Belarus is heavily dependent on Russia through debt, subsidized energy, and trade. But one thing's for sure, Lukashenka does not want to be seen as a belligerent on par with Putin. Putin has to use economic coercion to keep pressing Lukashenka in edging closer to Belarusian offensive action against Ukraine. It hasn't worked, isn't working, and is doubtful to work going forward. The shutting down of the repeaters on the 22nd is evidence of Lukashenka's line in the sand.

Trump and the EU can give Lukashenka room to maneuver. At present, even Trump's positive comments about Ukraine yesterday helps. EU can reward Belarus' good behavior with small sanctions relief. But this should be reward not incentives. Also, wait and see if Belarus is again invited to Florida for talks.

In other news, Moldova's (re)unification with Romania, known as Moldova's "Plan B" should EU membership be blocked is back in the news. Both governments are supportive of this plan. A significant majority of Romanians support this reunification and while still in the minority, reunification amongst Moldovans is trending upwards. I believe the point is the Ukrainians had to reduce the explosive payload and replace it with fuel, resulting in a drone which barely stings when it pierces the side of a pressure vessel filled with flammable vapors.

The official response was, "Our anti-drone defense system destroyed a gazillion drones in the air, but debris from a little tiny drone landed on the refinery causing a minor fire which will be extinguished in six to ten working days and require six to ten months of repairs. Tis but a flesh wound."
