A day without stupid?

EpGLKTYXUAAjXDq

Thank you for reaffirming the average IQ of a typical Trumptard.

It’s kinda tacky when someone with a Ph.d in Ed insists you call them doctor. It might be more realistic to call her Nurse Biden. All lawyers have doctorates; but how silly if people referred to us as doctors. Anyway, it is very progressive to use titles like "Dr" because it reminds other people that they are less educated and haven't achieved as much as you. Maintaining status hierarchies has always been a central aim of progressivism, as noted by all egalitarian philosophers. That noting this triggers the Biden cultists here is amusing.

Which lawyer writes a dissertation for their JD? Maybe if they get an JSD, but not all lawyers no

Which medical doctor writes a dissertation?

I agree. They are not doctorates. They have adopted the term “doctor” from the academics. If lawyers want to do that they could but that wouldn’t confer a doctorate level status upon themselves. That we call physicians “doctors” has become so commonplace that we don’t question it. It has unfortunately become so commonplace that somehow it is acceptable to question using the term for an *actual* doctorate earner.

Well, hell, how about all the preachers who call themselves doctors? A lot of them don't even have a degree at all, much less wrote a dissertation.

They’re stupid, too.

"Too"? They're way stupider. She at least earned her degree for fuck's sake.

Also, related note: She's not a vapid mannequin First Lady. Right wing nutjobs must be so disappointed about that. They do love their blow up dolls and hate actual women.

The first person who popped into my mind was "Dr. Kent Hovind".

Let's compare his accomplishments with those of Dr. Jill Biden and see who is the tackier user of the term.
Tom

I can understand why someone who has gone through the usually arduous process of completing graduate studies and writing a dissertation would refer to themselves as "Dr". Given the common understanding of the title "DR' to mean a physician, even though I have a Ph.D., I don't use the term because I am not a physician nor do I care about titles.

I do think given the common understanding, the use of "Dr" for academics can be misleading. But in terms of pressing issues in the USA, I think this ranks behind whether blue or black ink should be used to endorse checks.

The fact someone felt the need to write an OP-ED piece means someone's life is pretty boring and easy. Why any reputable newspaper would print such a waste of time indicates a complete lack of more available and interesting OP-ED pieces.

Let’s not forget about Dr. Bill Cosby; also Ph.d in Ed.

I'm not sure how this is relevant.

Cosby is also far more accomplished than Hovind.

Perhaps you're implying that sexual indiscretions are a problem? Ironic, to say the least, from a Trump supporter.
Tom

Bill and Jill actually have Ed.D, not Ph.D. Whatever, if everyone with a Doctor degree in this or that insisted on being called doctor, “doctor” would be meaningless. Issac Asimov also had a Doctor degree (in Philosophy). But he wasn’t so narcissistic and worrying about his social status to demand the appellation “Doctor.”

It’s only misleading because the common understanding is incorrect.
That is true, but it is the widespread situation today.
So the proper thing to do is to correct the common misunderstanding instead of chastising an academic for properly using their honorific.

I have a doctorate but I don’t insist others call me “doctor”. However, in situations when an honorific is being used I much prefer Dr over Mr. I won’t correct someone who wouldn’t know (like checking in at a hotel) but I do want those who should know to use the correct honorific for me. I feel I earned it.

That you don’t understand seems par for the course. Who called Cosby “doctor” before his infamy?

Is this a response to my post about DR. Kent Hovind?

I don't remember anybody calling him "doctor".
Perhaps you just pay more attention to celebrities than I do.
