The trials of the Capitol assaulters

As many as 1,200 additional people could still face charges related to the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol Building, according to a letter sent by the US attorney overseeing the investigations to a DC federal court judge.

The letter, sent by US Attorney Matthew Graves to Chief Judge Beryl Howell in October 2022, estimated that an additional 700 to 1,200 individuals would face charges related to the riot, according to Bloomberg News.

Everyday lately somebody is being either arrested, convicted or sentenced for their 1/6 sins.

Looking at Larry Brock's message, that looks a lot like planning a coup.

There was also: Defense's sentencing recommendations

There was no court order to release him early. It just looks like standard early release by the federal prisons formula they use.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene recently led a Congressional delegation to visit some of the jailed insurrectionists, and Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett joined them.

NEW: Congressional delegation tour of Jan 6 defendants’ wing of DC jail has just wrapped. With very different versions and accounts of what’s happening inside … between the Republicans and Democrats who took the tour.

Rep Majorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Rep Byron Donalds (R-FL) said “constitutional rights are being violated” for Jan 6 defendants. With Greene saying medical care and services are being denied the defendants. (Protestor used whistle to disrupt)

A much different version from Rep Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), who says the tour showed Jan 6 defendants seem to have more privileges, technology and services. And even had the equipment to record a song

Rep Robert Garcia (D-CA) said the Jan 6 defendants in DC jail “have 24-hour access to medical care. They have a very professional staff.. they can interact with visitors”

Then Garcia noted about the tour: “We were in an open room.. with people that attacked our country”

Rep Robert Garcia (D-CA) speaking about House GOP members who met with Jan 6 defendants today: “Our colleagues were treating some of these folks like they’re celebrities. That’s quite shameful in my opinion”
No Lie with Brian Tyler Cohen on Twitter: "Someone with a whistle appears to be messing with Marjorie Taylor Greene’s speech as she visits a jail with January 6 insurrectionists. She is calling to “defund the justice system.” (vid link)" / Twitter

Republicans Open Inquiry Into Treatment of Jan. 6 Defendants at D.C. Jail - The New York Times - "House Republicans demanded answers about whether Jan. 6 prisoners were mistreated, part of a broader effort by the G.O.P. to rewrite the history of the riot."
“Eyewitness accounts of conditions at the D.C. jail facilities — particularly regarding the treatment of Jan. 6 detainees — paint a picture of despair, hopelessness, and a severe abuse of justice,” Ms. Greene wrote in the letter, which was also signed by Representative James R. Comer, Republican of Kentucky and the chairman of the Oversight Committee, and Representative Clay Higgins, Republican of Louisiana. “No prisoner in the United States should be treated in this fashion.”

...
Ms. Greene visited the jail in November 2021 and detailed her findings in a report released the next month. She said one inmate reported being beaten by other detainees and not being provided care. Another showed evidence of having a fractured bone that was left untreated, she said.

...
Ms. Greene said detainees told her they had been denied access to a Bible and Communion because they had refused to take the coronavirus vaccine.

She said that the inmates had access to computer tablets 22 out of 24 hours per day, with the only exception being for when the tablets are being recharged. She also said that they have good medical attention and the female ones free menstrual pads.

Crockett: Jan. 6 defendants in DC jail have it better than Texas prisoners - "The Dallas Democrat joined a group of Republican House members for a tour of the facility."
“If we want to go and talk about people that are suffering, we can go visit some jails in Texas, and I can show you what that looks like,” Crockett said.

“The DC Jail is mismanaged and violates human rights,” Greene said Friday as she described conditions she saw at the facility on a previous visit as “disgusting.”

I really wish MTG's outrage over jail conditions wasn't lip service. Regrettably she's just (as we used to call it in the 90's hood) stunting.

I really wish MTG's outrage over jail conditions wasn't lip service.

But previous, regular criminals in prison deserve the conditions. These new J6 heroes are good ole boy white christian conservatives. Can't you see the difference?

More sedition convictions. This trial has been going for 4 months and is not quite done yet.

Four members of the far-right Proud Boys organization were found guilty Thursday of seditious conspiracy in connection with the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Enrique Tarrio, Joseph Biggs, Ethan Nordean, Dominic Pezzola and Zachary Rehl each faced nine counts. All but Pezzola were found guilty on the rare charge of seditious conspiracy under a Civil War-era statute. Tarrio, Biggs, Nordean and Rehl were also found guilty of conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding.

