2020 Election Results

Giuliani representing Trump in Pennsylvania election case - CNNPolitics
Rudy Giuliani, representing President Donald Trump's campaign, delivered a sweeping broadside against mail-in voting Tuesday in a federal courtroom as part of the campaign's long shot case to block Pennsylvania from certifying votes.

Giuliani argued in a courtroom in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, that the Trump campaign has been blocked from observing ballot processing in key cities and saying Democrats could have conspired to commit election fraud by counting absentee votes -- both assertions others judges have rejected repeatedly in court as unfounded or wrong.

With Giuliani's entrance in court, the hearing may be the grand finale of the Trump campaign's flailing effort in court to stop the formalization of President-elect Joe Biden's win.

...
Trump and his backers have faced ridicule from the legal community for bringing meritless lawsuits to challenge the election and spread disinformation to undermine Biden's win, and legal experts have repeatedly said the cases won't give Trump a second term in office.

Since the election, judges in multiple states have quickly rejected the Trump campaign's and his supporters' suspicions of voting fraud, because even in-court witnesses have shown no reason to believe there's widespread fraud.
What a bunch of losers.

The GA recount should be finished by tomorrow, as I write this. GA's vote certification deadline is Friday. PA's is next Monday.

Meanwhile, GOP just tried to steal Michigan! No, not hyperbole. A state Biden won by a few percent.

article said:
A bipartisan panel in Michigan's largest county unanimously certified its presidential results on Tuesday night, a stunning reversal hours after Republicans had temporarily blocked certification based on dubious claims of voting irregularities in Detroit.

The Wayne County Board of Canvassers initially deadlocked 2-2 on whether to certify the results, with two Democrats voting to certify and two Republicans voting against it, citing concerns of examples where Detroit precincts found discrepancies during their post-election review process. That vote was immediately condemned by Democratic officials and nonpartisan experts, who said the election in Detroit had been conducted cleanly.

...

The initial vote against certification drew the attention of the President, who posted a series of tweets praising the GOP members of the canvassing board for "having courage." He also spread false claims about massive voter fraud and said officials in the state should "flip Michigan back to TRUMP."
Is there much doubt that the GOP will try again in the Legislature?

Things going well in Georgia.

Three nice looking nails for burial of Trump presidency.

Maybe that dipshit at the GSA will sign the damn thing and let the transition go forward.

Virginia delays statewide certification of election results, citing Richmond office's COVID outbreak | Govt-and-politics | richmond.com
The State Board of Elections on Monday delayed certification of the state’s election results until later this week, giving additional time to the Richmond voter registrar’s office, which is dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak.

State elections officials said they had local certifications in hand from Virginia’s other 132 cities and counties and they expect to certify the state results later this week.
So it looks like Virginia's results are on the way.

How long can Trump keep disputing the election results? - Vox
President Donald Trump’s effort to dispute Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 election is well into its second week, with no end yet in sight.

Despite Trump’s failure to produce any evidence of widespread voter fraud and a floundering legal effort so far, the president’s public rhetoric has remained defiant. “Those responsible for the safeguarding of our Constitution cannot allow the Fake results of the 2020 Mail-In Election to stand,” Trump tweeted Sunday night (earning a warning label for misinformation from Twitter). “The World is watching!” Most leading Republicans have not yet acknowledged Trump’s defeat either.
Then mention of upcoming certification deadlines: GA Fri Nov 20, MI PA Mon Nov 23, NV Tue Nov 24, AZ Mon Nov 30, WI Tue Dec 1.

The article noted "Trump can ask for a recount in Wisconsin, but he’d have to fork over the hefty sum of $7.9 million to do so; he has to decide on it by this Wednesday."

States could announce their certifications earlier than their deadlines.

Vote certification deadlines in states facing legal challenges from Trump, GOP - The Washington Post

How election results get certified | MIT Technology Review
Even though the winner of an American election usually gets announced soon after the vote happens, the result is never actually official on Election Day. It’s not even official once the media makes their result projections, as happened last week. Instead, election results actually become real when state and local election authorities make sure that every valid vote was counted and formally certify them.

While President Donald Trump continues to dispute the election—he’s launched over a dozen legal efforts to prove fraud, challenge counts, and delay certification—every lawsuit has effectively failed so far.

Election officials appointed by the Trump administration say the president’s claims are dangerous and lack any credibility. Every state says there is no evidence of fraud, and federal and local election officials of both parties released a joint statement to say exactly that. As it has been since he started making accusations years ago, the president’s claims about election fraud are utterly empty.
Then the details of how it is done.

After the state deadlines, the Federal deadline comes up: Tue Dec 8. The Electoral College casts its votes on Mon Dec 14. The Vice President counts the votes before Congress on Wed Jan 6. Inauguration is on Wed Jan 20.

More on the Wayne County drama llama.

