Hate crime stories are just one subset of that and not anything special in and of themselves. Stories about faked hate crimes by actors also fall into that category.

Initially, I thought he'd been randomly assaulted and being an actor had just added a bit of spice to the story to get it into the news and raise his profile. But the more details that came out, oh boy.

I really think that this incident may finally cause fake hate crime hoaxes to slow down.
I'm less concerned about whether or not they slow down and more concerned about whether or not people will put some better planning and effort into them. It's this lazy, half-assed attitude which millennials have towards life which is the major problem in our society. If someone wants to fake a hate crime for political gain, they should go ahead and do so and anyone who complains about it is just a freedom hater who wants to piss on the first amendment, so their opinion isn't worth too many shits. They need to make a point of not doing such a laughably poor job of it, though.

Well all that and the photo post beat up he looked about as badly beat up as Zimmerman did.
Perhaps the oddest thing about all of it, was hiring two black guys to play the role of MAGA hitmen, when you intended to get the beat down captured on video.
Not sure that's as odd as that the clerk who rang out two twin Nigerian weightlifter brothers who bought MAGA hats, ski masks, bleach, and a rope suitable for making a noose didn't find that strange enough to come forward. Even after.

It was obvious that this was a sketchy story from the very beginning. No one should have invested too much time with it, including trying to make it into a case that is representative of others, investigating it, blogging about it, tweeting, news media coverage, etc. Guy is looking for attention and he is getting it. 'Nuff said.

Yesterday one of the MSNBC shows had Al Sharpton on, to comment on Smollettapalooza. Ummm, irony, anyone? I kept daydreaming that the moderator would preface a question to Sharpton by faking a sneeze and putting a "BRAWLEY" into it. Alas, no sneeze.
