Can the study of human evolution provide answers to why people believe in God?

Thank you for the source of your idea. However, you did not address my questions. Care to answer them?

Can the study of human evolution provide answers to why people believe in God?

Analogy is not causation. You present some similarities, perhaps even enough to form a hypothesis. What would that hypothesis be? What would the null hypothesis be? How would you design an experiment, or forensic research, to support your hypothesis?

    Rationalizing faith.

In most dictionaries, the word "faith" has two definitions. One is theistic and the other is secular. Please don't confuse the two.

    Tu quoque---effective debating strategy?

I think adding some humor to the exchange is helpful. For example: Mr. I'm Right and You're Not: You are immoral because you believe in abortion, which is the killing of innocent babies. Me: Well then, I suppose I would have keen insight into similar immoral behaviors. Would you like to...

The Case For Christ - A defence of Lee Strobel's 1998 apologetic book

I read Strobel's book. I also read The Case Against The Case For Christ: A New Testament Scholar Refutes the Reverend Lee Strobel by Robert M. Price. Price eviscerates Stobel's claims and arguments. It's that simple.

    Kent Hovind: Broccoli man

Not until these occur first: 1) A hypothesis of intelligent design is written which comports with standard scientific protocols and procedures, including testing regimens, data collection, a null hypothesis and clear falsifiability indicators. 2) The hypothesis is actually tested and results...

Faith is believing something that you know isnt true.

Using the term "faith" in this context, which is already a loaded/toxic word, is misplaced. A better term is "lying", either to yourself or to others.

    "I believe in God . . .

Your response increases the probability that the statement of Mr. Delia (above in italics) is true.

    "I believe in God . . .

As former poster Wayne Delia would say: "Just not in anyway you can demonstrate."

    Can Christians love nature?

Can Christians love nature? I think it depends on the particular Christian God Virus that infects them. Here in the USA, there are several strains of the virus that convince believers to have no respect for nature, the environment or other humans who do not demonstrate they are similarly infected.

    Evolution and Morality

I suspect both (i) genetic evolution and (ii) memetic evolution are strong influences on the moral, immoral and/or amoral behaviors of members of any given human population.

    What the fuck Ferguson?

This one doesn't understand the difference between the criminal justice system and the civil justice system. He's a funny guy.

What's in a creation story -- disturbance, secretion, building, poofing

Your wishful thinking is predictable and boring.

    Morality Is Often Harmful

This one appears quite angry, but I'm not sure why. I doubt he/she truly understands his/her anger either. The passive-agressiveness and projection might be a clue.

    Morality Is Often Harmful

It's not a perfect fit, but you are describing the Brazen (or Brass) Rule, or perhaps the Iron Rule, from Carl Sagan's compilation: "Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Silver Rule: Do not do unto others what you would not have them do unto you. Brazen (Brass)...

The importance of understanding for belief

This seems rather ritualistic and pathetic. No curiosity, no skepticism, no exploration, no rationality. Just absorb and believe the dogma. It reeks of cowardice, laziness and feigned self-importance. Were you indoctrinated into this curious world view?
  17. S

Why is it so important for atheists that God does not exist?

People who instill religious indoctrination and/or engage in religious peer pressure work hand in hand.

    Syed's Mega-Thread

I think this thread would be more enjoyable if all let it die and let it fall down the listings for a few years, say to page 76. The someone can necro it for laughs.
