Looks like you're misunderstanding "in order to". I was making a claim about the apparent psychology of the people enacting and implementing affirmative action practices, not a claim about whether racism is ongoing. As far as I can tell from progressives' lines of argument and observed behavior, whether the people of some group are currently being discriminated against forms no part of progressives' typical criteria for deciding whether AA measures on its behalf are warranted. Racism against blacks and sexism against women could end tomorrow and it would have a negligible effect on most progressives' enthusiasm for AA, imho. Quite the reverse -- the whole "structural racism" discourse that's become so fashionable lately is engineered to justify AA without depending on exhibiting any actual bigot who actually discriminated against a proposed AA beneficiary.Am I misunderstanding the word previously here? (emphasis mine)
(snip)
That's not what's been going on here, though. That's a self-congratulatory myth progressivism trains its believers to tell themselves about their interactions with the infidel. What you and other progressives here have been posting in support of, and what others have posted in opposition to, are not basic human rights. Where do you think you are, a same-sex-marriage thread? This is a thread about Affirmative Action. I.e., it's a squabble over the merits of progressives' prevailing practice of putting their thumb on the scale when individuals are being compared for purposes of selecting candidates for jobs, slots in colleges, contracts and so forth, in order to make up for the disadvantages candidates in selected groups face as a result of the lingering effects of other thumb-on-the-scale actions that had been previously taken against those groups.

Certainly. There are demonstrable harms that are done against people who aren't white cis het able males
That doesn't follow.and DEIA is an attempt to redress those harms.
You're assuming it says "miltary" and that it's a misspelling of "military". Actually it says "MILTARY". It's an acronym. It stands forWhen you see it...

No, it’s not photoshop.
While Eric Schmitt complains about DEI, his staff created a graphic with the word “miltary” written for all to see…
I don’t see any women or Black folks represented…a little DEI may have avoided this blunder.
That aide in the back looks like he just noticed it too, and he was the one tasked with writing the presentation. When you see it...

What's your evidence that it's 19th-century Confederate racist slang? According to my googling it's southern African-American slang; and the only site I found that said how old the word is dated it to circa 1910.You should write the Racist Thesaurus, so that those of us unfamiliar with C19th Confederate racist slang can understand your posts without having to Google. She's a redbone.

Here are a few more:Plenty of things:What did Harris do wrong,
- called for banning all fracking and offshore drilling
- attacked Biden over the stupid 70s forced bussing policies
- tweeted that Michael Brown was "murdered" when, as a prosecutor, she must have known better
- overspent during her 2020 campaign so that it went broke early despite great initial fundraising
Do you really want untrained people fighting fires? Especially wildfires that are notorious for their semi-unpredictable behaviour. Here are a few more:Plenty of things:What did Harris do wrong,

It looks like CS meant Harris was the only candidate in 2024, when she was selected without a primary. It was in 2020 that she wasn't the only candidate and was good enough that Biden won.No one ever said Harris was the ONLY candidate it she was apparently good enough that Biden won. ...... Harris was the best possible candidate? She was the ONLY candidate. She didn't even make it a full year in her 2020 campaign, and she polling in the single digits by that point. The Democratic Party didn't take a look around to see who had the best chance at winning; they chose someone based on their ideology. It IS equality now (that is the point). ALL persons are considered for positions. Not just white, cis-gen males. How do you NOT see this? That in many instances the best choice is NOT A WHITE MALE. NO ONE is excluding white men - they are just considering ALL options and choosing the best one. In Biden's case, that was a black woman. Why is this so hard for you to comprehend?
...
by 1886 in American English in reference to a type of hound bred in the South, with a red or red and tan coat, used especially to hunt raccoons and fugitives. The name probably has some connection to the term Redbone as used in 19c. southern U.S. to denote a mulatto or mixed-race culture.
Wildland firefighters I have spoken to (not at great length) about that very question, are not fans.Do you really want untrained people fighting fires?
We have a fixation with racism, and skin color is a proxy. Racists don’t fixate on color or race, they just want white people (themselves) to remain supreme. And Derec claims we have a fixation skin color.

What were the circumstances regarding the First Amendment situation? When USA becomes a truly civilized nation, then maybe misinformation will not have FA protection.
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) runs 44 conservation camps (also called fire camps) jointly with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) and the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The mission of the Conservation Camp program is to "support state, local and federal government agencies as they respond to emergencies such as fires, floods, and other natural or manmade disasters." Over 3,000 incarcerated people work at the conservation camps each year, including men, women, and juveniles, all of whom have volunteered for the program. All volunteers receive the same entry-level training as CAL FIRE's seasonal firefighters.
Pretty certain you don't give a flying fuck about any of those things. You're not fooling anyone redcap. Here are a few more:

Pretty certain the reason you're pretty certain of that is because I'm an unbeliever in your dogma. Can you explain why it is that you don't give a damn whether the things you say about unbelievers are true?Pretty certain you don't give a flying ... about any of those things. Here are a few more:

I'm guessing you don't mean I'm one of these...You're not fooling anyone redcap.
