Your Silence is Deafening

Do you agree or disagree with Nancy Mace? I'm not sure what the point being made here is.
I won’t speak for Ziprhead, but why di you think Ms Mace feels the need to opine about consensual gangbangs?
I don't know. As I said, I don't understand what the point of the comment is.
I think one possible explanation is that there is no point to Ms Mace’s remark. Another is that in her attempt to insinuate that there was no rape in the incident in Cornell makes her look like an ass.

Of course, I am just guessing. But perhaos if you contemplate an answer to my query about why Ms Mace’s felt the need to opine about consensual gangbangs, you may come to a better understanding.

Particularly since a lot of these spoiled brats are under the impression that it's okay, it's a college thing; and because (in some cases) an over exposure to violent porn makes these dunces believe that women actually love to be roughed up, and that no doesn't really mean no.
That isn't cultural? Also, being spoiled can add to a sense of entitlement, but the sense of male entitlement to women is hardly a "spoiled brat" thing.
I don't believe society, culture, or education are the chief issues, though they are most certainly factors. The main problem is testosterone, and the simple, stupid, aggressive nature of a good number of men.
I don't believe this is accurate. To me, it can be a mitigating circumstance (certainly not an excuse or justification) for the individual, in the moment. Testosterone didn't make them put out a call on social media. Testosterone didn't have them spreading rumors. It'll be labeled "boys being boys" and that is the cultural part of it.
I certainly did not mean to imply that testosterone gives these knuckle-draggers an "excuse or a justification"! I spoke in terms of utter contempt for these guys, and I even said at the outset of that post that we shouldn't be giving them any kind of excuse at all, least of all by blaming culture, society, schooling, or their daddies who never taught them about consent. They are 100% responsible for their actions. And I hope they pay dearly.

I admit my post was poorly written and I can see how it could be taken. I should have thought more about it before posting. Apologies!

I guess I didn’t quite understand the term: I thought gang bangs were not consensual.

Also did not watch the Nancy Mace thing because who would???
Look up "gangbang". It has both consensual and non-consensual contexts. On the consensual side, it is a common thing on porn sites (or so I hear 😬) done by mainstream porn stars in staged settings. The women (or men) are not being raped. It also happens in cat houses, and with polyamorous couples. In the non-consensual context, it refers to a person who is is forced into sex (i.e. raped) with multiple people.

In the Cornell case, Jane Doe herself refers to what happened that night as a "gangbang", and appears (initially, anyway) to consider it consensual, and in fact seems more concerned about the rumors spreading about it, than any trauma from the event itself:

Cornell Jane Doe & Frat Bro Texted About 'Gang Bang' Rumors ... Let's Find the Leaker!!!

She seems to have changed her tune about it being consensual once it spread around campus and Chi Phi withdrew their invitation to their Halloween party. But as I said earlier, this whole thing is a massive clusterfuck. Its going to take some time to unravel.

Gang bangs are just when you have a bunch of people who all have sex with or perform some group sexual act on a specific individual.

It is very possible for this to happen consensually, and it is also very possible for people to do it the other way.

Generally, one is called "gangbang" and the other is called "gangrape".

Oftentimes, if one is to believe reports, these things start out with a lean towards -bang and end up going sideways, which is why gangbangs are generally not a good idea. The situation that comes up in my mind as the most likely scenario is that the person servicing the line gets tired before the people waiting in line and people still insist on taking a turn.

Personally, I think that the trouble of coordinating, vetting, and otherwise making sure a gangbang doesn't go wrong is so much work that by the time a gangbang is happening, it's just awkward mechanics rather than the originally intended messy raucous fun.

Interesting because the text threads I read do not imply consent at all. Quite the opposite.

Yes, she said later it was not consensual. She also said in a text, "I never lie". :confused2: Which is why I call it clusterfuck, and not to jump to conclusions. Yet that doesn't stop the pitchfork and torches crowd.

You're living in an imaginary world unconnected to reality. There is no such crowd. Your "pitchforks and torches" are metaphors. The event itself, the response from the school, and the response from the legal system are not metaphors. Those are very real. Who the fuck cares about the scenario of mob justice your fevered imagination has produced, when there are real matters to consider? If anyone actually brandishes a pitchfork, or in any other meaningfully way tries to circumvent the justice system with a pointy object, you might have a point. But all people want is a trial. Not vigilante justice. Not a riot. The diametric opposite of mob justice, in fact. They want a society in which accusations of a crime are taken seriously, investigated, and acted on as needed.

Explain to me how you can obtain consent from someone full of booze and ketamine. Are you going to defend Bill Cosby next?

Agreeing to sex with two people is not the same as agreeing to take on all comers. She tried to protest but was far too intoxicated to effectively defend herself.

NY state law seems to be behind the times as it does not see extreme intoxication as being unable to give consent t as is the case in most states.

You can't. But in Bill Cosby's case the substance abuse itself was done without consent and that makes what he did predatory and completely different. Do you think the law should also forbid people from sex if someone is clearly under the influence of alcohol or other substances? That sounds excessive to me but I have a feeling that most people on this board would favor that kind of law.

If you told people they could not have sex after drinking that would surely put nearly all the bars out of business in short order.

"I didn't drug her, Your Honor. I just took advantage of the situation"

There is a huge fucking difference between drinking at a bar and being completely paralytic. Wish I could say I'm surprised that I had to point that out to you, but unfortunately I'm not.

Who do you think I am, Superman? Are you Superman? Because - If you told people they could not have sex after drinking, they’d punch you in the nose.

Like all the conservatives in this thread, he wants us to be more concerned about a "scary" hypothetical he insists liberals want (though he cannot of course demonstrate that anyone has argued for such a law) than about the real, tangible, and immediate harm faced eveyr year by the women of this country.
