Though, I kerp forgetting to take the ones I've got down to the Coinstar machine. Better do it ahead of the rush!

This just in from Yahoo!: Less pennies will mean making more nickels to cover small transactions. Nickels cost 13.8 cents a piece to manufacture. So along with surviving Covid and getting shot in the ear, it looks like Trump didn't get this one right either.

*This info from Americans for Common Cents, a pro-penny group.

Will it? Why?
It won't, except that humans aren't going to do the art thing here: in Europe, the "penny", the tiny, fairly cheap coin, was used to replace the nickel (the heavy worthless one), so now it's just a "penny" shaped nickel.

Trump is just proving he has no cents. ;)

Also, this will end up costing more money as nickels cost much more than pennies. So if they don't get rid of the nickel, nickel production will likely have to go up, leading to a net increase in spending.

So without pennies, how am I going to buy my gum from the gumball machine outside the dime store?
With the loss of the penny, we lose a valuable commodity to get flattened by trains.
I never enjoyed getting flattened by trains myself. But “a nickel for your thoughts” seems so inflationary.

Well, it's not as though they're recalling them. I think it will be a while before the average household runs out of pennies to flatten, turn into souvenir baubles at the zoo, soak in vinegar for a lesson in corrosion, toss into koi ponds, or press to infant's head for luck.

I have big cans full of them, if anyone wants to buy them for a low low nickel apiece!
😎
Copper is $4.59 per pound.
There are @ 146 pennies per pound.
1943-1982 pennies are 95% copper,5% zinc.
I'm too lazy to do the math.
