Fuck CBS. They bow to trump

How expensive can the late night show possibly be?
I am sure the salary they pay Colbert himself is quite hefty. Also, in his farewell speech, Colbert mentioned that the show has a staff of 200. That is quite a lot for a late night show, and explains why they are losing money. This show has a format that was developed when the networks commanded almost all of the eyeballs. It still worked when cable diluted those eyeballs. But in this streaming era, there was even more dilution, and with that come much lower revenues.

Colbert will be back in some way I am sure. Probably with a show that is much cheaper to produce, with a smaller staff and maybe no live band either.

Just canceled my Disney plus. Maybe if enough people do it they’ll see some kind of impact. Their shows were mostly junk anyway. Especially after what they did to Star Wars and Marvel.

I'm only exercising my First Amendment Rights in the US by saying the left desperately need to exercise their Second Amendment Rights in the US.
We don't actually have either under this administration. But of course, this wasn't the law cracking down, was it? Not really.

Considering how incestuous FOX is with both Trump administrations, I'm gonna say it's a distinction with no meaningful difference.

I canceled a few weeks ago. Because I have too many streaming things. Now I am glad I did.
I have a cousin who has worked for Disney for many years. He is close to retirement. i wonder if this will change his plans. He however has a great last gig on their tour boats.

I have also wanted for a while to reduce the costs of my streaming services but I was happy this one cancellation could be timed to appear as a political statement.

If a new Mt. Rushmore is built, the first face carved should be Rush Limbaugh. There was always some sort of political shitforbrains on the radio, but he turned it into what Fox News became. He relentlessly attacked the "liberal media" on a daily basis to his audience of millions. Eventually Rupert realized that there was a demographic waiting to be exploited.

Tell 'em what they want to hear no matter how absurd it is and put it terms that would fire up a fourth grader. Gather the village idiots in one place, give them a loud voice, and scare the shit out of them and anyone adjacent to them. Make them feel like insiders and intellectuals by giving their collective idiocy merit.

Why pick up a book about history or how political movements came about and what their philosophies are when you can click on a brightly colored internet article that has big fonts and is three paragraphs long. Don't need no book learnins for that! And now they know even more than those who dedicated their lives to intellectual pursuits.

Fuck it. Whatever. It feels like authoritarianism's momentum has reached a critical point such that it's unstoppable. I think it's been that way for a while and now we're standing right in front of the train.

AP said:
Kimmel’s comments about Kirk’s death “are offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse,” said Andrew Alford, president of Nexstar’s broadcasting division.

Too bad Andy didn’t notice that about Trump.

They are at high tide, no doubt. But if they mess up the economy bad enough, or if they put the dynamite under Social Security (for 27% of SS recipients, it's their sole source of income, for another 20%, it's over 75% of their income, and consider how many of these folks currently support the Bronze Beast), that could all change. Clearly a disastrous pandemic won't dislodge Trump, because he already dragged us through one of those. And clearly they don't care about his cussing and his treasonous support of the Capitol rioters. That's all fake news. But if your monthly check stops or is gouged, that aint fake.

The following would happen:

1. Trump would tell them the economy is great and they'll believe it.

2. He'd tell them it's all the Democrats fault and they'll believe it.

3. He'll blame immigrants, Antifa, and "the radical left" and they'll believe it.

They've eschewed their own senses, morality, and reality for their beloved orange shitpants. They watched as loved ones died during the pandemic while Trump denied it was happening. He bungled it as badly as possible and they still love him.

There's no rationale that can be used to change their minds. I have a friend whom I've agreed to not discuss politics with. He's a nurse and he called covid fake until it came to his hospital. "It wasn't thing but now it is." He literally said that. Once in a while he'll shit out some comment like "There goes Democrats name calling again."

The world they live in is impervious to reality.

Another one bites the dust. The writing has been on the wall for these shows for a while and I never watched any of them, they are on too late for me. I remember Kimmel from his KROQ days and that was a long time ago.

Seems like the media consolidation in general may supersede political censorship as a going concern. Sure the GOP is leveraging mergers to punish critics but it is as or more concerning that the mergers are allowed period. It just makes it worse, or perhaps it is an inevitable consequence of looming oligarchy, that the mergers are contingent upon paid tribute.

I was thinking we are overlapping late 18th Century quite a bit at this point with media consolidation/influence, corporate consolidation, and abuse of national guard troop usage, disease prevention. All we need is some third-party creating the 21st Century version of The Pinkerton Agency, though at the moment that seems to be the FBI.

I've had a fear for awhile that Blackwater Security and similar groups would be the modern Baldwin-Felts or Pinkerton groups. I learned a lot when those woke commies at a state ag/tech university required science majors to take humanities courses and such to round things out.