Michigan Republicans Backtrack After Refusing to Certify Election Results - The New York Times
Mark Brewer, an election law expert and a former chairman of the Michigan Democratic Party, noted that Ms. Palmer’s motion would have blocked certification for Detroit, where Black residents make up 78 percent of the population, and certified the results for communities like Livonia, where the Black population is 4.4 percent.

“Monica Palmer sat there and said she’s willing to approve the results of the lily-white city of Livonia, which had the second-highest number of out-of-balance precincts, but she won’t certify the city of Detroit,” Mr. Brewer said. “There is no reason to single out the city of Detroit for this racist treatment.”

Board in key Michigan county fails, then agrees, to certify vote totals by deadline - The Washington Post
After the vote, there was an overwhelming response at the meeting — and beyond. The two Republicans on the panel found themselves under verbal assault, accused of racism, violating their public obligations and attempting to hijack what even GOP leaders in Lansing said were the clear results of the election.

The excoriation of the Republican members came from people at the meeting, but also from the governor, the Michigan House minority leader and election experts around the country.

In reversal, GOP officials in key Michigan county certify ballot count after striking a compromise with Democrats - The Washington Post
“If the state board follows suit, the Republican state legislator will select the electors. Huge win for @realDonaldTrump,” Trump campaign legal adviser Jenna Ellis tweeted Tuesday night after the initial Wayne County deadlock.

But experts said such a move would have been on shaky legal ground, and key GOP lawmakers have acknowledged Biden’s win and said they do not plan to attempt to intervene.

...
Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson said in an interview on CNN that “it appears that the truth won in this scenario.”

“The evidence is clear — there were no irregularities, there was no evidence of widespread fraud, and in fact there were simply minor clerical errors,” she said, adding: “So I think they did the right thing, they performed their duty, and they certified the election for the voters in Wayne County.”

On Fox News late Tuesday, Ellis decried the board’s change of heart as “mob rule.”
Mob rule? Boo hoo hoo hoo hoo. :p

But I congratulate the Michigan state legislators for refusing to appoint their own slate of electors. Like Pennsylvania's ones refusing to do so. Good that they are refusing to open up that can of worms.

I caught an interview on Youtube of Dershowitz on Newsmax, talking about how Trump is trying delay tactics to keep Biden from reaching 270 votes in the electoral college to send it to the states in Congress... as if it were a completely normal path to electoral victory in the United States.

This is very much a disturbing set of actions. They ultimately changed their mind, but there really is no basis for having done both things. You either think the result is wrong or you tried to steal the election. There is no middle ground here.

The point of mentioning the specific school was to point out the degree of racial integration.
That said, I have changed my MO since after the election. The GOP deserves no quarter. So, IF this was an attempt to dox a legislator then my response is, "He didn't explicitly, clearly, or entirely unambiguously break any law beyond any conceivable doubt from any person, reasonable or otherwise, therefore what he did is perfectly acceptable, if not heroic". Morality has no place in the political response to the GOP terrorist organization's actions or statements.
Fuck their feelings.

Trump to partially recount in Wisconsin, just the counties of Milwaukee and Dane.

They allege massive fraud there... in the media. In the Courtroom, nadda.

It is difficult to know for certain, but this feels like a delay tactic to try and pull off what they tried in Wayne County, Michigan. Of course, seeing Trump's lawyers can't demonstrate a single case of voter fraud or election fraud, the chances of success hang on just how evil GOP reps want to be in Wisconsin.

It looks as if the Georgia recount will be finished today and while Trump did gain some votes, Biden still leads by about 13K. I'm hoping that all of the infighting among Georgia's Republicans might help the two Dem candidates. I'm not crazy about voting for a Baptist minister who has no political experience, but I'd vote for anyone if it gives us a chance of getting rid of the Republican control of the Senate. Warnock has some baggage, and while it's not anything that would bother most Democrats, his opponents are using every tiny thing
he's ever done that looks suspicious in their nasty campaign ads.

For example, his arrest for obstruction of justice when he tried to keep the police from investigating a possible child abuse claim. The charges were later dropped as he was simply trying to be there for the teens that were being investigated, out of fear that they would be mistreated by the police. While he was later praised for what he did, the Republicans are trying to paint him as a child abuser.

Then there's his support of two controversial preachers, including the one that Obama was attacked for supporting. One of them said that white Christians were from Satan, or something dumb like that. Regardless, these things are being used to attack Warnock. I have no idea how effective these attack ads will be. Warnock has a new ad that attacks his opponent for selling a couple of million dollars of her stocks, immediately after learning about COVID. It's going to be a nasty race.

Ossoff is being painted as an extreme socialist. So far, Ossoff's ads have been positive. I haven't seen him attack his opponent yet. I'm not optimistic that either of these Dems will win, but maybe Stacey Abrams organization will be able to motivate lots of normally unreliable voters to vote on Jan. 5th. But, I'm off topic. Our run off election has happened yet.

Thank you for the update! We don't get much Georgia news out here, even though the outcome of your runoff is important to all of us.
