Another Fucking Mass Shooting At US School

The thing is the shooters and the like are almost always people who didn't fit in.
Aha. So The Answer is simple; people should be required to fit in. If they don’t fit in, their behavior patterns must be altered appropriately to MAKE them fit in, and if that doesn’t work we should have the option to give them productive positions in government industrial projects like mining or being experimental medical subjects.
Kim Jong Un-iversity can teach modern way of kind discipline.
We could be trading our outcasts to Uncle Vlad, and he could send them to Ukraine and everyone happy.

Why would you exclude gang shootings?
I wouldn’t.
The Beave brought up some stat about black gangs being responsible for lots of murders and I merely observed that if true, and you’re not a gangster, it would further lower the threat level of black people murdering you.
I’m perfectly happy to include the black gangsters, @Tigers! I’m no bigot.
But the stat remains: in the Great Country of America, a black person is less likely to murder you on average, than is any random person.
Not that you’d necessarily notice, especially if you’ve only been murdered once or twice.
I was not saying you would exclude. More thinking out loud.
The more information available the better.

So, Tumbler Ridge tragedy... was incited and supported by another person online. They have been arrested. The person lives in Washington.
article said:
The criminal complaint suggests Van Rootselaar started planning the attack in or before August 2025, and spoke about her plans with Bryant almost daily.

About six months prior to the mass shooting, Van Rootselaar told Bryant she had stolen guns and ammunition from her family's gun safe and was hiding them in preparation, the court document says.

Bryant and Van Rootselaar also discussed livestreaming the killings, and did a test run on Jan. 4, about a month before the shootings happened, the criminal complaint says.

At today's news conference, acting U.S. attorney Neil Floyd said there was an attempt to livestream the shooting on Twitch but it was shut down after about 20 seconds.
Reports indicate that the livestream was important because it was supposed to get the word out of the job. Psychopaths the two of them.

Charlton Heston: Any gun in the hands of a bad man is a bad thing. Any gun in the hands of a decent person is no threat to anybody — except bad people.

Me: Follow-up... about that gun in the hands of a bad man being a bad thing...

Is it a mass shooting? 3 children and 1 teacher dead, 1 child and 1 teacher hurt. Standards for tragedies at US schools are getting complicated.

An armed outside person followed into the school and shot/killed the shooter. A preferable, if not potentially risky ending.

The problem with gun violence is the easy, almost unfettered access to firearms in general but specifically firearms with large capacity magazines abd the. Capacity to fire very quickly.
We have a total of one shooting where magazine capacity was relevant. And that guy had stuff far more illegal than a big magazine.

Most shooters have plenty of time to reload, capacity is not relevant.

How did he get his gun(s)?
That was rhetorical, right?
Not really. He had a previous conviction. So, either he got the gun(s) illegally, or there was an oversight from the state.

One thing is certain: that firearm, no matter how many hands it passed through, ultimately traces back to a legal point of origin.

Edit: Let’s stop pussyfooting around this. As long as firearms are being manufactured and remain legal, there’s no realistic way to keep them entirely out of criminal hands. If you’re comfortable with them being legal, then you’re also accepting the reality that some will end up in the wrong hands. The two go hand in hand.
And you're going to take them from law enforcement, also?

If not, they'll still get into criminal hands.

And we can't keep out drugs, you think we can keep out guns?

And it's reached the point that CNC machines can do much of making a gun. Not competitive with a factory but I'm sure you have heard of the ghost guns that are about. It's not the printed stuff that matters--those are single shot, unreliable and hazardous for the user. But the CNC-manufactured stuff is just as good as what the factory makes.

And even if you completely cut off the supply there are so many out there that the problem won't go away.

You’re arguing against a position I didn’t take, again, which is both predictable and boring. I never said anything about taking guns away. What I said is simple: if firearms are legal and widely available, some will inevitably end up in criminal hands. That’s just reality. If you support guns remaining legal, then you’re accepting the tradeoff that comes with it.

You can argue that the tradeoff is worth it, but pretending the downside isn’t directly tied to availability is a mental disorder. Gun rights supporters like myself acting surprised or outraged every time someone who shouldn’t have a gun ends up with one doesn’t make sense to me.

And to be clear, it’s not like the law is soft on this. There are already serious penalties for illegal possession at both the federal and state level. The Gun Control Act of 1968 makes it a felony for prohibited individuals to possess firearms, with penalties that can mean years behind bars.

However enforcement, predictably mind you, isn’t always consistent. Charges get reduced, sentences end up lighter than expected, and outcomes vary. I've read the teeth gnashing and bitching repeatedly on this forum. But that still reinforces my point. Even with laws on the books, the system doesn’t perfectly stop access or guarantee uniform consequences.

Acting surprised when the government operates inefficiently doesn’t make much sense to me either.

CNC talk doesn’t change anything either, if anything, it reinforces the point that access can’t be perfectly controlled, which is exactly why the tradeoffs matter.

I’m tired of the performative outrage and gaslighting from gun rights advocates. If you support widespread gun ownership, own the tradeoffs and argue for it honestly.
You're missing my point.

The guns are out there. Far more than the criminals will use up within the timeframe before it becomes easy for them to make them.

Thus the only way to disarm them is seize the guns that are in private hands. And that probably won't work.

To think that restricting sales will disarm the criminals is very much wishful thinking.

If capacity is not relevant, then laws limiting capacity shouldn’t be an issue.

This whole "It's never going to work even though we've never tried it", is getting pretty tiresome.

Since sex-change surgeries are not done in schools you are not really comparing apples to apples.
Apparently you are unaware that the righties in the US tell people the kids go to school as a boy and come back from school as a girl.
I was out of town visiting my mother last weekend and had lunch with a relative who is in the right. She basked me about boys playing in girls sports and unforgivably it wasn’t until after the trip that I really came up with the best responses. I am not used to talking to people face to face on these issues. Ultimately though I am far more worried that my daughter will be shot at school than she will compete against a boy in her sport. And the statistics back that up. I wish I had told her that I thought it was a fabricated issue, like voter fraud. I did tell her I have never seen it come up In my kids’ schools. And I live in the SF Bay Area.

My go to opinion is I don't give a fuck about "men being in women's sports", because like everyone else, I don't give a flying fuck about women's sports.

Because if we did give a fuck about women's sports we'd be discussing the huge pay discrepancy, the lack of media coverage, the obscenely high rates of abuse and how prevalent doping is in the international community (looking at you Chinese Women's Swimming team) before we get outraged over a trans woman in Amsterdam coming fourth in a University competition or whatever the fuck I'm supposed to be outraged about.

If anyone truly gave a fuck we'd have never heard of Riley Gaines or Lia Thomas.

So maybe people---and by people, I mean the people who count, you know: men should start caring out women's sports,, about women's opportunities, about sexual assault and harassment and health care and birth control and abortion.

And I do want to apologize for having a go at you. You are of course, absolutely correct: If people (I mean more or enough people) cared enough, there would be a lot more talk and action re: pay discrepancy, lack of media coverage, abuse, opportunities for girls in K-12 in sports and at university we could legit say that we cared.

Obviously you do care.
