Are people already regretting their choice?

A big part of tRump thing is some people just cannot admit they were wrong. To them it is a sign of weakness. It really is just a sign of arrested development. A mature person sees it as a quality.
It is fear much more than anything else and I see the same fear on both sides for much different reasons. I could be wrong but I don't think either side is going to admit anything until they feel much less individual fear.

It was a publicity stunt that got out of hand.
But who suggested it?

He ran because of Obama and the 2011 White House Correspondents' dinner.

I don't know that there has ever been a bigger snowflake than Trump.

Who cares?
Mark Burnett, the limey who produced the Show that made The Donald a Star, was among the first to surmise that the Dolt could be sold to the public, playing the real life fictional Billionaire that he played on The Apprentice.
Who cares?
Not enough people to keep that festering syphilitic gasbag from attaining the presidency. Maybe in a year and a half. But maybe that’s too late.

I feel some medium-strong pang of desire on a regular basis to text someone unused to work under with the question of whether he is "entertained" enough yet.

He is a gay man, and voted for Trump 3 times, because he thought it would be entertaining.

Does the second link contain a working video? All I get is
Video unavailable
This video is not available

I'll guess this is the same problem that used to produce the message "This video is not available in your country" but the "in your country" has been removed for some reason. It seems odd that PBS would block that video. Search for "frontline trump 2016" at YouTube and find at least TWO 1-hour PBS specials on Trump's election that appear to be intact AND available in my country.

I don't know if the first link has a video or not: It hits a paywall.

CNN still shows a 5-minute excerpt from the 2011 speech on YouTube. I'd seen it years ago, but I loved watching it again. The brilliance of Barack Obama is a refreshing relief from the dull ignorance pervading today's dystopia.

2011! Oh, to be young and carefree again! When Donald J. Trump was purely a laughingstock, with his Presidential aspirations no more than the confused wet dreams of a retarded 6th-grade bully who's just discovered his penis. May America become Great like that Again!

I still wonder if there is SOME book or news article that would awaken intelligent Trumpists. Rasmussen Reports shows 52% approve of Trump as of yesterday! Only 37% strongly disapprove.

This despite that Trump's economic "ideas" are disconcerting both investors and expert economists. Our own Trumpist has asserted that recession or stagflation in 2028 will NOT convince him that Trump's policies were wrong! It takes time for great ideas to prove themselves! (Ancient Greeks knew the world was round, but it was 2000 years before Christopher Columbus acted on that knowledge.)

One of the simplest ways to understand what investors around the world think of Trumponomics is to look at the values assigned to monetary reserves. The Dollar is collapsing relative to other major currencies (Euro, Yen) and even more so relative to the old-fashioned reserve: Gold. Just now I stopped at Lotus' to buy milk and saw the up-to-date automated signs at the two gold shops there: ฿54500 (midprice). Fifty-four!? Last I saw it was 52; I should have stopped by yesterday to see 53. If I'd waited until tomorrow to buy milk will it then be 55?

No need to Google the international price of gold. Simple arithmetic does the trick.
54500 / 33.16 / 0.472952 / 31.1 = $111.74
(The first division converts bahts to dollars; the 2nd 96.50-fine baht weight to 99.99-fine troy ounce; the 3rd ounce to gram.)

My gold purchases a few years back were mainly just a hedge and have been partly sold as I split my savings among my children. Still the gold left is equivalent (if sold today) to two years of SocSec checks -- probably very fortunate for me as there seems to be a fair chance Trump will manage to cut off my SocSec.

Why has the price of gold been skyrocketing? RV is correct that rising debt (in many countries, many sectors, not just the U.S. Treasury) is the main reason, but the recent soaring has a more specific cause. Spoiler: It's because the U.S. government has been taken over by a coven of literal imbeciles.

The Orange Brat is so very very proud of his Second Global Trade War. But
The Lowy Institute analysis found that in 2023, 112 economies traded more than TWICE as much with China as they did with the US, up from 92 in 2018 during Trump’s first trade war.
...
“From critical minerals to silicon chips, Chinese exports are almost irreplaceable.”
As shown in the attached graphic, trade with China is as important to the world as trade with the USA. China has announced that countries which appease the Orange Brat will be viewed with extreme disfavor by China. The Brat's War may backfire on him.

