• Welcome to the Internet Infidels Discussion Board.

Well... it's Trump... again. #47, here we go.

But let’s face it, it’s the progressive’s that are the ones who kick up a fuss about books they don’t like, insisting there are trigger warnings on the classics and caterwauling about how mathematics is white privilege etc
Two things;
* although I can provide very long lists of books banned by conservotards, I have never seen this alleged fuss; can you provide a specific example?
* Every time you use an apostrophe to form a plural, a kitten is tortured to death.
Wont somebody think of the kitten's!!

Oh, wait.

Shit.

I'm not also a conservative in addition to that.
You don’t think I was accusing YOU of banning books, do you?
Nope I'm just making a dig at conservatives cause they're dumb.
I don’t think Swiz is dumb, but I know of at least one really dumb thing he said he was going to do. 😑
Yeah, but fuck his feelings.
I’m sorry!!
😢
Didn’t mean to hurt no one!

Those are an attack on the rights and freedoms of all citizens. I don't need anyone to tell me what I'm allowed or not allowed to know, or read, or watch, least of all whichever dumb prick has conned his way into the White House in any given year. Fuck this Nazi bullshit, go live in Russia or Hungary if you love this kind of authoritarian crap so much.

As far as I can tell, access to books has not been infringed upon so what on earth are you talking about?
You don’t recall this?

From Angelou to Vonnegut, Florida schools pulled hundreds of books last year.

No I don’t recall it. I live in California so Florida is not on my radar. Your link is behind a paywall so I had to look elsewhere. Seems some Florida school districts did some housekeeping on their libraries at the behest of parents? Unclear why books were taken out but I see some of the gender bender propaganda was removed. Hardly the book burning frenzy of Nazis as presented.
So because you live in California you don't know what is happening in Florida? I live in Australia yet I do know. It seems that you are making no effort to be informed. Being uninformed can lead you to make uninformed comments. MAGA are also uninformed.

It was national news at the time. I live in California too.

I tend to focus on things closer to home, I don’t obsess about what goes on in Florida. I think you have some sort of rage boner for Florida.

The law was changed so that parents could call out any book they didn’t like for removal, essentially. It became a bit of a laughing stock when one parent asked for the Bible to be removed too because of all the rape, murder, etc.

Well, work on changing it again. That’s the way democracy works, right?

Some were classics that have been around a long time and refer to sexuality in some ways and his forbid homosexuality even!!

Again, it’s unclear why some school boards removed certain books from school libraries but I have neither the time nor the interest to examine every book. School boards all over the country do all sorts of stuff. Some I agree with some I don’t. But it’s not as if they are building bonfires in the school yard and burning books or closing the library. My kids have graduated so I don’t have much interest in what my local school board is up to let alone school boards on the other side of the country. I’ll let you obsess about that and keep us all informed.
Maybe you and @Politesse could get yourselves elected to a Florida school board if you are so disturbed about what books are in the school library?

That’s true. But your claim was access to books had not been infringed. I wouldn’t be surprised if many of those parents would be happy with a book burning, though, if given the option.

A library can only stock so many books and inventory comes and goes on a regular basis. If you really, really, really need to have your kid read about certain topics then you can always procure a book via Amazon or perhaps the public library. See my earlier comment and become active on the Florida school board or something.

Not really, no. I only see some national news headlines about hurricanes, plane crashes etc.

I live in Australia yet I do know.
Nice, what part? I have family in Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide.

It seems that you are making no effort to be informed.

Do I really need to be informed about out of state school boards? But I am engaging in discussion about it here so I think I am being somewhat informed about it.
Being uninformed can lead you to make uninformed comments.
I’m willing to learn Yoda.

MAGA are also uninformed.

Ok 👍🏻

So, 13 days into Four Years of the Asshole Part Two, he has outraged both of our neighbors and trading partners on the continent -- as if they (and China) won't ratchet up the tariffs and give him what he deserves. I googled a bit of Canadian news sites, and that normally even-tempered country is in an uproar over our now-crazy country.
I've recently been reading back issues of magazines that never got read when they arrived, and it happens that I'm going through issues of The Week from 2017, reliving the awful first year of Trump. I'm up to fall 2017, ten months in, by which time Trump had already insisted that both sides of the Charlottesville white power march consisted of "very fine people." He'd already called KIm Jong Un 'Rocket Man', repeating this gibe to a shocked session of the United Nations. By October his secretary of state was known to have called him "a fucking moron", and a White House aide described the Oval Office as "adult day care." In a piece in the Oct. 27 issue titled "Is the president 'unraveling'?", there was a quote from a Boston Globe columnist which mentioned the dread some Americans had of Trump starting a nuclear war, and concluded, "Trump has become an unbearable, infuriating, enraging, and draining presence in our national life." The Week ended its piece by asking, "Could this possibly go on for three more years?"
Feb. 1. 2025: the same, only worse.
Much, much worse.

I guess the progress of this thread indicates that swiz et al. approve of Trump dumping the summer irrigation water in the ocean.

Not necessarily. As a right-wing banana-brain and hardcore Trumplicker, Mr. Swizz is no more capable of criticizing his Messiah than a hardcore Christian was capable of asking why Jim and Tammy Bakker needed three Mercedes-Benz to go with their Cadillacs.

BUT almost all capable of even posting on a message board have 90+ IQs, and I'd not be at all surprised if some part of Swizz's brain wonders (at least subconsciously) whether Trump is really the great genius Swizz still needs him to be. His delusion that Messiah wants him to serve as meteorologist in Santa Monica isn't hopeful, but I think there's a good chance he's pretending to be stupider than he actually is, hoping to garner sympathy.

There may be rehab programs that could help Swizz but first he must hit bottom and acknowledge he has a problem.

You aren't familiar with Texas and Florida?! What does that mean, and how couldn't you be?
I don’t know the details of what goes on in those states is what I mean. I’m simply not up on their affairs to the extent you are.
And people like you, with their head in the sand, is why we are stuck with Rump.

The Texas State Board of Education is packed with nationalist christians who underplay science and evolution, and promote creationism in classrooms. Texas has 5 million students. With this shitload of buying power, textbook publishers edit their books as the Texas board directs. Most states don't have that much clout. Or don't have a state board to negotiate with publishers. So they get stuck buying texts that Texas dumbed-down.
Forget the alleged gender-bending. That's a strawman pushed by the christians.
As a professed atheist, you should be paying attention to the creationist dogma, anti-science, and history whitewashing that the Texas Board of Education is pushing.

Does California have a state board? Or are your kids (or neighbor kids) stuck with (dumbass)Texas approved textbooks?

librarian created a fake account and card to check out and check back in books in danger of being removed
Good for him. I know of several libraries that hold annual book sales of donated and underused books.
(A few local here in PA, and in Rochester NY and suburbs)
I haven't checked, but I hope they are curated for what is useful even if underused.
