Looks to be that there is going to be a full attack on Hunter Biden when the GOP takes over the House in January. But there is now going be an organized counter attack in response. Including defamation lawsuits, and investigations of the instigators of these attacks.

The younger Biden has also hired several other lawyers — Chris Clark, who is handling a federal criminal investigation into his business dealings and other matters, along with a separate attorney, Joshua A. Levy, to deal directly with the House investigators."

According to the report, there also efforts underway at the Biden White House and at the Democratic National Committee level to launch a counter-assault, with a "a trio of Democratic-aligned outside groups" standing by" to "provide rapid response and other communications."

This is such a lame attempt at smearing President Biden. Frankly, if I were in the GOP, I'd be really worried about going after the family of the President, especially given their past leader.

Mother Jones Magazine has been reporting on this. At bottom of all of it we have Steve Bannon and friends, and others turning Hunter Biden's laptop into a witch hunt and wedge issue. Law suits for defamation, libel and illegally accessing computers is going to make this all messy. Part of the fun of lawsuits, lawsuits and more lawsuits is discovery.

With a little luck this will blow up in the faces of the GOP. Nutty Newt's harassment of Bill Clinton over a blow job ended up getting Clinton re-elected and Newt losing his position of leader of the GOP House. The next GOP speaker of the House has few good choices. Sign on to this witch hunt, try to squelch it, or try to pretend it is not happening. Good luck with that. And possible 2024 GOP candidates will have to deal with this as it all blows up into a giant political tar baby.

It didn't stop them from going after the Hillary e-mails and, arguably, using them to put their favored turd on the golden throne for four years. That case was even less grounded in reality, but they're happy to drop millions of taxpayer dollars on a scandal no matter how flimsy the grounds. Just seeing various permutations of "Biden = corrupt" in the newspapers every morning for three years will start to make it "feel" true for a lot of American voters come ballot time, no matter what any courtroom might decide. This is a public relations game, not an earnest search for truth.

Aye. I never thought I would come to miss the species of conservativism I grew up around, but now that I see what they've come to be replaced by...

I mean, I always thought it was hypocrisy, pretending to be the pro-life, pro-family party while advocating disastrous policies to kill or dehome people en masse. But that, though opprobrious, genuinely seemed like unintentional hypocrisy, a perhaps biased but honest ignorance on their part. At least on some level, a genuine clash of ideas about how the country should be run. What we have now is a clash of money, propaganda, and lies built around the maintenance of power. It's disgusting, and though it is only a little bit better on the other side of the aisle, I'm not particularly worried that Pelosi is going to declare herself dictator, you know? I'm not sure the GOP understands what a dangerous game they're playing with all these conspiracy theories, paramilitary outfits, and so forth. They can't actually control the beast they are unleashing.

pics of Hun doing drugs
email discussing business deals, where he said he didn’t think his dad would do anything to help him
and message from his dad expressing sympathy and desire to help his son with his drug addiction

so yea, assuming the stuff they have is real, and that is the worst of it, then they are trying to discover if there is something even less substantial than a nothingburger.

Apparently, that happened. Heavy drug use can make one do stuff like that. And herein lies a lesson. If one has a laptop full of very raw stuff, use encryption. Strong encryption.

Wasn't it the other way around? Why would the FBI want copies and not the actual laptop?

A good question. If the GOP manages to hold hearings on Hunter Biden's laptop, there is going to be some hard questions asked about that from FBI witnesses. Apparently the laptop hard disk passed around through a number of hands until it ended up in the possession of Giuliani.
