The trials of the Capitol assaulters

Apparently some of the rioters in the DC jails are complaining about the inhumane conditions in there. (probably thought they were not a problem when anyone else was sent there). So some of them are demanding that they be transferred to Gitmo. Where they believe they have “nutritional meals” and “top-notch medical care".

I'm fine with it. Let them be treated with all the care and respect of the other prisoners there.
It's hard to argue with vigorous consent.

First Proud Boys leader pleads guilty to Jan. 6 seditious conspiracy

A lieutenant of longtime former Proud Boys chairman Henry “Enrique” Tarrio became the group’s first member to plead guilty to seditious conspiracy in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot on Thursday, deepening the government’s case against an organization accused of mobilizing violence to prevent the inauguration of Joe Biden.

Jeremy Bertino, 43, of Belmont, N.C., agreed to cooperate with the Justice Department against Tarrio and four other Proud Boys leaders with ties to influential Donald Trump supporters Roger Stone and Alex Jones. The Proud Boys defendants are set to face trial in December on charges including plotting to oppose by force the presidential transition, culminating in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.

At a hearing before U.S. District Judge Timothy J. Kelly in Washington, Bertino pleaded guilty to that count and to one count of illegal possession of firearms as a former felon, punishable by 51 to 63 months in prison at sentencing under advisory federal guidelines, prosecutors said.

But sure, it was just a normal tourist visit.

In plea papers, Bertino said Proud Boys leaders “agreed that the election had been stolen, that the purpose of traveling to Washington, D.C., on January 6, 2021, was to stop the certification of the Electoral College vote, and that the [Ministry of Self Defense] leaders were willing to do whatever it would take, including using force against police and others, to achieve that objective.”

He admitted that at least two days earlier he received encrypted chat messages indicating that members of the Proud Boys leadership group who called themselves the Ministry of Self Defense “believed that storming the Capitol would achieve the group’s goal” and would require using violence.

And can we make them enemy combatants in the process?

They already made themselves that, back in January

Man Who Dragged Officer Into Jan. 6 Mob Is Sentenced to 90 Months - The New York Times.

A Tennessee man was sentenced on Thursday to seven and a half years in prison for dragging a police officer protecting the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, into an angry pro-Trump crowd that brutally assaulted the officer.

The man, Albuquerque Cosper Head, pleaded guilty in March to assaulting the officer, Michael Fanone, who has emerged as an outspoken advocate for the officers who were subjected to the mob violence on Jan. 6. The sentence was one of the most severe penalties handed down so far in the Justice Department’s investigation of the Capitol attack.

As part of his plea, Mr. Head, a 43-year-old construction worker, admitted that during the violence outside the Capitol, he grabbed Mr. Fanone around the neck and told the crowd around him, “I got one!” Mr. Head then forcibly hauled Mr. Fanone down the Capitol steps and into the mob, where he was beaten, kicked and attacked with a stun gun.

Some in the crowd tried to strip Mr. Fanone of his service weapon as one rioter threatened to kill him with his own gun.

Such a harsh sentence for mild mannered maga granny on an ordinary tourist visit waved inside by the police.

Next stop, Roger Stone?
Given Roger's catholic tastes, I wonder if he did ESR during the period of their rapprochement?

Capitol rioter who chased officer near Senate chamber sentenced to 5 years in prison

The rioter at the front of a mob that chased US Capitol Police Officer Eugene Goodman up flights of stairs near the Senate chamber on January 6, 2021, has been sentenced to five years behind bars.

Douglas Jensen, who prosecutors say was one of the first 10 rioters to enter the Capitol during the attack, was convicted by a jury in September of each of the seven charges he faced, including obstruction of an official proceeding and assaulting a police officer.

Anthime Gionet, the newly-minted Tampa Bay resident and white nationalist internet celebrity known as “Baked Alaska,” should serve 60 days in jail for his participation in the Jan. 6, 2021, riots at the U.S. Capitol, a federal judge in Washington, D.C., ruled Tuesday.

He had earlier pled guilty.

Judge: You are convicted of assaulting a police officer.

Criminal: Assault?! I thought assault involved...

Judge: That's battery dumbass.

No... that likely wasn't said in court. But I'm pretty certain the thought went through the criminal's mind after being arrested.

Desk guy was convicted.

from the report:
Prosecutors said Barnett had a history of arming himself at political demonstrations. In July 2020, they said, a 911 caller reported that a man matching Barnett’s description had pointed a rifle at her during a “Back the Blue” rally.
Law enforcement ultimately closed the investigation as unfounded due to unresolved apparent discrepancies in the evidence,” prosecutors wrote.

Merrick Garland be like:

- burning down an ATLPD car and vandalizing businesses in downtown Atlanta: not a big deal.
- putting feet on Nancy Pelosi's desk: real shit.

An attack on the Capitol of the United States of America with an intent to prevent the certification of the election of the next POTUS is a big fucking deal and one of extreme national importance. It is within the purview of federal law enforcement. I'm being polite here: we ALL know that elected officials and the former POTUS were intimately involved in the attempt to overthrow the government of the United States of America.

Unrest in any state is a state matter until and unless it is demonstrated to be under federal jurisdiction.

Such stupid, obviously partisan statements on your part really do undermine your credibility and any legitimate point you might have. You and I disagree frequently but here, your statement is beyond bad faith.

Today on Jurisdiction Matters, we discuss why the Attorney General might not intervene in every crime committed in America. How many murders does the Attorney General not get involved in? Is it because he doesn't care?

Jebus!