The jury reached only a partial verdict and remains split on whether Pezzola is guilty of the seditious conspiracy and conspiracy to obstruct charges. U.S. District Judge Timothy J. Kelly has instructed jurors to continue deliberating on multiple outstanding charges.

Pezzola — who was caught on video smashing in a window with a Capitol Police shield during the breach, and who admitted to his behavior on the stand — was separately charged with stealing the police shield and found guilty Thursday.

Pezzola was also found guilty of assaulting, resisting or impeding certain officers, while the other four defendants were acquitted on that charge.

Waddyaknow, Tucker Carlson was right about FBI involvement in instigating 1/6.

An ex-FBI official who allegedly urged rioters to "kill" officers during the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol was previously the supervisory special agent in charge of Homegrown Violent Extremism for the FBI New York Field Office's Joint Terrorism Task Force, a senior law enforcement official told NBC News.

Jared Wise was arrested in Oregon this week, charged with four misdemeanor counts. After he entered the Capitol and exited through a broken window, an FBI affidavit alleges, Wise yelled at officers outside the Capitol.

"You’re disgusting. You are the Nazi. You are the Gestapo. You can’t see it," he yelled, according to the bureau. "Shame on you! Shame on you! Shame on you!”

As officers were knocked down in front of him, Wise turned toward the violence and started yelling again, according to the FBI.

“Yeah, f--- them! Yeah, kill ’em!” Wise said, according to the FBI. “Kill ’em! Kill ’em! Kill ’em!”

Wise, according to a senior law enforcement official, served in the homegrown violent extremism role from 2014 to 2017.

So now the guys who styled themselves as "Trump's Army" and who were close friends with Trump-pardoned BFF Roger Stone have been convicted of inciting rebellion against the United States. They are whining that they are being scapegoated for those that egged them on, namely Stone and "Stand back and stand by" Trump. They deserve their convictions, but they are fall guys for Trump and his Republican co-conspirators. Traitors, every one of them.

I wish it were so, but I don't believe that Trump himself will ever by charged with sedition. He is the one who famously said the words "Proud Boys, stand back and stand by", so they are right to think of themselves as "Trump's army". Trump pardoned a bunch of cronies, including Roger Stone, for "prosecutorial overreach", but he left these deluded idiots out. So they are also right to think of themselves as having been used and discarded. Well, they still have all of those photos with them and Stone flashing "V" signs and laughing.

The above is no longer the longest sentence.

The founder of the far-right Oath Keepers has been sentenced to 18 years in federal prison in connection with the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol following his conviction on seditious conspiracy.

The sentence for Stewart Rhodes is the longest imposed on a Jan. 6 defendant to date. “You, sir, present an ongoing threat and a peril to this country and to the republic and to the very fabric of this democracy," Judge Amit Mehta said before handing down the sentence.

Rhodes was convicted of seditious conspiracy in November along with Kelly Meggs, a fellow Oath Keepers member who will be sentenced later Thursday afternoon.
....
When given the chance to speak before sentencing, Rhodes, wearing an orange prison jumpsuit, called himself a "political prisoner" and said he believes the only crime he committed was opposing those who are “destroying our country.” He added that he hopes former President Donald Trump wins in 2024.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on Thursday said he would “aggressively” use presidential pardons to free people who’ve been charged or convicted of crimes – including former President Donald Trump.

Speaking during an interview with hosts Buck Sexton and Clay Travis, Mr DeSantis claimed that the Department of Justice has been “weaponised” under the Biden Administration. He cited a laundry list of GOP grievances about federal law enforcement targeting conservative activists and other GOP figures who have allegedly violated federal laws.

“What I’m going to do is ... on day one, I will have folks that will get together and look at all these cases, who people are victims of weaponisation or political targeting, and we will be aggressive at issuing pardons,” he said.

Mr DeSantis downplayed what he described as “technical violations of the law” and suggested he’d issue pardons for January 6 rioters because Black Lives Matter protesters have not been prosecuted to the same extent by the federal government.

Perhaps if some intrepid journalist asked DeSantis specifically, "What crimes are you considering pardoning them for, specifically? What crimes do you think they committed that need pardoning?"

That might be fun.

I'm not doing it. I don't want the kind of death threats, and such, honest journalists will get these days.

They could ask Sen. Cotton who he was fleeing from, that way they know that that person should be in jail.
