Mar-a-Largo raided by FBI?

If Trump wants to claim that those documents were declassified by him, then the news media should be able to publish them and Congressional committees should be able to get copies of them.
He released a statement saying that basically, if he took homework out of the office, it was automatically declassified. Cue the "that's not how this works" meme...

You can't take materials out of a SCIF without going through a process to get them released. Maybe he was able to do that when he was president, but I suspect he never bothered to listen to any instructions on how to handle classified documents. He has the attention span of a gnat, and he felt that the president could do anything he wanted without having to bother with all of the details. He used to fire people and appoint them to positions by just announcing it publicly. I guess he thought everything would get done properly in the background by people who were supposed to do things.

HUSH your mouth! You know that Breitbart and Faux and maybe even WSJ are slavering over the chance to get the first headline.

If Trump did do some bad things he would have learned it well from his political predecessors.
IF???
That fucker has been doing “wrong” for decades before he was ever in politics. Your ignorance of the man is profound. But unfortunately common.
Then please enlighten my ingnorance. When it comes to spending actual jail time in the cell, what really is the difference between Trump and Hillary? You can claim Trump is in trouble all the time (and he is) but actually being convicted of anything criminal has not happened (at least to my knowledge).

Either Trump is not really as "wrong" as you believe or he is at least as skillful as Hillary is at keeping himself out of jail.

And what, pray, is Hillary supposed to be in jail for, that she was so skillful at keeping herself out of it?
Come on Man! If hosting kid sex parties in a basement so that aliens from the planet Chestrarth IV isn't a crime deserving of jail time, then no crime deserves jail time.
Compare/contrast: attending kid sex parties on a private island that actually exists and has been documented.
Both y'all's talking about Trump, right?

Any explanation for WHY Trump committed this crime? Is it simply that he is the sort of moronic bully for whom purposeless crimes are an end in themselves — just to brag that he's above the law and can thumb his nose at prosecutors and judges?

Having held on to the documents illegally for over 18 months, presumably he's had time to go through them, to find nuclear secrets his friend Putin might like, or whatever. The value of such intelligence tends to decline rapidly with time, so any documents like that have long since been photoed and sold or hid.

Or maybe he just had a vague idea that miscellaneous secret documents would have cash value if donations dry up. I've heard — though it seems like exaggeration — that when IBM and another big company do cross-licensing agreements, they bring in boxes with many thousands of patents and weight them! "We've got 10 kilos of patents." "We've got 13 kilos. You throw in a million dollars and we'll call it even." Remember auctions where unopened suitcases or lockers were sold? What's the going rate, among Trump's international mafia friends, for One 10-kilo box of U.S. secret documents, miscellaneous ?

He's a bully, acts like a mobster, and does very much feel he's above the law, but he's not entirely moronic. I don't for a moment think he had the literacy available to read through these documents or understand entirely what he had (he couldn't read his PDB because it was too hard) but I do think he knows they give him leverage. I think he's probably had trusted and loyal (and smarter) advisors look through them. His son in law comes to mind. We don't know the contents of the most sensitive documents and likely never will, but he knew enough that they might give him bargaining chips with foreign leaders he wanted to curry favor with. Being out of the White House, he lost an enormous amount of power, and classified information would give him at least some of that power back. Did Jared get 2 billion dollars in exchange for something they sold to the Saudis? Have any intelligence assets been compromised because he let some of his "guests" see the documents? A great deal of intelligence is based upon sources and methods. Did he reveal any of these to the Russians? The Chinese? That could be an area where serious damage could have been done.

Let's say a Chinese "businessman" got a gander at not what our intelligence services do, but how they do it. That would be immensely valuable to them. Would it be monetary value? We do know that Trump loves him some Quid Pro Quo, so there's that possibility. Whether it was straight up money or realizing that long-stymied dream of Trump Tower Moscow remains to be seen.

I worry that there could be a long list of CIA/NSA agents in there that may have been released to Russia, the Saudis, or other foreign agencies that would pose a real threat to them.

....and that's one of the main reasons I turned down the CIA when they tried to recruit me back in 2017. This orange asshole was president at the time.