But as I say, our resident apologist for Faux/Trump/QAnon (who bases his Trumpism almost entirely on financial issues) will NOT be dissuaded even if it takes more than 4 years to recover from this self-imposed financial debacle. Is there any other issue that might get through to such a Trumpist?

This thread's title makes it look like the right place to point out facts that will help educate sincere but under-informed Trumpists.

Can we do it? ...
  • I assume it will do no good to point out that much of what Trump says is a lie. MAGATs treat these lies as sarcasm, comedy, and/or antidotes to liberal lies.
  • I assume that deporting green-card holders to a prison in El Salvador for denouncing Trump on social media will not bother MAGAts. Dissent is not what is needed for our brave new world. And anyway, America is for Americans.
  • Trump's ignorance and refusal to listen to expert advice will not sway the MAGAts. Trump is an idiot-savant whose instincts and intuition outperform a dozen platoons of PhDs.
  • Musk's decimation of the SSA, which will lead to people not getting their checks. doesn't bother MAGAts. Even retired MAGAts are happy to sacrifice for the greater good. We have to start paying off the $36 trillion debt somehow; depriving useless retirees makes more sense than denying another tax cut to the billionaires who will help Make America Great Again.
  • Decimating the IRS is also a step in the right direction. Liberals are suckers who will pay their taxes even if the IRS lacks the wherewithal to audit. Republicans now free to cheat will instead donate to charity or Create Jobs with the extra money.
  • Character issues like harassing and even raping women are no drawback. We NEED a virile man to confront Denmark and our other enemies. Anyway, wouldn't YOU be grabbing pussy if you were a billionaire and a star?
  • Some Democrats are whining that Trump's government will no longer provide security for Kamala Harris, Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden's children. But the American taxpayer isn't "made of money"!! What better way to save money? Anyway, unlike Trump's family, these scumbags grifted millions from the taxpayer and can pay for their own security.
I could go on, but you see the problem: MAGAts have an answer for most complaints.

Surely there is SOME way to lead MAGAts (at least the few that aren't primarily motivated by hatreds and self-pity) to the Trough of Knowledge. But how?

Can anyone help?

Linked from the PBS story.

Same problem. As I say there are related YouTubes that DO work including some long PBS shows! I remain curious why CNN, PBS etc. do this to some of their videos. Is Thailand on a small list of targets, or does the prohibition apply to most countries outside U.S.?

(I really need a VPN but finding ways to spend even MORE time on the 'Net than I already do is NOT a priority for me!)

Brave of you to assume that they read.

They likely only read one book ever. And their "news" comes from TV or YouTwitFace.

I understand that Trump himself refuses to read reports and briefings. He wants pictures and video only.

Yup. Trump has certainly made Stoopid great again. He makes idiots feel so good about being idiots.

He's only 224 pounds.
In Trump's first term his doctors reports said he was 239, which is the just below the definition of "Obese". So he was not obese. I shared this pic of me when I weighed 242. I was obese and he wasn't.

The answer to the question in thread title is No. The latest Rasmussen Daily Report shows 50% Approval.
Not according to Newsweek:
In the poll, Trump has an overall approval rating of 40 percent compared to a disapproval rating of 59 percent. The survey shows that 44 percent of men approve of the job the president is doing compared to 55 percent who disapprove.

Trump fares worse with women, as 37 percent approve of the job he's doing compared to 62 percent who disapprove

Interesting that the male-female difference is only 3%. I thought Trump was a "man"'s man.

Can't explain the difference between the two polls, but here is the latest Rasmussen Report. He fell from 50% to 49% since yesterday. The Rasmussen page makes an attempt to explain things, beginning with
Some readers wonder how we come up with our job approval ratings for the president since they often don’t show as dramatic a change as some other pollsters do. It depends on how you ask the question and whom you ask....
