How should west respond to potential (likely) Russian invasion of Ukraine?

British launch of Trident II.
Minister of defense was on board :)

As an aside, why do Ruskies hate Britian so much? I continuous see russian threats of nuking England and hatred of the Brits. Why?

Because they hate us.

“You started it!”
“No, YOU started it!”
“Nope, you started it.”

<cue mushroom clouds>

They threaten Britain with nukes because Moscow isn't directly downwind from it. Notice they don't threaten to nuke the Estonia, Latvia and Lituania - not only are they upwind from Moscow, they're already part of Russia!

Why do you assume this? Most people just would like to stop the imperialism. Russia would regain friends if they would just stop bullying, attacking and stealing other people's land.
Will you ever stop doing the same thing and expect different result?
This might shock you, but the vast majority of people don't like war. They don't like to see people get displaced, their homes blown up, women raped, children stolen, good looted, international law flaunted.
Then go to White House and protest.

Russonazistan is becoming more and more isolated. The silver lining is that Vladimir Hitler doesn't have an escape door. His prison has some outdoor exercise space where the inmate spends time but that's it. If he ends his invasion he gets whacked by the other inmates. His only option is to continue his invasion and live life as a privileged prisoner.

He can fly around in an airplane but not too far from prison, kinda like having that ankle bracelet on all the time.

Photoshop.

I'm not seeing details on exactly what failed, all the video I find shows a normal looking launch and the reports said it failed because it was a test--which would imply it was something about the dummy payload and not the missile body.

Furthermore, I can't imagine a flight path like Moscow is pretending. The missile body will break up long before it reaches that kind of turn rate.

Damn man, you protest too much. The point is, British had 2 test launches in 12 years and both failed.

I have a question.

Is there a sizable (not just a radical fringe) number of ethnic Russians in the invaded territory that are fighting for the nation of Russia against the local ethnic Ukrainians or the Ukrainian army?

Have there been many ethnic reprisal killings or arson going on in the past two years among nominal civilians?

I think their may be many ethnic expulsions if Russia wins, but not in an official manner. But if Ukraine wins, then the ethnic Russians who sided with Russia better get the hell out of there.

How many ethnic Russians are fighting in Ukraine against the Ukranian army? It appears that there are about 500,000 Russian invaders. Not sure how many are "ethnic" Russian. They probably outnumber Ukraine 3 to 1 at least. Not sure where you are going here?

I mean Russian speakers who are Ukrainian citizens living in the eastern regions of Ukraine that are currently controlled by the Russian army. Not people who were citizens of Russia at the start of the conflict. Of course the Russian army will have some people who are not ethnic Russian.

If you don't like the idea of ethnic Russians or ethnic Ukrainians, then first language speakers of these will do for my point.

I have a question.
I suggest that it is more by way of a push poll.

A push poll is an interactive marketing technique, most commonly employed during political campaigning, in which a person or organization attempts to manipulate or alter prospective voters' views under the guise of conducting an opinion poll. Large numbers of voters are contacted with little effort made to collect and analyze their response data. Instead, the push poll is a form of telemarketing-based propaganda and rumor-mongering masquerading as an opinion poll. Push polls may rely on innuendo...

Though it could be just a matter of JAQing off.

The act of asking leading questions to influence your audience, then hiding behind the defense that they're "Just Asking Questions," even when the underlying assumptions are completely insane.

Well, according to you, TODAY and most recently you said Ukraine was always part of Russia. TOMORROW, what will it be? Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia were always part of Russia? Will it go as far as Romania, Bulgaria, and Poland were always part of Russia?
I already answered that question. It's Belarus and Ukraine, the rest are not in Russian interests, especially Romania. Romania have never been part of Russia.
And so far I get impression that Russia is not going to annex Ukraine.
But Donetsk and Lugansk are gone. Looks like repeat of Georgian War but better executed.
Well. Happy two year anniversary. This quote aged well. Any other predictions of imminent victory?

It aged great. You attacked Russia and now are losing.
Predictions? I predict Ukraine collapse and significant losses beyond Eastern Ukraine, including probably Kiev.
Putin, it seems, does not want Western Ukraine. Leaving it probably good idea, one has to leave a place for nazi scum to move to from Russian Ukraine.

I have this marked down as the winner of this year's Bagdad Bob quote contest.

Meanwhile, the first Abrams tank was finally caught and burned.
Patriot battery too. Apparently ukro-nazi are so desperate that they put they too close to the frontline.
then NASAMs, swedish super artillery piece as well.
Not looking good for NATO.

Eastern Ukraine have been fighting regime in Kiev since 2014 CIA coup.
They were absorbed into regular russian army in 2022.

I think you got a wrong impression about the causes of conflict.
Ethnic aspect of the conflict is not as big as people might think, especially comparing other conflicts.
Russian and ukrainians were fine with each other. Problem started when some parts of ukrainians decided to build ukrainian Ukraine. Naturally these people turned out to be followers of Bandera and Hitler. It took over 30 years to make nazism somewhat normal. Then ban on russian language. Dumbest idea ever, but they were dumb nazis.
But it's true that hardcore nazis in Ukraine are small minority. However they are supported by the west.
In the end Ukrainians will realize that they were used and they will hate you all in the west.

First language is a poor indicator of whether or not the person is pro-ukrainian/russian.
Most if not all of the prominent people in Kiev regime have russian as a first language. Elensky had to learn ukrainian after he won the election. Poroshenko did not know much of ukrainian, Yanukovych (ethnic ukrainian as well) does not speak it.
People who prefer ukrainian are usually uneducated villagers. But even they speak russian rather well, albeit with some accent. So everyone speak russian there, but significant fraction does not speak ukrainian.

And language itself is not well defined. There is a spectrum which goes from something which sounds suspiciously polish which I can hardly understand to variant called surzhik which close to russian I can understand. Nazis don't accept surzhik of course.
Russian, on the other hand, is ridiculously uniform. I would say 95% of people, all over the country, speak
identical language without any discernible differences in vocabulary/accent. I am excluding native speaker of other languages who may have accents. Remaining 5% are some middle of nowhere villages.
Foreigners studying russian always note that fact. Compare it to english even in GB itself, or german, french and spanish (in Spain)

Is that why so little of Eastern Ukraine behind the Russian line, and the front has gone virtually unchanged since this whole thing began?

Only Russians can view a stalled invasion as inevitable victory. But congrats on getting an Abrams tank. Too bad it was burned. Could have used it instead of those drones like a real military would.
