Another Fucking Mass Shooting At US School

In fact I have one I just let into my house to do his homework because his sisters are into gang shit and he's not built like that. His father died and I just naturally became his outlet for the goings on in his life.
My hat is off to you dude.

In the modern world it takes serious guts to take a chance on a troubled youth.
Kudos!
Tom

I've been threatend enough times to be tired of black on black crime more then YOU EVER WILL BE.
I don't think anyone, whatever they look like, wherever they are born, has not been threatened a time or two by someone who just wants to beef with someone, qnd who isn't actually going to take "I'm sorry" for an answer.

Sadly, it's been more often a young black person (once it was an OLD black person...) doing it to me and I think largely it originates from this perpetual ennui of pain and discouragement coming from every direction including their own peer communities.

So demeaning of cops and local authorities happened around the same magnitude everywhere
Well, no. The cities that summoned the wrath of BLM suffered a lot worse. I mean,

But, hey! No, there's no spike in crime. It's just a flesh wound.
So crime increased where #BLM has no footprint because...?
Did it?

Crime in Boise has been on a downward trend for years and is among the lowest in the nation. Boise remains an incredibly safe city and we have made crime rates for comparable cities available here.

Even with an increase in population, the property crime rate in Boise is going down and the violent crime rate has stayed at a low level.

I don't think Elixir is a suitable target to level that post towards but I agree with the general message.

How does your obsession with a former president stop the rise in homicide?

My so-called obsession has nothing to do with it. Murder rates are a reflection of the society. This society is allowing itself to be destroyed, if the public doesn't impose its will and enforce its laws. Letting an insurrectionist real estate goon/pretend tv businessman with Russian interests get away with literally stealing national secrets would be disastrous. I'm sure though, a thorough investigation will show that Joe Biden planted those 11,000 documents, right?
You may not care about stuff like American National Security laws. But then, I strongly suspect your knowing or unknowing support of a civil War in the US or at least violent insurrection that would cripple the Country's abilities abroad.

A lot of them [murder victims] are people playing in a park, sitting at home, going to the store when they're killed. You don't seem to care about that. We should all care about that.

Are you mouthing a pro gun control stance?
I fully endorse.

And, it's fully incidental, but I have to add - the former president with whom you say I am obsessed, is in the pocket of the NRA, a perfectly symbiotic relationship for laundering Rubles and getting guns distributed in ever increasing quantities while paying down Trump's debt to Uncle Vlad. Good to have a lot of guns out there in case he needs an armed mob because he's being treated so unfairly by the FBI. Or the DOJ. Or the CIA, NSA, DOD... so fuck gun control if Republicans get their way.

the explosion in crime

There is no explosion in crime. There has been an increase in the murder rate since Trump made violence fashionable. The big increase came in 2020, under Trump’s watch. Stats since then don’t show any explosion. 2022 stats are not even available.
Wow. Even NPR had to acknowledge it.

When you demean cops and the local authorities let the criminals know there'll be little consequence for bad behavior - ya know, for socal justice - what would you expect?

So demeaning of cops and local authorities happened around the same magnitude everywhere and resulted in the same magnitude of increase in crime? Red v blue state, urban v rural?

Typically don't people commit crimes because they don't think they will be caught.

Nonsense. They commit crimes for any number of reasons, but 'not thinking they will get caught' is not one of them.

It doesn't sound like he's 'troubled' hence going to Gospel to do homework. In fact he sounds grounded AND brave to me. Having a crappy home life doesn't mean "troubled youth".

The guys (and were talking nearly all guys here) do more than murder.

Yabut do they...

How does your obsession with a former president stop the rise in homicide? Many of the victims are fellow criminals; but a lot of them are not. A lot of them are people playing in a park, sitting at home, going to the store when they're killed. You don't seem to care about that. We should all care about that.
I assume you are for STRONG gun control.

I know plenty of people who have committed crimes, and none who have expected to get caught. They're usually surprised when they do (despite it being an obvious likelihood, to their families and many of their friends), and it's only at that point that they give the first thought to the penalty that they will incur.

Certainly none were incentivised to commit crimes by the idea that they would get only a light punishment if caught.

Confuse correlation with causation much?

The one unbeatable trait of the aspiring mass killer
Author Liz Lapoint: "I had a passion for serial killers in college." then describing how researched them like crazy.

"It was while reading the umpteenth such book that I finally made the connection."

Then describing the numerous crimes committed by John Robinson, Jeffrey Dahmer, Robert Hansen, and Ted Bundy, like JR's repeated embezzling. LL then notices something about them: they are all white men. Why might that be?
White privilege is “inherent advantages possessed by a white person on the basis of their race in a society characterized by racial inequality and injustice.” It’s a succinct definition, but it only scratches the surface, as there are myriad ways in which being light-skinned in a culture mostly populated and controlled by other light-skinned people can be advantageous. Most dangerously, white people often give other white people the benefit of the doubt. When a white person is behaving suspiciously or even appearing very guilty of criminal activity, other white people often default to judging that person as innocent until proven guilty. “There must be some other explanation”, they say. “John is a church-going family man so he couldn’t be a serial rapist”, they say. “That home alarm is blaring and a white man is climbing through the window, but he must’ve set it off by mistake and accidentally locked himself out of his own house”, they say. Brown and Black people, by contrast, are judged guilty until proven innocent. They can’t even walk home from the store, go jogging, or be at home playing video games without being assumed guilty of something and murdered.
Then on Larry Gene Bell, caught with only two known victims.
Most serial killers are white because whiteness provides the necessary minimum conditions of leniency and benefit of doubt that smooth the path toward serial murder. Black and brown offenders are rarely given the benefit of the doubt and often given full sentences for even minor, nonviolent crimes. White male criminals become emboldened with every merciful judgment in a courtroom, each lax punishment affirming the psychopath’s narcissistic belief that they’re smarter than everyone else. They serve light sentences, if they serve at all, then enjoy the freedom to hone their skills and criminal savvy in order to outwit the detectives better next time.

