Buttigieg Presidential Campaign

The "woo the center-right" strategy is failing and is continuing to fail. The Democrats don't just need to court gay votes, though throwing away our support is stupid. What they should be doing, with all of the constituencies from which they have long drawn support, is rebuild the relationships they have broken with their apathy and stupidity, and give people a reason to believe that they have something to gain from voting Democrat, not just something to lose if they don't.
Apathy? I don’t think so. If you are thinking about apathy, talk to the voters who stayed home.

Side note; I am still fuming that the party listened to know nothing celebrities and forced Biden out.
I'm thinking it was a little more complicated than "know nothing celebrities" complaining. Biden lost the debate with Trump and badly so. Again, no one wins debates, but they can lose them... well except Trump... the world just operates different to the guy who rants 19th Century anti-immigrant language.
I have nothing against Harris but surely we should have learned something from the Trump-Hillary match up,
Harris was the only other option, short of maybe Michelle Obama, who'd likely more prefer burning at a stake than injecting herself into politics. Harris had instant name recognition. Her problem was she was as connected to "inflation" as Biden was.

Harris was the only person of any gender or color who had instant access to the campaign’s war chest.
There was literally no other option after Sleepy Joe fucked up the debate.
Seeing how the Harris debate, which Trump TOTALLY fucked up, didn’t detract from his support, I’m not sure that it even mattered that Joe dropped out.
Russian propaganda was going to prevail, regardless.

Her problem was that she is black and female.

I hate that as much as any person can but I think that, as unfortunate ( racist/sexist/backward/disgusting) as it is: anything other than an established straight white man V Trump just allows irrational bigoted fears to outweigh good sense and decency or even self interest for anyone other than the billionaire class

I watched that debate and Joe was clearly not physically well but on content/answers, he creamed Trump just as Hillary did. No reasonable person could have concluded that Trump had more than a very tenuous grasp of issues.

What is ‘more complicated’ is that a bunch of rich celebrities thought they could out bid Trump’s backers. They were wrong.

It is wrong for anyone to be able to purchase an election.

It’s competing with women. Not “biological” women, just women.
Hey, you should be thankful I scrapped my original plan of referring to biological women as individuals with a cervix. :sneaky:
I no longer have a cervix, uterus or ovaries but I am definitely a woman who carried 4 pregnancies to term and gave birth.

Of course, and if I were to remove my penis and testicles I would still definitely be a man/male.

Her problem was that she is black and female.
I disagree.

Kamala Harris had a lot of flaws as a candidate that were unrelated to her sex and skin color. Reducing her loss to those two attributes makes it too easy on her.
Also, she had a tough hand because Biden took so long to go into that good night.

I have seven cervical vertebrae. Does that count?
I'm not sure. Human biology is changing so fast in recent years, its hard to keep up.
By "recent years" you reference your pointed ignorance of anything discovered about human biology since 1859, when intersex individuals were first documented within the annals of Western medicine?

ALL candidates have a lot of flaws. Without the concerted disinformation campaign put forth by enemy nations, Trump is absolutely nothing but fatal flaws.

There must be tens of trans women trying to compete in women's sports competition.

That being said, I'm one liberal who is against testosterone exposed trans women competing in women's sports. There are trans women that actually agree with this.

I am in favour of sports using things other than gender as a tiering system.

In most cases, weight, or height, or bodyfat:muscle ratio, or testosterone:oestrogen ratio, or red corpuscle count, or some combination of these and other objective factors would make more sense than gender; If such a system happened to produce a top division dominated by men, then so be it - but there should be no bar to any qualifying athlete of any gender or none competing in any specified division.

And the lower divisions, particularly if they are numerous, and have both minimum and maximum qualifying stats, would enable ordinary non-athletes to participate without being humiliated by elite participants.

Some sports already do this sort of thing, though they tend to first divide participants by gender, for no particularly obvious reason (other than tradition, if you want to call tradition a "reason").

My daughter was a college volleyball player. She and the other girls were very good and very strong. The net for women is 7'4" and the net for men is 7'11". My kid played in some coed competitive matches with other college players and girls held their own against the guys. So the net is higher for men because men can jump higher. I used to shag balls during practice when she was in club ball and I can tell you that these girls know how to hit. But when an opponent and easily clear a 7'4 net, they are in a position to add more power to hit the ball down at the other players. Aside from on the court - for the first two years of college, she attended on a Title IX scholarship. To have a woman who has played all their life to lose a scholarship to a trans player because the physical advantage inherent in males isn't fair to them. Even if that player is on hormones and has had reassignment surgery, they will still tend to be stronger than biological women. And call me a hater if you must, but if they have NOT had reassignment surgery, they do not belong on women's teams.

True, there just a few overall. But one trans athlete can disenfranchise or discourage quite a few girls and women from getting athletic awards, scholarships, or even just enjoying a competitive game among peers. Not to mention privacy violations by their use of the girls lockeroom, etc. And yes, it is not uncommon for transwomen to disagree with competing against biological women. Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner being the most notable.

I wonder about the mindset, though, of many transwomen athletes. When they win, its often such a hollow victory. Do they not realize that? Is it narcissicm, or the joy of bullying those weaker than them that enables them to do this?

Did you even read the rest of my post?

Clearly the relevant criterion here is not the player's gender, but how tall they are or how high they can jump - either or both of which is easy to measure. The net should be set at a height appropriate to how tall the players are.

With teams divided in this way, there would be no "women's teams", but someone who is 6'3" would be barred from playing in the under 5' 6" division, to the benefit of anyone of short stature who wants to play without being dominated by taller players.

The fact is that people crowing about this are in bad faith.

People are not losing their scholarships to trans players.

It's just a completely disingenuous argument.

These folks number in the tens! There are tens of them, in their massive legions coming for sports, whole tens of them, I say.

Be warned, they are coming for your women's sports. By the tens!

And most of them still get trounced by biological women. Because biological women have MORE hormones and WAY more testosterone than these folks.

We better *checks project 2025 notes*... Send them to gulags in foreign countries to be *checks notes again*... Reeducated through forced labor in their duty to serve the state until *checks notes*... Death.

ALL candidates have a lot of flaws.
No candidate is perfect, so all candidates have flaws. But not all candidates have A LOT OF flaws. And not all candidates are equally flawed.
Kamala Harris is more flawed than most of the candidates who would have participated in the 2024 primary had Biden done the right thing and withdrew in Summer 2023.
Without the concerted disinformation campaign put forth by enemy nations, Trump is absolutely nothing but fatal flaws.
And yet Kamala Harris lost bigly. Dems made a mistake making her their standard bearer, brat summer and coconut trees notwithstanding.
