So considering you claim to care about academic discussion, will you stop making threads along the lines of "idiot does x"? Because that's, quite frankly, fairly non-academic, and more along the lines of what tabloids do to generate outrage porn. I'll stop making such threads to set an example.

Since this forum is supposed to be for academic discussion, should baseless conspiracy theories about election fraud be allowed? After all that's merely propaganda to push an agenda, and not particularly academic discussion. :consternation1:

But Derec's argument was that we shouldn't allow this to be a "democratic wankfest". Ok, fine. But if a Republican goes around spreading election fraud conspiracies, and other Republicans join in and support it, that too constitutes a "wankfest". So if we are to have "academic discussion", no wankfests.
 
There's absolutely no reason that examples of elected officials' stupidity in this thread can only be selected from Republican elected officials.

If Derec has examples of similarly stupid actions or comments by officials who are members of other political parties, he's welcome to post them.

That instead he complains about it being a "partisan wank-fest" strongly suggests that he fully understands that only one of the two major parties in US politics is likely to feature strongly in any display of abject, extreme and/or laughable stupidity, and that he doesn't like that fact.

Facts don't care whether anyone likes them.
 
In order for it to be a wankfests, does not all participants have to be willing to wank? If some in the room aren't wanking then it's not a wankfest. It just a few attempting to convince the rest in the room to wank but are met with academic refusals in disgust.

Right, it's like the gop admitting they are the party of white supremacists when they complain that 'cancelling' white supremacy is censoring republicans. They're admitting a lot more than they realize. ;)

A lot of right wingers vehemently deny being right wingers. I'd expect a lot of left wingers to also deny being left wingers, but for some reason, I don't see that. Maybe because I'm a "left winger"?

I think he has tried that (quotes from AOC and others) but they fell flat when context was provided for the excerpts he posts. Kinda like his attempts to assert "reverse racism" in order to cancel 400+ years of white Americans' oppression and genocide of ethnic minorities.

To be fair, anyone who doesn't full throatedly endorse the Republican "free enterprise" feudal system, is literally a communist, at least relatively speaking.

I think they're trying to 'get back' at me when they try to convince me my goals are Marxist. But we never get to the punchline. "I suppose you'd give free healthcare to hippies and draft dodgers?" Um, yeah. What part of 'for all' confuses you?
 
I like when I mention the same arguments were made ages ago against social security and free public schools & I get "The public schools suck & social security is being gutted". I grin and say "but the communists didn't take over".