Apparently some of the documents are classified TS/SCI, which means you shouldn’t even be able to see them unless you are in a room designed for viewing secret documents. So leaving Them in a store room by the pool doesn’t cut it

Yes, I've held a security clearance and have had to deal with that problem before. The room you are talking about is called a SCIF ( Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility). They can be a real pain because of all the rules. Trump actually had one of those installed at Mar-a-Lago, but it was probably decomissioned when he left office, and he has since been denied security clearances by Biden. It turns out that Biden was fully justified in denying this former president his clearances. The Top Secret and other classified materials were not stored and secured properly for the year and a half that they have been at Mar-a-Lago. Plenty of time for foreign intelligence agents to get at them, since Mar-a-Lago is basically a resort club with lots of visitors. And Trump has been known to pal around with Russians connected to their intelligence agencies.

There was that Chinese spy incident there.

Trump has too great gifts, neither of which I understand how they remain effective. His first gift is in being able to convince vast numbers of people that he is some kind of messiah whom they should follow into the bowls of the earth (and take the planet with him straight to hell, convinced it is heaven.

The other is to enable otherwise intelligent, even canny people that he isn't as venal and corrupt as he actually is. He outwits them by doing something so outrageously stupid and so far outside the normal rules and regulations and protocols that people, for whom laws, rules, protocols matter do not even conceive of the possibility that he will do whatever outrageous and traitorous thing he is actually doing. I never understood why there were not officials from the National Archives/SS/FBI and any other regulatory or law enforcement bureau present for the packing of the White House and residence when Trump et al vacated. There actually WAS an outcry when it appeared that some public property was being removed, appeared to be visible in boxes being carried out. His firing White House staff as he exited, in order to make transition more difficult for his successor on the face of it was cruel and unwarranted treatment of professionals who had served him and his family and so deliberately and childishly rude to the next occupants that the outrageously rude behavior (for those of us who thought it was outrageous) was the focus, I'm not certain anyone actually considered that the staff was fired because they were witness to what was being stolen. I sincerely hope in the days since that they have all been extensively interviewed.

Trump is a side show charlatan who is well able to manipulate the public by outrageously distracting from the true criminality that he is committing.

Yabut … bingozzy, buttery males … lockerup …

I’m sincerely hoping that the amount of pressure and disgrace he is experiencing will inspire him to cease and desist breathing.

Trump will come out of this just fine. He declassified the documents the FBI planted. :cheeky:

Reactions: jab
Right-wingers are acting like they've found some police that they want to defund.

Cracks emerge in GOP’s Mar-a-Lago response
What they're saying: Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) called the search a "complete abuse," suggesting it was because Trump is "Joe Biden's most likeliest political opponent in 2024." Other members re-litigated past grievances against the FBI over Russiagate, the 2017 Congressional Baseball shooting and the Hillary Clinton email scandal.

“You can say nuclear weapons, but there are things that are highly, highly classified, there are things that are not extremely classified," ranking member Mike Turner (R-Ohio) said.

After the search, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) began calling to "defund the FBI," and Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) tweeted: "I will support a complete dismantling and elimination of the democrat brown shirts known as the FBI."

The other side: "It's incumbent upon everybody to act in a way that's becoming of the office they hold," said Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.), a former FBI agent, "And that's not casting judgment on anything until you know all the facts."

Fitzpatrick said his call for transparency about the search is grounded in a desire to restore the FBI's credibility: "There's nothing I want more than the American public to love the FBI."

...
I'm impressed Democrats finally got us to say, 'Defund the FBI,'" Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas) told Axios. "That makes you look unserious, when you start talking like that."

Trump Search Said to Be Part of Effort to Find Highly Classified Material - The New York Times - "The former president said he would not object to the Justice Department’s move to release the search warrant used to carry out the search of his Florida home."
Some senior Republicans have been warned by allies of Mr. Trump not to continue to be aggressive in criticizing the Justice Department and the F.B.I. over the matter because it is possible that more damaging information related to the search will become public.

Ricky Shiffer: An armed man tried to enter the FBI's Cincinnati office and was fatally shot after a standoff with police. Here's what we know - CNN
An armed man suspected of trying to breach the FBI's Cincinnati field office Thursday was killed in Ohio after a vehicle chase and hours-long standoff with law enforcement, authorities say.

The suspect was believed to be armed with an AR-15 rifle and a nail gun, a federal law enforcement source told CNN, and was wearing body armor, according to officials in an Ohio county.

He was Ricky W. Shiffer, 42, of Columbus, the state highway patrol said Friday.

Responding to Dan Crenshaw saying that right-wingers calling for defunding the FBI makes them seem "unserious":
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene🇺🇸 on Twitter: "You know what makes you look unserious to Republican voters? ..." / Twitter
You know what makes you look unserious to Republican voters?

