Forgery suspect killed by cop restricting his airway

George Floyd, man killed in Minneapolis police encounter, had started new life in Minnesota

AJC said:
At 6 feet, 6 inches, Floyd emerged as a star tight end for Jack Yates High School and played in the 1992 state championship game in the Houston Astrodome. Yates lost to Temple, 38-20. Donnell Cooper, one of Floyd's former classmates, said he remembered watching Floyd score touchdowns. Floyd towered over everyone and earned the nickname "gentle giant."
Not another one of those!
Floyd was charged in 2007 with armed robbery in a home invasion in Houston and in 2009 was sentenced to five years in prison as part of a plea deal, according to court documents.
Here we go again!
And yet, no revelation from you about the excessive force complaints on the nonwhite police officers. Hmmm.

Why is Derec always defending non-black people who kill black people?

Since the cause of death hasn't been released, we do not know that anybody killed Floyd.

Note also that if George Floyd was a white man, this would have been local Minnesota news, and would not have exploded internationally.

So it's the news's fault that you are constantly defending non-black people killing blacks?

This is likely true. The fact is that too many people of all demographics die in police custody, or during arrests or questioning.

If the deaths of unarmed black people at the hands of the police are acting like canaries in the coal mine, we should ALL heed the warning. Our lives should not be at risk because an officer is having a bad day, has a hangover, or a migraine or had a fight with their supervisor or spouse or whatever. Or because they cannot muster a little more patience and compassion and intelligence to help de-escalate a situation. And FFS, if officers feel threatened whenever they see a black person, they should not be officers and should not be armed.

People who err the side of defending the powerful and thinking up reasons the powerless were already guilty of something always think that they themselves will never be a target of abusive authority figures.

According to Joy Reid, Floyd was suspected of passing a fake twenty dollar bill.

Who do you think are really the "powerful" here? The four working class police officers or the mayor of Minneapolis who called for their arrest and prosecution without even the cause of death being known?

I would be against jumping to conclusions without investigation if the dead guy was white too.
But we rarely, if ever, have threads on cases like that because they don't become big news stories.

You mean those 4 officers with a sworn duty to protect who ignored a citizen's cries for help?

How about you post a link if you have one? In the meantime, what do you think about George Floyd turning out to be an armed robber?

A police officer with weapons and a badge holding down an unarmed citizen is the more powerful. There is no question about this. You have to engage in some serious mental tap dancing to imagine otherwise.

This just in...

After Peter Manfredonia's lawyer politely requested he turn himself in and talked about what a good guy he is, two days later Manfredonia leisurely took an uber to a truck stop. There he was arrested with a black duffle bag apparently filled with weapons. No one was killed or even injured during the arrest.

No, this is not a derail...

”Thank you for taking the time to write this. The phrase "if you can talk, you can breathe" has to be the most infuriating thing I hear when it's obviously wrong when your patient dies shortly after saying "I can't breathe." In these cases, they aren't patients but people in police custody.“

The words of a medic, apparently.

If you can talk, you can breathe (i.e. ventilate) because air movement is necessary for talking. But that doesn't mean that respiration is occurring at normal levels.

Did you suffer anoxia as a child? You speak by expelling air in the lungs.

Let me step on your neck and I'll show you how someone can choke you into unconsciousness while you beg for help.
