming at us that they do not care.

I did not mention provenance of the money.

We can rightly complain about the Bushs’ terms and damage done and none of us will ever forget the horror of Trump’s first term ( soon to be made minuscule by his second) but this started with Reagan.

How?

A million dollars fits comfortably in a briefcase, as long as it's in large denominations. Even in 5s 10s and 20s, you can easily fit a million in a wheelbarrow.

But a billion is going to be pretty large - even in 100s, it will fill a full sized 40' shipping container - and hundreds of billions is going to need a fleet of semi-trailers to shift.

Those volumes are for used (circulated) bills; Brand new bills from the mint occupy a lot less room, and you might fit six billion in 100s into a single 40' container. You won't be able to move it, though, as it would be about a hundred times the mass limit for a standard shipping container. So you still need a fleet of trucks. Bulk paper is heavy.

I presume that folks like Elon Musk employ someone to crumple up the bills, so that they pack loosely into an enormous warehouse, in which they can swim like Scrooge McDuck. I mean, what would the point be otherwise?

I have been lucky so far that I have not been a victim of big insurance. But, the last time I had insurance though work was like the year 2000!
Four months after I got Medicare, I needed a CABG-4. No big problems. Now I have UHC Advantage. So, I have mixed feelings about this killing.
If I wanted to be a martyr, I would have just mugged him and told him he and his fellow CEOs are not safe anymore.
Oh, eggs were $4.99 today but were covered by my Advantage card!