Republican politicians who never actually take the bold actions to stop the Democrat’s relentless destruction of America, and even worse those same Republicans who join the America Last Uniparty.

I ran for Congress after being furious with the failures of a Republican majority under the first two years of President Trump.

Republicans made big promises like repeal Obamacare, defund Planned Parenthood, and build the wall.

None of these things happened.

Instead, The Republicans didn’t repeal Obamacare that took my family’s health insurance premium from $800/mo to over $2,700/mo and caused MANY insurance companies to pull out of the market which severely limited the offering of policies available to consumers.

Democrat caused problems, but Republicans who didn’t do the hard work, in spite of the criticism to fix it, failed.

That looks unserious.

That same Republican controlled majority and same Republicans who all are Pro-Life, apparently didn’t want to upset their abortion loving Democrat colleagues.

Instead of passing strong Pro-Life legislation like the Life at Conception Act, or even just defunding all federal dollars from going to abortion mills, the Republican controlled Congress actually funded Planned Parenthood in a massive trillion dollar omnibus bill.

This outraged Conservative Republicans, but yet the omnibus bill still passed.

Again, this is the type of thing that makes Republicans look unserious.

But let’s point out just one more example, even though I could point out MANY things that make Republicans look unserious.

During Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign, one of his top agenda items was border security.

At every rally, we chanted “Build The Wall!”

Republican voters and many Americans in general were fed up with the hypocrisy of sanctuary cities that protect illegal aliens paid for by our hard earned tax dollars, and outraged at the heartbreaking stories from Angel families about the deaths of their loved ones caused by crimes committed by illegals that would have never happened if America had strong border security and didn’t harbor illegals in sanctuary cities.

Not to mention the videos of caravan after caravan of people invading our country, sad stories of child trafficking at the border, and the never ending flow of drugs into America that is poisoning our people.

Surely, the Republican controlled majority under President Trump would fund the border wall, strong border security, and defund Democrat controlled sanctuary cities that all of their Republican voters fully expected them to do.

But nope, that Republican controlled Congress didn’t even fund the wall in 2018.

Definitely unserious.

But perhaps one of the most frustrating and infuriating things to watch was the Russia Hoax created under the Obama admin and Hillary Clinton’s campaign with the fake Steele dossier.

The corrupt FBI & DOJ colluded to lie to the FISA Court, unmask Trump staff, and spy on Trump.

Republican voters & many Americans did not believe the regurgitated lies that were broadcasted 24-7 by the Democrat’s mouthpiece, the corporate media.

It was the Republican controlled Congress that allowed the witch hunt to carry on wasting millions of taxpayers dollars.

You have no idea how unserious Republicans looked for not taking the bold actions necessary to stop the Democrat’s Trump derangement investigations and lies pounded into history in order to feed hate into their voters so they could try to regain power at the next election.

It was the failure of a Republican controlled Congress to do what they said they would do that allowed Nancy Pelosi to take the gavel in 2019.

And what could have been the most productive 4 years in American history turned into a slug fest bc Republicans were unserious.

You see even in the 117th Congress, there have been things that Republican voters find unserious.

They are disgusted with Republicans who continue to fund foreign wars defending other countries borders while ours doesn’t exist.

They can’t stand Republicans who join the World Economic Forum climate scam and energy killing agenda.

They are outraged at Republicans who still think they have to be “bipartisan” & vote for bills that continue to bury America in debt and create more debilitating bureaucracy.

But the one thing that makes Republican voters the most angry are the Republican politicians who are too arrogant or disconnected from their base to comprehend how threatened they feel by rogue Gov agencies and unelected bureaucrats hell bent on ripping away their freedoms.

Of course we need federal law enforcement that will stop terrorists, lock up child sex predators, & destroy drug gangs, but political persecution by the corrupt top brass in the FBI & DOJ needs to be defunded and stripped of power.

That’s the serious action our voters expect.

maybe he just had a vague idea that miscellaneous secret documents would have cash value if donations dry up
I'm pretty sure he has friends (Serei Lavrov for one) who could give (gave?) him good advice about what information would bring what price.
But knowing Trump, he'd sell it to Putler for one price, then try to get more from the Saudis for the same info. Maybe trickle some out to his buddy Xi as a return favor for Ivanka's patents... the shit would hit the fan for real if his customers started talking to each other.
