Skeptics often ask believers how they know that the Bible is, in fact, the true and only word of Jehovah God. How do we know it isn't the Dhammapada, the Kojiki, or any other sacred text? It's a valid question, but it can also be applied to skeptics. How do they know these texts aren't divine? The solution is both simple and obvious, yet not commonly practiced: one should read and research. Seek the answer. What one would discover is that the Bible stands out in numerous ways, including its assertions of divine inspiration and historical authenticity.

Shifting the burden of proof.

Unsupported assertion.

It's obvious to anyone who gives it thoughtful consideration that the Bible, like other religious texts is a pile of mythological bullshit. it contradicts itself endlessly. It's god is schizophrenic, or bipolar or something like that. One day Bible god is wiping out entire populations and another day he's telling people to love the poor, love your enemies and welcome the stranger etc. This mythological character is quite a mess.

I honestly don't understand how anyone can take it seriously. I recall when I went from evangelical Christian to agnostic around the age of 18. I went to church and told my church friends that we had been fooled and lied to. One of them looked at me and said: "You think too much. Don't think about it so much it". I will never forget that day. If you think too much about the Bible, you will realize that it's a book of mythology. That's all there is to it.

But hey, like Joseph Campbell said, there is a lot of power in myth. If you need some mythology in your life, and it makes you a better person, go for it, just don't use it to judge others, and don't try to destroy the SCS, like our current leaders in the US are doing.

It would only have taken a quick Google search to learn that neither the Kojiki nor the Dhammapada claim to be the "Word of God", especially not "Jehovah God" as you say. If you are so incurious about those books as to never have learned anything about them, why should anyone treat your preferred book with any more time or reverence? If you have a concrete, meaningful argument to make, perhaps you should just make it.

Or read your own Book, for that matter! The first chapter of John's Gospel makes it very clear who - not "what" - the title Logos properly belongs to. Your sins do not stop at ignorance of other traditions, but include heresy and idolatry within your own tradition, foolishly proclaiming an object made by human hands to be the equal of the living Christ. How is worshipping a book as the Christ any different than worshipping a statue or a cross as Christ? They're all made of wood and human creativity. You might have used the same paper to wipe your ass or used it as kindling for your stove burner, but because someone printed an old book onto this paper, you dare presume to grant it the same title that Jehovah God gave only to his Son and his disciples? Shall I bow down before a flat of wood pulp?

One of tyhe categorical Chriswtian arguments.

1. How do you know god exists?
2. Because god is in the bible.
3. How do yiu bi9ble bible is true?
4. Because god inspired it.
5. Go to 1.

Insofar as they do this, it is a question not about the Bible, but about knowledge.

They are not questioning your scripture, they are questioning your epistemology; And it's usually a rhetorical question. The subtext is "How can you possibly be so bad at determining what constitutes knowledge, as to believe that you know that the Bible is divinely inspired?".

Of course, one major contributing factor is your inability to recognise rhetorical forms when they are being used to manipulate your thought processes. That is, you are a sucker for propaganda, and it's probably too late for you to save yourself.

I've never heard of that happening.

What I have commonly heard happening is a religionist claiming to speak for God. Claiming that the Bible is, in fact, the true and only word of Jehovah God. But when asked "Why would I believe that? It doesn't make any sense to me." the answer is a variation on "First you have to believe that I am speaking for God. Then God will reveal Himself to you directly."

That's not worked for me since I was in single digits age.

Well, my personal opinion is that no one, except the prophets and logos (spokesperson) has ever spoke for Jehovah God and all of them are dead. Their work is done. But if the Bible doesn't make sense to you, or if you aren't interested in the subject of God and his purpose and word then you shouldn't bother with it.

The problem for us atheists is that despite constitutional prohibitions against mixing church and state Christians are intent on forcing Chrtianity on others as a matter of government policy.

You came here of your own accord denouncing and attacking atheists and we respond to the basis of your attacks, the Holy Babble. If you don't like it don't post.

If you want to preach and evangelize without criticism there are plenty of street corners and your own website.

\My personal view is you are welcome to your beliefs, just leave me as an atheist out of your narrative out in the world.

Keep in mind. This is all in good fun. . . .

Awww. That's democracy, huh? Mess with the bull you get the horns, snowflake. Don't be a sore loser.

I've told you; I don't have a problem with atheists or atheism. Just dumb fake ideology. Theistic more so than atheistic. That's why certain people have a problem with me. If you don't like that, you don't respond to me. The real problem people like you have is that you want the control the theist idiots have. Meet the new boss . . .

If you want to preach and evangelize without criticism there are plenty of street corners and your own website.

Criticism?! It isn't the criticism I mind. I would like some constructive thoughtful criticism. It's the harpies I can't stand.

