To sell that criticism of Trump is mania. This seems to be the construction of Trump related misdirection. Make statement A, true or false or irrelevant, to provide normalization cover for statement B. And this works.

Gawd, they sound like web board trolls now. But it works in normalizing lies, like Obama spied on Trump's campaign or criticism of Trump is a mental disease.

I watch my coworkers do something like this. I think the idea is to find one thing wrong, then you can dismiss tge entire argument.
A couple years back, someone who was stopped at customs on some bullshit excuse posted a long and articulate rant about fascist laws, xenophobia, and the eventual erosion of the very freedoms America cherished.
When my manager read that he said, 'It's not a law. She was stopped by an executive order.' Thus, everything she said could be disregarded.

Now THIS is a ridiculously overblown nothing burger. Seriously, we have better things to focus on (and according to Snopes, most of the hyperbole is flat out wrong anyway).

Not sure if that's true. Today's political climate is fractured, and people's interests stove-piped. More and more voices heard are from single-issue voters. They don't care about bribery, spying, emoluments, waste, the whole litany of Trump's sins and crimes, as long as he doesn't cross their personal tripwire.
There's joking above about this being a weird "final straw" against the Citrus Doucheburger, but these days we cannot be sure this isn't someone's ONLY straw.
Maybe some post office executive lost his virginity under a cherry tree, or has a deep fetish for Jackie, and THIS issue is the one that turns him around on Dickless' changes.
