We’ve been told for decades that Washington is filled with lazy, corrupt lawmakers and civil servants. It’s always easier to believe that ‘they’ aren’t as honest and hard working as you are when you don’t know any of ‘them’ and do not understand exactly what it is they do or why it is important. Just like it is easy to believe that ‘they’ ( we’ll say poor people) are lazy, shiftless no good layabouts who just want to suck on the governed t test that decent hardworking Americans like us have to support. And it’s not fair.
Of course some members of ( whoever) are lazy and not inclined to try to better themselves through hard work. But is fucking hard to be poor—and expensive, too! Not to mention, unhealthy, scary, demoralizing and dangerous.
But it’s easier to blame the ( whatever out group you can think of) instead of actually looking at who the structure of society is serving. Increasingly, it is the very wealthy. Of course it is much more risky to challenge the rich and powerful than it is to beat up on whichever member of of whatever outgroup draws your ire because they have a big fat target drawn on their backs and a whole lot of light shining on that target. Hardest of all is looking in the mirror.