THIS is [scrolls] an infidel forum on religious text. I post on it, the religion, the existence of Gods and the religion vs science forums. Guess what? I don't bother the political idiots. Guess what? I don't have a political forum on my website forum [checks]. Of course, there also isn't any people there, but I digress. Guess why? I live and let live. Kiflom. brother, brother.

YOU are the ones complaining about what really isn't any of your business so YOU are the ones who shouldn't mind a little criticism or be surprised when someone calls you on it. In fact, if you had any sense, you would expect it.

THE REAL problem with just a few of you is that you can't stand that not everyone thinks like you. And I know that you think the sun shines out your ass because a few of the louder ones give you a good slap on the back - you got the whole groupthink thing goin' on - but to everyone outside your - tribe or pack - or whatever you apes, you animals call it - sees it differently.

ME?! I only look like an idiot because I don't ignore you.

PHASE II man! The evolution has happened! Get with the times!

My personal view is you are welcome to your beliefs, just leave me as an atheist out of your narrative out in the world.

Bullshit.

Good fun? You started off by attacking atheists being deceptive about what you believe.

You probably thought you were being clever, your phase 1 , but people had you figured out at the start.

You are still not answering questions. Like how do you know the bible is the word of a god. What is and what is not the absolute word of god to be followed in the bible?

What do you think of the New Testament? Did Jesus walk on water and rise from the dead.

Good fun?

Oh, absolutely. People always misunderstand me [sniff] because I don't fit in anywhere [sniff, sniff] what is that smell?!

You started off by attacking atheists being deceptive about what you believe.

FALSE!!! You see criticism as an attack. I have only EVER been the absolute persona of grace and humility!

You probably thought you were being clever,

Well [he said with just a hint of smug self-righteous modesty] i have to admit . . . .

your phase 1 , but people had you figured out at the start.

I think I have the intellectual capacity of Winnie the Pooh, so don't flatter yourself. And anyway, you didn't figure anything out. You are a few toothless sharks in a skeptic tank. The cheek!

You are still not answering questions.

I always answer questions. If I see them. You don't listen.

Like how do you know the bible is the word of a god.

I've answered that. I don't. For fuck's sake, not only did I answer it I started a thread on it. I asked it. You don't listen. [sniff]

What is and what is not the absolute word of god to be followed in the bible?

The Bible was written for the people in the time and place it was written.

What do you think of the New Testament?

There is no such thing. It's a Latin mistranslation. There is no Old or New Testament.

Did Jesus walk on water and rise from the dead.

Yes. Where's @pood Where's your sock?

Ooo, good work! That ought to do it. And I thought you were reasonable. You haven't commented on it. You just give the link? Why would you do that?

Bet that will get some attention, huh? It's all about the ratings. How come the Dumacrat solution is always first to silence the opposition? What do they have up their sleeves?

What are your theological political views on gay rights and those pesky blacks, Latinos, and Asians we have(legally} in our country? And those Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, and Baha'i?

Can you give an example if it contradicting itself, please?

It's god is schizophrenic, or bipolar or something like that. One day Bible god is wiping out entire populations and another day he's telling people to love the poor, love your enemies and welcome the stranger etc. This mythological character is quite a mess.

Again examples? There must be some reason for it.

I honestly don't understand how anyone can take it seriously. I recall when I went from evangelical Christian to agnostic around the age of 18. I have family like that who suddenly became political. i can't understand it. It appears they just want a scapegoat. If their political party is in charge everything is fine. Even though all of the evidence points against it.

But hey, like Joseph Campbell said, there is a lot of power in myth. If you need some mythology in your life, and it makes you a better person, go for it, just don't use it to judge others, and don't try to destroy the SCS, like our current leaders in the US are doing.

Yeah, I hear that a lot from my family.

... It's a valid question, but it can also be applied to skeptics. How do they know these texts aren't divine?

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

The Bible has obvious fictions and contradictions. Jehovah God instructs a particular ethnic group to destroy an enemy, killing all their men, women, children, sheep, goats and cows. (Is this the same Jehovah God that Jesus speaks of? I suppose killing the women to protect them from womanizers is a point in Jehovah's favor, but why kill the sheep and goats?)

Why don't YOU take up the challenge: Can YOU prove that Dracula by Bram Stoker is not the One-and-Only True Word of God? For extra credit PROVE that The Rocky Horror Show is NOT the True Vision of Odin, Chief God of the Norse.

I'll offer one piece of evidence. Most Americans who believe that the Bible is the One-and-Only True Word of God also believe that Donald J. Trump is the modern-day incarnation of Cyrus the Great, Shah of Persia. But then why did John of Patmos prohibit these Christians from celebrating the deeds of Shah Trump the Great in their Holy Book? Read the verse in the final chapter of the Holy Bible immediately after the pornographic verse 17:

The Apocalypse of John said:
17. The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.

18. I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll.
