Dem Post Mortem

We'd be a lot safer and better off than we are now

lol, unlikely.
You're kidding, right? USA economy and society is being ripped apart. USA is losing trillions of dollars, and has lost respect of its allies.
Trump is causing estrangment of those allies, and is loathed and laughed at throughout the world, always embarrassing himself and the USA.
He is also causing immense suffering for millions of Americans, many of who will die as a result, just as happened with Covid in his first term.

Really? That’s your measure of success?

Oil is down too. But that’s because of serious concerns over a general economic collapse. Lots of prices may come down soon. Just like they did in 1930 -1933.

Oil got down into negative value territory last time the apricot was “in charge”.
Makes up for whatever Swiz might lose, right?

Yet the price of gasoline is up significantly.

lol, of course not. It’s just that eggs seemed to be a bit of a talking point for a few on here.

why is oil down, is it because there is more being produced?

Oil is no longer a liability, so yeah, gas is up.
But the national average price for regular gasoline was $1.77 per gallon on April 27, 2020. Yay Trumpo! A million dead Americans is a small price to pay for such a blessing. In fact customers in Wisconsin paid as little as 89 cents per gallon, and some stations in Kentucky offered gas at 99 cents per gallon during March and April 2020 - how are ya gonna beat that, Kamala?
My highschool girlfriend was in Nepal during the pandemic and was moved to tears, as she was able to clearly see Sagarmatha (Mt Everest) from downtown Kathmandu, for the first time in decades. Yay Trumpo!

Trump claimed last month that gasoline prices had fallen as low as $1.98 in a couple of states. On Friday, Trump voiced a similar assertion on social media, saying, "Gasoline just broke $1.98 a Gallon, lowest in years."

The nationwide average price of a gallon of gasoline stands at $3.18, AAA data shows. No state boasts an average price close to $1.98, the data shows.

In Mississippi, the state with the lowest average price, a gallon of gas costs $2.66, AAA says.
Why can't they say Trump lied? Cowards.

No. Oil is down due to concerns over the economy.

Have the Dems done the post-mortem yet? What were the conclusions?
They decided they need to try to make an appeal to the middle again. Only even more so.

Gavin Newsom started a podcast where he talks about how sympathetic he feels towards conservatives. I'm sure their hearts are melting as we speak.

So no post-mortem done then?
Burning $1,000,000,00 (or thereabouts) on a failed campaign would certainly cause me to wish a post-mortem be done (though a resurrection would be better)

I'm not a big fan of Newsome. He seems too slick. However, I'm willing to give anyone a chance. Lets wait and see. He is one of the very few politicians fighting back against Trumps tariffs. Congress is the entity that is suppose to enact taxes and tariffs. Not the President. Newsome is doing more than the entire congress right now trying to fight the tariffs.

No, that is the post-mortem. They looked back carefully over the whole thing, and came to the conclusion that what they need to do is the same thing over again. That is their conclusion. They are the party of "never change", and they have to stay on brand.

I love the abuse here. Why are the Democrats letting themselves be beat?

Firstly, the Democrats barely lost at all. This isn't being a sore loser, it is recognizing the actual results. The House barely budged and the Senate was fiercely competitive and the Democrats could have lost a lot more, but the General Election was close enough that they did manage to keep the +/- respectable. There was no red wave. Sadly no blue wave, but ultimately Trump would win, but there wasn't much of a mandate.

Secondly, no matter who the Democrat that replaced Biden is, inflation was inflation and the GOP sold inflation like it was Argentina. The Democrat candidate couldn't make that disappear. The Democrat couldn't sell economic growth, wage growth that was occurring, but the people didn't see it and they would have been considered "out of touch" with the populace. They couldn't be the change candidate. Trump technically could.

Thirdly, GOP's aggressive and effective microtargeted advertising. I'm uncertain the research on it, but I'm pretty certain the GOP targeted specific groups in specific regions. This is due to observing swings in minority votes not being widespread, but localized.

Fourthly, in line with secondly, economic numbers matter more to moderate Americans than personal rights. The big wild card was what impact Dobbs have on the election. The answer was 'almost none'.

According to national exit polls, most women voters supported Vice President Kamala Harris. But 45% of all women supported Trump — and 57% of them said abortion should be legal in all or most cases.
The Democrats pushed hard on Dobbs, which oddly helped more in the mid-term than the General Election. Which is kind of the opposite it usually goes.

Fifthly, anti-transgender shit. I get you live in Australia and you don't have any exposure to media in the US. But as a person who lived in a competitive House district and Senate race and watching GT Racing on YouTube, 3/4 or more of the GOP adds on YouTube were about children sex change operations, transgenders in girls locker rooms. There were very few ads for the actual GOP candidates. The anti-transgender stuff has been going hard for a last several years on cable/radio right-wing media sources. As if it was that big of a plank in the Democrat platform. The GOP is really good at messaging stuff like this. Lewinsky/Honor, Swift Boat Vets, anti-Muslim Obama stuff.

Traditionally, the dems that are more moderate get the most votes: Clinton; Obama; HRC; Biden, Gore and etc get more votes. Whenever we go more left: Kerry, Harris, Waltz, Dukakis, and etc we get less votes. But regardless, we'll have an open primary in 28. Anyone can run. 'm for a big tent party. Let's invite everyone. And the person who gets the most votes will get my vote. But, imo, we need a person who can appeal to a broad range of diverse voters and who can appeal to the voters in the swing states.

Then we should be fine, right? Good thing we had that post-mortem. We'll barely-win the next one for sure.

Firstly, the Democrats barely lost at all.
What's this barely lost nonsense? There are NO 2nd prizes for losing a US presidental contest. It does not matter whether you lost by 1 vote or a million. You still lost. This is not the Olympics. Only gold is awarded, not silver, nor bronze.
This isn't being a sore loser, it is recognizing the actual results. I can understand what you are telling me "Look over there - a drop bear". The Democrats lost the one that counted. Again no prizes for 2nd.