... but it’s important to note that Black juvenile offenders are twice as likely to receive a sentence of life without parole as white teens guilty of the same crime. It’s also worth mentioning that psychopaths commonly explain their motivation for violent crimes as nothing more than a curiosity, and there’s currently no effective treatment for psychopathy.
Psychopathy - lack of compassion and conscience

Black serial killers are rare, but there are some. Two of them, Wayne Williams and Harrison Graham, had no arrest records, but another black one had a sizable record: Samuel Little.
In Samuel Little’s case, it appears racism was directed more at his victims than at him. Since most of his victims were young Black women who were impoverished or struggling with addiction, their deaths were given a cursory glance and ruled as drug overdoses, suicides, or accidental. It’s been noted that white victims of violence receive far more media attention and empathy from the public than Black or Indigenous victims do. Little himself reportedly believed he’d never be caught because “no one was accounting for [his] victims.”

While serial killers have been around for a long time - consider Jack the Ripper - mass shootings are much more recent.
Mass shooters with a personal grievance, motivated to avenge some real or imagined wrongdoing by people they know, come in all races, colors, and ethnicities. But the very public shootings of strangers gathered for some shared purpose, like grocery shopping, movie watching, dancing in a nightclub, or getting an education, seem to mainly be executed by entitled, aggrieved, angry white males. Again, white privilege plays a role.

Conservative white people have been photographed open-carrying AR-15s and other sorts of enormous firearms while picking up donuts and coffee at the cafe, standing in line at the pharmacy, and perusing the bread aisle looking for hot dog buns on sale. The reasons they do this are varied, but what matters is that they feel safe doing so. They know their whiteness means people will give them the benefit of the doubt, despite knowing the men who shoot up the public schools, movie theaters, concert venues, and sidewalks of pedestrians are white. Their blatant displays serve to normalize seeing armed white people, making it even easier for mass shooters to enter public places without ringing alarm bells.

Black people too often can’t even shop for a pellet gun, play with a toy gun, or store their legally owned and licensed firearm in their car’s glove compartment without being seen as a dangerous threat and killed.

My goodness. Serial killers got away with their murders because of “White Privilege”. JFC. One might notice that the high age of the serial killer coincided with the sexual liberation of the 60s through 80s. Promiscuity made access to young men and women for sexual exploitation easier; mix in a formerly high trust society and it’s a serial killer’s paradise. But, no. Gacy got away with it, until he didn’t, because of his Whiteness. Totally.

My goodness. Serial killers got away with their murders because of “White Privilege”. ...
That's not what I was saying. They got light sentences for earlier crimes often because they didn't seem like criminals. From there, they moved on to serial murder.

Then some attempted connection with "sexual promiscuity", whatever that is supposed to be.

Yeah, the numbers are the numbers. What do you suppose we do about these numbers? We're already filling the prisons.
It seems that we are not filling prisons with the right people. Too many violent criminals get released on early parole.
Take this guy:
Four dead, three injured in Memphis shooting rampage; suspect in custody
WREG said:
A 19-year-old man was arrested Wednesday night after multiple shootings and carjackings across Memphis left four people dead and three injured in a violent rampage that lasted for hours, officials said.
The suspect was identified as Ezekiel Kelly. Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland said Kelly had been released from jail March 16 after serving 11 months of a three-year sentence for an aggravated assault plea.
That's <1/3 of an already light sentence.
What we know about Ezekiel Kelly, suspect in Memphis mass shooting
WREG said:
Court records also showed more about the teen’s background: He faced four felony charges, including two counts of attempted murder, one count of reckless endangerment and one count of possession of a firearm in 2020 at the age of 17. Sources told WREG he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of aggravated assault in the case in 2021. He got three years in that case, but was already out of jail.

We need to do a better job locking up violent felons. At the same time there are some things now criminalized that should not be - things like marijuana and sex work.

In the long run, though, we need to work on changing the culture. But that requires being able to talk about the problem without being called names by the likes of bilby. And btw, isn't that supposed to be against forum rules?

We have a serious issue going on in my community and there is a lot of us black folk that recognize that and working hard as fuck within our communities to change things. What the fuck are you doing with those numbers to help Derec?
Now much I can do myself. Or do you have some ideas how I could help?

FIFY. Also yes, definitely more tasteless, abhorrent really.
A big majority of gun crimes is committed with handguns, not rifles of any type, much less so-called "assault weapons".

Focus should be on people like Ezekiel Kelly, not having this futile obsession over banning a certain type of guns.
So we need to ban handguns as well to guarantee safety, is what you're saying?
