Relevant to the bigger issue of gun crime is this idiotic decision by the Hennepin County DA, soft-on-crime Mary Moriarty:

Hennepin County Attorney's Office halts prosecution triggered by traffic stops for minor violations

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty announced Wednesday that her office will no longer prosecute cases stemming from traffic stops triggered by minor violations that do not pose a public safety risk.
The policy, effective Oct. 15, covers stops for infractions such as expired registration tabs, broken taillights, cracked windshields, and other non-dangerous equipment violations.

Expired registration may also mean an unlicensed or uninsured driver. Equipment violations can definitely be a safety issue.
But these stops can also serve to uncover more serious crimes that MM will now refuse to prosecute.
And why? The go-to reason for so many poor decisions by Democrats - race.

“Non-public-safety traffic stops harm our community, especially Black and Brown residents,”

Dems talk a good game about gun control, but their solutions usually boil down to restricting the rights of law-abiding citizens. While at the same time making it harder for police to catch actual gun criminals.

The Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association criticized the policy, saying in a statement that “guns, drugs, and fugitives discovered during traffic stops will now walk free, while officers are left powerless to act.”

But what do you expect from a DA who hired a child murderer to work on her campaign. Note that he was caught on gun and drug charges because of a traffic stop.

Well, that sounds worse than I thought it originally was. I don't think I want more details. I mean, if it was targeted against immigrants, that is deplorable. If it was targeted at ICE agents, it was deplorable. If it was some madman... him having a gun to allow this to happen is deplorable.

They are reporting anti-ICE messages on rounds at the shooting location.

Rothrock said that rounds were found near the shooter that contained “messages that are anti-ICE in nature.”

Have rounds gotten larger so they can act like billboards or is this a thing these days that you can buy rounds with all sorts of stuff written on them?

Also, two straight targeted shootings... with rounds having messages? It is possible, but it feels peculiar.

I'm not a killer, so I can't really know for certain, but if I was angry enough to kill over a political thing such as being against ICE, I can think of multiple other things that could be inscripted on the casings other than "Anti-ICE" that would provide a conduit for such rage. Also... in ink?

Also, I know nothing about guns... but those rounds look... big.

Enough people that "Talk" is the only likely (excuse for a) measure to deal with it that is going to occur in the foreseeable future.

For longer distance shooting/sniping you want a bigger bullet, because of the more favorable kinetic energy to drag ratio. The Charlie Kirk shooter used a .308 if I am not mistaken. Hell, for serious military sniping they use much larger bullets like .50 BMG (used in AR50) or the even bigger 14.7x114mm bullet used in the Snipex Alligator.
And powerful rifles, even AR15 which uses a small (5.56 mm or 0.223 inches) bullet, have large cartridges compared to handgun/low power rifles because of powder needed to accelerate the bullet to very high muzzle velocities.
Here are some common cartridges side by side.

That is a more salient point. But he was probably not a trained shooter, and he might have just missed.
Apparently he was shooting at a van, which makes that scenario more plausible.
